I hope he succeeds but that doesn't mean it isn't right for both sides to part ways.
Yea I'd root for him to win elsewhere. I like him as a person, but it's just not working here.

Anyways, trade him for whatever package we can get that involves picks. Expecting a pick like what the Celtics got from BK is stupid - expect mid / late first round pick(s) + seconds + scrubs, heavily protected picks, or picks that we won't see for years.
Yea basically you just field offers, take the best one (assuming it's remotely reasonable), tank, and move on.
If he's only willing to be traded to Cleveland or the Clippers, don't think the offers will amount to very much.

Phil is in charge of every single player & contract on this team. Him going after Rose, Noah & Lee then trading Melo wouldn't make a lick of sense.
But Phil has a method to his senile madness so we'll see what the truth is.
Phil gave it a last ditch effort to see if a Melo led team could do anything. Former MVP, former DPOY, second best sophmore ROY runner up, and a great role player in Lee. I think if you put that team around most of the top 10 players, you're gonna get a solid team. It's more talent than most other teams overall.
We're at the halfway point, and it didn't work.
Again Sark you're being black & white and you know that.
Buzz words like former MVP/DPOY mean absolutely nothing when clearly they have declined.
Lee is a role player, that is it.
Role players are a dime a dozen.
Me & you don't know what Phil's plans are so stop doing this thing where you make an assumption and present it as a fact. You've been doing it a long time and it's bullsh*t. Stop.
Phil has scouts and people that he confines in and a good guess is he they told him their capabilities on the floor and what they're not capable of doing anymore. Especially Rose with his past injuries. The thought process for a while has been that Phil has wanted to "rebuild" while fighting for the playoffs and it doesn't seem like anything has changed. Just more trade rumors.
I don't believe he'll blow it up, in fact he might add on to the roster because he has made it clear he wants the playoffs.

The Celtics makes too much sense, too bad Melo probably wouldn't accept a trade there.
He'd fit them well and be exactly what they need to get over the hump and become contenders.

It still wouldn't make sense because you're becoming wishy-washy on your goals.
In less than a season after giving out these contracts and making it known you want to make the playoffs you decide to just blow it up?
Who is he, George Steinbrenner?
Other than Noah, he really didn't spend long term, and I don't think he brought Noah in primarily for his on court production anyway.
Rose is a one year deal, Lee is a role player signing, and easily movable. The notion that Phil went "all-in" really isn't true.
I didn't say long term nor did I say all in, I said he wanted the playoffs this season.
That's a factual statement from him.
You can still go for the playoffs while having deals that aren't that long.

Melo is the exact opposite of what they need. They dont need inefficient scoring, lazy defense, and a player that would become the oldest on the team.

Yea, I don't know why people think Melo and Boston are a match. They don't want him, and certainly aren't giving up Brooklyn's pick up for the privilege of not being able to pursue Butler or Heyward.

That was the goal going in the season sure but **** happens, it's sports. Things change at a blink of an eye. Team has lost 13 of the last 17 games, some in embarrassing fashion to bad teams. Phil has to see at this and adjust.

You are being black and white with your analysis of him being black and white.
He knew Melo wanted to compete and not rebuild. He tried and failed and now he has Rosen do his dirty work. He can easily trade Lee somewhere. Rose he can outright cut if No one wants him. Noah is here for the long haul most likely. LFT? UGH.

I'm making an allude to "giving out these contracts". He had to spend the money, but other than Noah, what contracts did he give out that indicate anything really long term?
Of course Phil wanted to make the playoffs, he thought his starters led by Melo could do such, especially in a poor EC. The team will still be looking for a new pg next year, so he isn't that tied into this group.
The team has 5 rookies too, so clearly there was balance. Phil is playing both sides of the fence

Re: And here it comes... Melo leaving?
The party's over. We had some fun times and we had some of the worst times in team history.
Time for both parties to move on from each other. He's got value. Now is the time to unload. Although him saying he has shoulder issues is troubling if you're trying to make a trade,
I would be willing to bet that the internal discussion and plan was to give him half the season. If they didn't see turnaround, they'd pull the plug and build around KP. Right now we're just stunting his development.
Wouldn't be shocked to see a turnaround with him gone.

No disrespect to Melo, but if anyone is a perfect match, it's Hayward, already has the two way game and is young. Butler would fit nice as well, but I don't really see that one happening.
Boston has been rumored to wanting a star, but they have that now in IT and Horford has star appeal, they don't need the star factor any longer.
They just need someone to compliment what they do.

Re: And here it comes... Melo leaving?
I really feel bad for the Melo apologists. The guy is a great talent...but what has he won...one NCAA tournament, and 3 gold medals with a HOF cast around him each time. He's never won anything in the NBA...might at the end of this career like Bob McAdoo, but not here. Has to go.....sorry and I mean that.
