I guess Denver doesn't consider themselves contenders? Why would they be trying to move their 2nd best player?

Not sure. He's a free agent this summer, though. Maybe they don't want to invest big money.

Just listened to a Vertical Facebook live with Woj & Mannix. Woj says Wiz are not interested in sending out a 1st for a rental. They are just not interested. Lou was appealing b/c he was signed for next year.

I would trade for DWill. I wonder if Mavs consider moving him at first place and what is the real costs.

So common sense would tell you that they would look to make a move for Barton now, but we know ERNIEs bread and butter isn't common sense

It's tempting. Getting out of 67 million of dreck over the next 3 seasons would be quite tempting. Certainly that is worth a 1st pick alone, I think even PIF would go along with that. It's the 2nd one that's kind of hard to wrap my thoughts around. ....

Yes & Yes -- & Yes again if it'd help.

PIf since Lou got sold to the highest bidder do you call the lakers tomorrow after noon and say hey, we know we were not willing to go big on lou. but how about we do this. Clarkson/Zubac/nance, for nicholson/smith/and burke and 2017 first and second.

Clarkson is signed for big $ through June '20. He's way overpaid -- but even if he weren't, we just can't add that kind of $$ to our salary load.

The rest of the trade is awfully tempting -- Zubac is younger than lots of guys in the upcoming draft, and he's signed for a few years at only $1m+. You could argue that it's like picking Swanigan, i.e. the equivalent of a R1 pick. Zubac is exactly 1 month older than Swanigan. In that case, leaving out Clarkson, it's Nicholson, Smith, Burke & a 2017 R2 for Nance. Losing the bad contracts alone makes that deal worth it.

But it's too big a trade for Ernie to make right now -- how quickly does Nance or Zubac pick up Smith's role? Who takes Burke's (admittedly ineffective) minutes?

Again, though, w/o Clarkson I'd jump on it -- & all the more if we kept that R2 pick (with a plan to use it!).

I'll be interested in what Dat & nate think of it (& others of course...).

I mean moving smith and nicholson. we are only a couple mill over what we were before and yes he is over paid but he would do really well on our bench and he would probably play 25 30 minutes a night off the bench with sato gett the rest of the PG SG minutes. It would greatly improve our bench a ton. and Nance could totally step into that back up big spot right away and if we can move mahinmi some how! zubac is there and he might even beat out mahinmi any way. But I think its worth it and if im going to go into the tax I'm ok doing it for 2 34 year old good players and a 19 year old kid who can play.

they are so deep on the wing and at SG they can loose chandler or gallo get a big return and not loose much. I bet they would rather loose gallo cuz of his injury history.

I really think the buy out market is where we (Can) make a real addition. There are very few teams that can offer what we can for a vet player:
1) Good team that will go to the 2nd round - Players want to play for good teams, no explanation needed
2) Playing time - None of these players will be starters for play off teams, so they need to go to a team that has a weak bench..
3) Team fit - We have a players coach and a PG that gets everyone involved and makes them better.

If you list the top 4 teams in each conference (2nd round teams), Im not sure you find one with the glarying hole(s) on the bench where a vet could fit right in, especially at Guard.

Jazz, Rockets, Spurs, Warriors, Celtics, and Raptors are deep there... So its really us, the Cavs, and Clippers

Mostly true, but thats penny wise and dollar foolish. Their agent is going to send them where they can play and be surrounded be teammates conducive to their skill set. Their money will be made in the summer, not in February

any of these guys could blow out a knee or ankle or tendon tomorrow.
If Evans get's bought out, hes getting about a 4-5 million check from the kings. We can offer then about 2.9 or maybe a little more I think. every one else can offer the min for the rest of the season, which is more along the lines of 900000 K ish. 2 million bucks is A lot of money to turn down, especially when you are talking about deciding between playing with two really good teams. Most guys are taking the money, when it comes to two really good teams.

I don't think he's on the market anymore. After the rumors came out in December he let management know he had no interest in leaving Denver. Since then I've consistently seen Gallinari & Chandler come up in trade rumors and nothing about Barton.

Yeah, I heard Aldridge say that the wizards were interested in him this week, but that's about it, no indication that the nuggets are even trying move him. Ernie keeps it quiet until last second though, who knows.

So could we just throw a 2nd at Shabazz and then give him his qualifying offer this offseason and keep him for 2 years? I've never understood how qualifying offers work
