Norm is more condusive to building a championship team and doesn't cost 30 million a year.

You can be cool and calm and still be wrong. This isn’t even a debate right now, I cross my fingers hoping Powell can both stay healthy and plays consistently as good as he’s been this year. If he does, there’s lots to like about his game and this can be an actual conversation. As of now it’s Derozan all day, Norm hasn’t even sniffed the type of defensive attention Demar has faced for years. It’s an unfair comparison right now.

yes, he's much better this year than Demar ever was.

of course, that's not exactly a high bar.

Without getting into the who's better/who's worse debate.

Norm Powell plays the right way and is a much better fit to this teams identity and the current NBA than Demar.

And he's shown good signs when it comes to playmaking and creating for others on a small scale.

And on that contract, Norm has waaaaay more value then DeRozan.

wait norm doesnt have bad defensive habits? lol.

derozan averaged 28 ppg in this era hes a modern player. everyone doesnt have to play the same robots.

when you guys claim is better than derozan theres also a long list of sgs also on that list.

booker is one.

If you're trying to convince me Norms defense is any way as bad as DeRozan, you are doing a bad job.

Even when Norm has been placed as a SF when ideally you have him at SG, he's had better individual defensive BPM's outside of one playoffs where he played a grand total of 40 mins.

Norm is a versatile defender that can switch 1, 2 and 3. Derozan is not known for his defense.

Without even getting into who's worse or better overall.

hes coming off the bench taking 12 shots/gm. norm has no business being compared to derozan or top sg’s.

and like i said he isnt even a good defender he often loses focus and gambles. norm isnt even better than fred van vleet.

to me a guy who averages 16 off the bench and never saw first option looks shouldnt he spoken of like he has here

Hard to compare the two. Demar has arguably the best midrange game and footwork in the league, in a different era, people would view him in a different light.

Defense is about equal. Norm gets lost and is slow on reads just like Demar was, not sure why he's getting the edge here in some eyes.

Norm does have legit range now though, that's a huge bonus in today's league. Then again, Demar is a far superior playmaker (largely set up by the craftiness in his offensive game), and is also bigger and can stand up to 3s and 4s better.

Blank slate with no contract or team composition considerations, I take Demar. On this team on current deals, I take Norm.

Lololol lock this thread. One is a hall of fame guarantee, the other plays behind Fred Van Vleet and possibly Patrick McCaw
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Bruh, Derozans entire career, his defensive numbers were trash, including the years he wasn't a 1st option on offense. You keep bringing up offense and first option, when that's inconsequential to the topic of defense.

Norm is a better, more versatile defender, period.

Defense and DeRozan, have no business being in the same sentence.

Edit; You know what, I'm going to concede, I really don't want to spend anymore energy than I have to arguing the numbers of a guy whose not on this team anymore.

Imagine thinking a no spacing providing mediocre efficiency chucker with terrible defense, and that somehow becomes historically bad in the playoffs is better than Norman Powell.

Although, you are calling him a "medium efficiency" chucker when he is shooting 53% this year. Lol@ that.

The question people aren't even answering is who is better? Norm can't get to the line, he can't rebound and he cant pass. You are all saying he's better than DeRozan because he doesnt cost 30 mill etc etc..
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

Norm over the past 3+ months is playing better than DeFrozen with the Spurs right now. Got to give DeFrozen the clear edge over their respective careers though.

FreshyFlames wrote:Do you think Norman Powell could put up DeRozan type numbers if he was the first option? He shoots the 3 better and plays better defense. His ability to shoot off the dribble has gotten better too. I'm not sure I'd trade Norm for DeMar straight up because I prefer what Norm provides to the team more then DeMar.

Better in every way except playmaking, but that can come. Better defense and three point shooting. More versatile piece in a lineup.

better defender, 100%

Norm can score in high volume - efficiently at all 3 levels without high usage and much time handling the ball, or plays ran for him. All while playing above average defense.

Just all around much easier to plug and play/integrate.
