CP3 needs to be benched

Lue's game plan has just shut down their shooters outside of Cam Johnson. Everybody but him is shooting <33% from deep and the team as a whole at 30.9%. Outside of that huge G1 Books been struggling to score the last 3 games and likewise with Paul with his return from Covid.

That said Payne is recovering an injury himself so there aren't many other options available. I mean Book's averaging 5tov vs 3.8ast the last 4 games.

I mentioned this in another thread, I don't really think it's covid effects, it's just as easily the effects of not doing game level conditioning for 11 days and dropping right back in to high intensity without ramping up.

At 36 ( and even if younger), you're not taking 2 weeks off then dropping into the NBA playoffs without having worked your way to it, even in non game situations, but just going from home to the court and thinking you can play 37 mpg at the same level. You don't need any covid after-effects for that to be a problem.

For those calling this notion crazy, take a look at the suns offensive numbers in game 1/2 without CP3 and then look at with him. They’ve simply looked much better in this series with him off the court. From

CP3 playing at such a slow pace, continually putting them in the half court is killing them. He has a track record of coming up small in big playoff games. He’s going to have to pick it up to deserve his regular playing time if he’s hurting their chances to win this bad. I don’t think he’s getting the calls tonight if he just starts diving around again.

In addition, Payne is not the star Phoenix needs in a tight game 6. He will take too many shots from Booker and Ayton. Payne is not and likely never will be the solution. Clips have figured him out and I doubt we will see him become more effective next game.

Not bench him completely but if they can’t run with him out there and he isn’t producing, it’s hard to ignore how much worse they’ve been with him in this series. Clips backcourt is a little different than what Denver was rolling out (would campazzo/ rivers even be in the rotation under normal circumstances for Denver?) defensively. They should be running all over this old/banged up clips team, and were in games 1 and 2.
