Re: Malachi Flynn
It would be foolish to write anyone off before they're given a real chance. He was drafted 28th for a reason so expecting him to make an immediate impact behind Fred and Lowry would be unrealistic.
I am expecting him to show he's a good backup PG this season. We'll be able to judge him properly after this season.

Re: Malachi Flynn
I mean, he was the 29th pick. If all he becomes is a reliable backup guard, he will be a success.

Re: Malachi Flynn
i think he will be decent, see a DJ Augustin-ish level career for him.
His defense is good and his ball skills are great, but w/ his limited tools he'd have to become an all-time passer &/or shooter to really be an impact player and I don't see either happening.
For the 28th pick its fine but I do wish we drafted someone with more potential

Never judge a player's shooting skills based on the rookie season. His shot was better when he played more, not a coincidence.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Re: Malachi Flynn
Interesting take. I actually think he has a chance to be a good starter or 6th man type of player in this league. He has shown a much more creative offensive arsenal than any PG the Raptors have had in recent years and you could see last year that playmaking comes naturally to him.
During summer league he did go more into FVV mode but I think that was more him trying out his offense.
The biggest thing going against him right now is his size. If he can overcome that, he'll be fine.

He arguably has the best looking shot on the team his shooting should not be a concern at all just simply watching him even back in college it's just about consistency

In my mind, he's at the point that I wouldn't mind if he's running the offence as a starter for short periods of time. Should injuries hit, he's good enough now to patch the holes. He's a very measured point guard.
That's saying something given how little he's actually played.

Re: Malachi Flynn
Malachi is a gamer. In a lost season he played big minutes and mostly produced despite not really having much G-League time or practice time. Obviously he works on his craft a lot and it was evident in the draft. I love his handle and his hands are great for deflections - definitely influenced by watching a ton of CP3.
As a starter he looked really good:
I complain a ton about him because he has so much good on-ball quickness, a beautiful jumper and takeover ability I expect him to be like that every game. He can be a game changer. He just needs to be more consistent and resilient when things aren't going his way.
I did think he was originally going to be more of a floor general, but he doesn't seem overly daring or creative with his passing and seems more score-first. Dragic will help mentor him to become more balanced, I think. Hopefully they deploy the two-guard option which allows Malachi to play with a high IQ player to learn within the game.

Re: Malachi Flynn
I like him as a potential backup PG but I wish he was taller. Having Dragic here will actually be good for Flynn, he still needs to play behind experienced guys like FVV and Goran, and learn. He will still get enough minutes.
He is nowhere near the class of 6'4 Suggs though.

There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

With better defense and outside shooting.Flynn this year should be almost as good as Augustin's best years.
Augustin has proved himself as a NBA reserve, Flynn has not done so yet,

Do I think Flynn is going to be a star? No, I don't. But I do think he can be a solid player in this league.
Also, Pritchard was drafted before Flynn. And he hasn't really shown he can play moreso than Flynn. They are different players.
I get that the kid from Boston was drafted before Flynn. The fact of the matter is though that the kid in the Celtics far out played Flynn.
Can you atleast take a second out of your day that you decided to bash a Raptor and compare hum to a Celtic and noteven know the players name you are talking about ??
Pritchard, Nesmith ??
"Flynn sucks because I think that Celtics kid is better" wtf are we suppose to do with that information[/qu
I am not bashing anyone. I am just living in reality where Flynn shot 32 percent from the field and I was scared every time the kid shot.

What Malachi did in the 4th quarter of the last Atlanta game to almost bring us back into it was ... spectacular. Then there was him and Harris in the Dallas game, going up against a healthy Mavs team that was highly motivated to win and avoid the play-in (mission accomplished).
Yes, it's about consistency. It wasn't quite there in SL. But don't be shocked if the level of consistency Malachi eventually finds is at a high level.

I don’t think you can write him off so early in that sh*tty Tampa year. Give him this season at least to prove himself. He looked good in Summer League.

His shot looks pretty every time he lets it fly, so maybe the 32% has more to do with ya know rookie things, like not enough strength, not a lot of reps, not a lot of consistency, the further distance of the 3pt line. You still haven't even produced the name of the player that you are talking about on the Celtics. This comes off as a troll when you don't try to put a lot of validity into your thread

I think a lot of people want to put a ceiling on him because he was the 29th pick but it was a weird year with the pandemic interfering with scouting. Flynn looked really solid as a rook and if he puts in the work, I think he can be really good.

You're allowed to be scared, your feelings are your own. Feelings are not facts, though.
Flynn got his first significant minutes (>20 in a game) on April 2nd. He played 30 minutes that night, and over the last 24 games of the year he averaged 28.7 minutes per game (as a rookie, with no home games, with no summer league, with fluctuating backup teammates, etc etc). In those 24 games, he shot 43% from 2, 37% from 3 (on >5 attempts), 83% from 3, had a 3-to-1 A/TO ratio on 4.5 assists a game, and averaged a dozen points and 4 boards from the PG spot. Those numbers are low end starter/very high-end backup for an NBA PG...as a 23 years old rookie with everything working against him.
You know whose stats are similar? FVV, who shot 42% from 2 and 37% from 3 last year. Will Flynn turn out great? No way to know. but his performance last year was encouraging, not discouraging. If you were higher on the #29 pick before he went 12/4.5/4 with good defense and decent percentages over his last 1/3rd of a season than you were after, you may nee to reevaluate your takes.

Very DJ Augustine-ish
Maybe we get lucky and his ball iq is off the charts and he turns into a Marc Jackson type.
