Just in case you weren't familiar with more of the family tree, Jerami is brothers with Jerian Grant, and both are the sons of Harvey Grant who played in the NBA and is Horace's twin brother.

And as a side story: When they were kids, Harvey once stabbed Horace in the butt with a fork, and Horace left it in until his mom got home to get Harvey in trouble.

I knew that Jerami and Jerian were brothers and that Horace and Harvey were brothers. But I never made the connection between the two generations.

Another one from just a few minutes ago:
I learned today that George Gervin played for one season with the Bulls as Michael Jordan's teammate. Until now, I had always thought he had played exclusively for the Spurs in the NBA.

Stephen Curry is actually Jesus, and it all makes sense.

That is the most surprising one I’ve seen that I wasn’t aware of.

There’s a difference between not caring about it and making millions off it.

The players have nothing to do with that. They have zero input or say into who the league sells their broadcast rights to.

Also, the NBA isn't going out and clapping their hands in support of the CCP. They're just doing the exact same business they do in every other country in the world in the Chinese TV market. I don't know how much you know about the global supply chain, but about every single product or service that you purchase is going to pass through China on some step of the way. We are all indirectly supporting their government in the same way that the NBA is if that's how you choose to look at it.

You can stick your head in the sand all you want and I wont even judge, but the bottom line is many of these players make millions on the backs of slave labor, and they know it, and they are complicit. Like I said, they can support anarchy and upsetting the establishment here all they like....but it rings hollow when they directly and indirectly support an even worse regime, no matter how far away from their own back yard it is.

Following on from this, and the only reason I found out is because of the Magic fact, the Heat played in the West for the 1988-89 season in their debut season.

The B in NBA stands for basketball

Blew my mind when I first learned that.

Had to look this up, they started as the Rochester Seagrams after the Seagram beverage company sponsor them, for years. Crazy.

Reminds me of when the NFC West in the NFL had New Orleans, Atlanta, St. Louis, and Carolina.

Good one and through the NBL whose origins (to my mind) really ought to count as the birth of today's NBA.

I'm all for the promotion of the NBL, but I tend to see it more along the lines that the NBA needs to be understood as the East Coast corporate takeover of professional basketball by destroying the NBL rather trying work alongside it - and the fact that the NBA doesn't treat the NBL's records as real, is because of what their goals were.

But yeah, and I'll add:

The Rochester Royals (who would become the Kings) were the 2nd best basketball team in the NBL behind the Minneapolis Lakers, and would also prove superior to any team in the BAA (which became the NBA).

Those Royals would be the premier offensive team of the age, while the Lakers were the premier defensive team.

Those Royals had Bob Davies, Arnie Risen & Bobby Wanzer as their best 3 players, but the 4th best was Red Holzman...who would go on to coach the Golden Age Reed-Frazier Knicks, who also had role player Phil Jackson...who would go on to coach the Jordan Bulls, who also had role player Steve Kerr...who would go on to coach the Golden State Warriors. And all of these teams played a read & react style that was informed by this coaching tree throughline.

And I'll note the Zollner Pistons of Fort Wayne, Indiana with Bobby McDermott as their star, were the best basketball team in the world in the '40s (through the mid-50s) in the NBL before becoming the Detroit Pistons.

Miami 88-89
Charlotte 89-90
Orlando 90-91

You’re right! Thank you for pointing those out. I was first looking at Charlotte’s 89-90 in the Western Conference (Midwest Division) but all those three seem bonkers in their divisions. :o

Flash Falcon X wrote:I went to this thread to post about the Ironmen.

Warriors are celebrating their 75th anniversary as one of the league's original franchises and a few weeks ago I saw their first game was against the Pittsburgh Ironmen who I never heard of before lol.

Also, Warriors are still considered one of the original franchises--their blue, red and yellow jerseys this season are an homage to the jerseys the Philadelphia Warriors wore. So cool to see Otto Porter Jr. wear a similar jersey that his grandpa wore.

Nice one on the bolded part!

I'm quite sure many people didn't notice this, lol.

I think the list goes on. I think Houston was in the East once and Chicago was in the Western Conference for a couple of years.

I wish there were a clip which could show on a map the changes of NBA Teams and Divisions over time.
Seems like there were a lot of weird changes.
