Re: Welcome to Portland Shaedon Sharpe!
He has the attributes to be the prototype for the modern game, huge 2-way ceiling.
Will be interesting to see him get some minutes. though Billups has to juggle minutes for Simons, Little, Hart, Grant.
Then there's also Keon Johnson and Elleby or are those guys permanently at the end of the bench?

Re: Welcome to Portland Shaedon Sharpe!
I think Portland will essentially red-shirt Sharpe, much like they did with Simons in 2018.
With Simons, Dame and Hart on the scene there is no need to play him until he's ready.

Ant took forever to build a NBA body, I am not convinced Sharpe immediately is a contributor, but I think he has a better chance to be one than Simons. He has an NBA body right now.
What will keep Shaedon off the court is defense, which is a huge unknown right now. But as the 7th pick, even without any run last season, it will be a decent sized disappointment if he is a 7MPG guy like Ant as a rookie.

Re: Welcome to Portland Shaedon Sharpe!
I'm pretty excited to see what he can do in summer league, it tends to favor microwave players who can get their own shot like he projects to be.
I think Billups will be a little less likely to redshirt him for a year compared to Stotts but our SG position is deep so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't see a ton of time as a rookie. I think players like him can develop in the wrong way if allowed to do too much too early, I would like to see him encouraged to, rewarded for and earning his minutes by improving his all around game - hustle, defense, moving the ball well, picking his shots judiciously - before giving him the green light.

Re: Welcome to Portland Shaedon Sharpe!
He looks so strong in his base, he appears to take contact and adjust his body so well, which is huge for a kid so young. It's really exciting to see how he may be able to develop. It feels almost unnatural for a guy so young to look so effortlessly smooth and fluid in his body motions while also being able to absorb contact and adjust well. I want to see if t hat carries over to NBA competition.

Dont agree w/ the SG position being too crowded.
Unless something drastic happens, Hart is our starting SG and Ant is the backup PG. Only a few guys on the FA market are SF starter quality - Warren, Kyle and probably OPJ + Batum. Still, nearly all those guys have been predominantly PF the last few years, and on top of that Anderson + maybe OPJ have Full MLE potential, Warren is a huge unknown and Batum is in love w/ LA.
I dont see much chance we find a better SF option than Hart. Bledsoe may be a tool, but we cant attach much to him as incentive. Hayward is the best option, but CHA would have moved him draft night if he was a cheap as we wish (EC cheap). Utah hasnt shown signs of tearing down + BB is a PF now (And cant defend there either).
Buying low on Duncan and trying to get a FRP on top might be a decent move but we wont want to pay him nearly 80M over the next 4.
O'Neale or Thybulle would be ideal, but dont think we have the ammo for either.
Reality is Hart may be 6'5 but he plays bigger and is a near certainty to be our best option as the starting SF.
There should be plenty of minutes for Sharpe to snag at SG if he wants them enough.

I'm pretty sure Jabari Walker is going to replace CJ Elleby next season. Elleby seems like a nice enough guy and all, but given extended playing time on an intentionally bad team, he was consistently outplayed by Watford, Blevins, Brown, etc. Not every second round pick pans out.

Shaedon already seems a lot more comfortable in front of the media. Keen to see Summer League. I think he'll have his struggles with team defensive schemes, but keen to see how his individual defense fairs.

I hope we waive Elleby tbh. Far too erratic and it rarely leads to good things. I just don’t think the pace of dudes game is meant for the big league. He needs to take it down a massive notch.

No surgery required for Shaedon. He'll be rehabbing the shoulder and is expected to be fit for training camp.
That's huge news. When I saw him at the Summer League championship game with his shoulder strapped up, I figured surgery was inevitable.

Re: Welcome to Portland Shaedon Sharpe!
What a Home-Run swing this kid is. So easy to get excited about his potential, having a floor to ceiling range that is larger than any player I can recall in recent NBA history. He's still a total mystery to most everyone, but from what little I've seen of him, Floor: J.R. Rider or Billy Ray Bates maybe if you want to go way back. The ceiling however, from the looks of the H.S. games reeks of KOBE, and so do his measurements. I don't use this comparison lightly either, but he clearly just wants to dunk on everybody, and appears to play with a massive edge, ala "Black Mamba".
Regardless of what he turns out to be, seeing Shaedon Sharpe along with Walker, Keon and BG3 as our #12-15 really ain't too shabby. Our team is really like night and day compared to this time last year... and sorry Didi, maybe there's a two-way contract in your future, but you're definitely #16 fella.
RIP CITY!!!

If SS can be JR with a head screwed on straight that would be a huge hit.
Kobe he is not.

Re: Welcome to Portland Shaedon Sharpe!
Here's hoping he can get healthy so we can watch him in blowouts. I'm super worried that he's Zach Collins 2.0 and it won't matter if he has skills cause he's always out with some sort of minor injury.
