By looking at 3rd party opinions on the general trade board, it appears we won the trade. We still have a glut at the 2/3/4 positions…I would like to see another move that consolidates the roster (2 for 1 type trade, where we trade 2 and get 1). I think is important our young core gets minutes!

Not sure I want Oladipo. Will Davis play no minutes his first season? Are we developing Deni and Kispert? If we don't move Barton and Kuzma. It's a young bench of Davis, Kispert, Deni, Rui and Gafford and they'll probably sign another veteran or two. Starters: Morris, Beal, Barton, Kuzma, KP.

Wright might fit better with Beal with his size (6-5, 185) than Morris (6-2, 183)

Adrian Wojnarowski: Washington is finalizing a trade to acquire Denver’s Will Barton and Monte Morris for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Ish Smith, sources tell ESPN. Yossi Gozlan: Wizards need to throw in another small salary to have this trade executed before the end of June. Doing so would allow Denver to generate a $15.6M trade exception by sliding Ish Smith into the $8.2M JaMychal Green trade exception.

Monte Morris is a pretty good player. Not a great defender, but adds another level offensively. Good placeholder starting PG.

Not sure why we would want Barton. He’s pretty bad, but it’s an expiring contract so who cares

PIF is probably gonna like this trade. He’s a fan of Morris.

Just took a quick look at Barton’s numbers. Better all-around baller than KCP, especially rebounding and assists. Of course, KCP is better on D.

The news of this trade did not make me throw my breakfast at the wall. Seems sort of pointless, would make sense to move Barton along.

I like that Wes is building a culture with guys he knows who know how to play in his system. Defenders in particular. Young guys need veteran examples, and a rookie coach needs players who don't have to be convinced he knows what he is doing.

I do like the assist numbers (3.9apg) last season. But he's normally a solid scorer who misses about 30 games per season. Since I'm a Baltimore guy now, have always rooted for him. Not the most durable guy and I don't think this trade was about him. They will probably end up dealing him again either now or before the trade deadline with his expiring deal.

Right, I'm sure Wes had a hand in this getting two guys he knew very well.

(1) The Count of Monte Assist/TO himself! I like the trade going either way, though as a fan of both teams I had kind of hoped for a little more in terms of both our PG search and Denver's quest for a defensive guard.

(2) This looks extra-good if Barton is re-routed, though I like him - we don't need him at the 2 or the 3 with Beal, Davis, Kispert, whichever of our many PFs are sliding down a position that day, etc, all needing to see the floor.

(3) I'm not sure that this rules out a Brogdon trade - Barton's (expiring) salary gets us quite close to the number that would be needed to match Brogdon in a trade, and he offers Indiana some value merely by being an expiring contract - if we can tack on another $2m or so, the Pacers find themselves free of the ~$65m owed to Brogdon over the next three seasons. (I assume we still have to send a little compensation their way in this scenario.) Interestingly, pairing the injury-prone Brogdon with a very high-level backup in Monte would kind of parallel what we've got going with the Porzingis / Gafford rotation at the 5.

(4) I wouldn't put too much stock in the claims about Morris and/or Barton being advanced stats gods, defensively - the whole point of Denver shopping them was to shore up defense at the exact positions they play.

(5) I imagine Ish gets waived upon arrival, but if he suits up for the Nuggets it'll be his 13th team - a record! If he gets waived and goes back on the market, it's very close to a 50-50 shot that he's already played for any given team which happens to sign him.

Listening to a Nuggets podcast, it sounds like some framework of a KCP for Barton deal has been on the table for quite some time, and it sounded like Shep wanted either Morris or Hyland to complete the deal. It probably would have been done a lot sooner if one of them was initially included.

They needed to add more salary to the transaction so that the Morris/Ish salary differential could be absorbed in the 125% rule. Also, KCP is better than Barton so Denver presumably insisted on getting him in order to make the deal go through.

Barton is going to be a chucker. I'd rather those minutes go to Kispert & Davis. Maybe Barton gets traded at the deadline for a team who needs scoring and a future 2nd.

Would Orlando be agreeable for a Barton for Ross swap? Ross wants out.

Gill is a RFA so I guess it'll be Todd. Sigh - what a waste of 31st pick.
