Run it back with the same core that can’t win home playoff games…no thanks. They have all the talent in the world and do the hard part winning a lot of road playoff games but for whatever reason they can’t be at their best at home and when you have players like Smart saying we didn’t play hard enough the first 3 games of a series down 0-3, it’s a problem. How these guys don’t get up for big home playoff games, I don’t understand. They haven’t won anything yet but motivation seems to be an issue with this core at times.

This team lost 9 home games this season and lost 6 home games in the payoffs. The way Boston plays at home in the playoffs is a major issue and is the reason they lost the finals last year and the ECF this year.
This team is completely broken at home in the playoffs and nothing will change next year either.

Re: Just Run It Back
If running it back means another year of making the playoffs and making comfortable money for ownership, then yes they'll run it back.
If they want to win a title in the next few years, they'll fire Brad, Joey Clueless, and half the roster.
This team has all the talent but they play scared. Tatum is all-world but has that look on his face like a 5 year old who just lost track of his mom in JCPenney's. And Jaylen Brown could actually be an elite player if he'd develop middle school level dribbling skills and stop falling down every other possession.

Re: Just Run It Back
Any team trading for Brown basically won't be able to extend him until he hits FA. You'd be trading him at his lowest value. Better off re-signing, giving Joe another year. Trading Brown and possibly firing Joe next year.

Joe could probably go 0-82 next year and his job would be 100% safe. They also won't trade Brown. Gallo is going to be the offseason addition and maybe replace Rob with a Center that has a decent 3 point shot.

Man, you're high if you think firing Brad is the right move. Remember he's still has to act within the restraints of imposed by the board of governors so he can't go full 2K GM on the joint.
The amount of cleanup this guy has done in the past two years has been incredible.
156-1 Celtics are frauds when pressure is put on them. They would have been toast if Luka was not stupid enough to foul himself out. Enjoy this ONE finals win. There will never be another with the Js and the Celtics cant afford stacked team.
I know the default is thinking with the extension and multiple years his value will go up, but I'm not sure that's true. Those years will be at 35% OF THE CAP! Other teams know the analytics and the shortcomings of his game. They'll know he has to join another star in order to get anywhere and know how hard it will be to fill out a roster with 2 stars and JB at that cap level.
I think if you sign him to a supermax, you should be planning on keeping him at least 2 years into that extension at a minimum. By then maybe cap rises have made his deal slightly more palatable.
If you can get some of the deals being thrown out now, I think you jump.

Not saying you’re wrong, but pitch me a trade that makes sense now and I’ll take it if it makes sense. I don’t think there’s one out there unless the blazers give up the third pick or we do something like take a chance on Paul George and his shoulders.

IDK. Siakam only has a year left on his deal too. Perhaps just trade them for each other.
Otherwise, you're probably right - we sign JB to the supermax and then possibly trade him next summer..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Re: Just Run It Back
Think of how nobody wanted to sign Hayward to 30 mil a year just to have that salary to trade. Having a 20 mil a year player on 30 mil is dumb and it doesn't make your team better or give you an asset to trade later. People are already saying Julius Randle's 25 mil a year deal is an albatross. Imagine paying twice that for a guy who's essentially the same player.

Agree there's a point where there's not enough value coming back, but if the 3 and Simons or better deals are out there, sign me up. I think his market is low due to being expiring but high at the same time due to positional and all star scarcity on the market. So I have no idea what we can get.
I really don't wanna supermax tho, so if there isn't a great deal, I dunno what you do

Re: Just Run It Back
If they indeed run it back, they'd need a new coach that would instill a new mindset and playstyle. Because living and dying by the 3, unless you have all time shooters like Steph and Klay, isn't GONNA bring you a championship. It's too reliant on "luck" at the expense of any real consistency. Just look at the non-GSW title winners in the recent years.
Milwaukee had Giannis.
Toronto had Kawhi and Siakam.
Cleveland had LeBron.
Miami had Lebron and Wade.
San Antonio had Parker and Duncan.
Dallas had Nowitzki (while a good 3 point shooter, was largely a 2-point scorer)
So either Tatum makes an adjustment to balance his offense more and lean towards his mid-range and driving game, or we bring in a stud offensive big. Either way is better than running it back with the same personnel and same playstyle. It just ain't gonna cut it.

Oh don't worry you'll get 9 months of this board's posters telling you you're not a fan if you don't think this core is the equal of a dynasty too when we run it back.

Cleanup?
Idk about that.
He lost what he hoped would be an all-star PG in Kemba. Saw a roster deplete of any playmaking or dribble drive penetration. And what did he do?
Instead of doing the correct thing and looking for the solution he just traded first rounders for players that have previously played for him or players that didn't address the problem but have bench level/starting level talent that tanking teams were looking to dump.
It's not a good job to throw away first rounders for guys like those, you're supposed to save your first and trade them for when players ask out that are ceiling raisers like a future Dame Lillard trade and you're a contending team. Or save them when you're a rebuilding team and you're supposed to draft them.
Stevens made treadmill safe trades and just survived based on all the hard work Ainge did adding talent to the roster thanks to Tatum's individual growth as a player.

100%.
No but really if anyone pitches me a realistic alternative to running it back I’m open to it. I just don’t think it happens.
Plus all the good veteran coaches are hired. You’d be bringing in an inexperienced coach who hasn’t been with this core.

Should’ve green-fonted it too lol.
Post-Warriors, I’d be surprised if there will be another dynasty in a while. Peak of parity in NBA due to a multitude of factors.

I’d definitely listen on siakam, dame or a deal that just over whelms us with assets. Personally feel most of these deals that include multiple depth guys or rely on guys having upside will be there in a year after jb is super maxed.
I know people will tell me dame is too old blah blah blah. Same people thought we’d walk right back into the finals this year. Obviously prefer much younger or honestly different position like siakam. Don’t expect either deal to happen. We will be running it mostly back Imo.
