I'm Surprised the Stevens hasn't Added some more Exhibit 10's? -- If anything, then for the G League, as Affiliates.
There'll probably be a run on Exhibit 10's closer to Camp, and during Camp.

We've got 4 spots left on the training camp roster. I think first day of training camp is september 30. So still plenty of time. I'm sure he'll fill those last 4 spots over the next few weeks..

Maybe he’s more focused on the top of the roster? Last summer I had legit enthusiasm for Bruno Caboloco and Jake Layman and Noah Vonleh and I can imagine that MY burnout about caring about guys like that could easily pale in comparison to the fatigue of the exec in charge of scouring the world for such. I mean, ideally the staff is large enough that someone keeps trying to find the next Javonte Green or Max Struss — for as much as we talk about “Brad” — is this Austin Singe’s bag? Someone else? Not Zarren. What is the Celtics staff actually like? I sadly do not know.

Yes, I think Brad delegates quite a bit. I've heard him mention in interviews that it really is a team effort in the front office.

To my knowledge, this is the staff...

Brad Stevens - President of Basketball Operations
Mike Zarren - cap guy. Brad's right hand man
Austin Ainge - Director of Player Personnel
Remy Cofield - Director of Scouting
Ashley Battle - scout for NCAA and G League players
Benas Matkevicius - international scout

Can’t remember the exact podcast but I was listening to a few episodes with their scouts last year. Can’t say too many specifics I remember but it was cool to listen. Main thing that stuck out was the scouting was very broad - ie, they just were out scouting everyone and creating files in everyone, not just “hey let’s look at the guys that we think will be in this draft,” or whatever.

Basically that way they had more comprehensive details in place if UDFA guy Joe Schmoe suddenly looks great in Europe, they’ve got all the history and personality info from all the years prior. In other words the details on who the guy was as a person was very important, maybe even more so than who he is as a player.

I think it was the one that the team itself produces, Mark whatever his name is.

Good luck to Valerio-Bodon. I thought that perhaps he'd get a camp invite somewhere - possibly with us.

I'm not sure he's an NBA caliber player. But you never know, 6'9" wings who can shoot like that and are only 22 yrs old - he's at least got a shot to try and make it.

Surprised we haven’t heard more camp names. L.A. does have a open roster spot but they’ve filled all their two ways.Looks like Pippen jr will be on their G league team. Wonder if theyll bring in a vet name.

The Knicks may have signed Charlie Brown, but Lucy, Linus and Pigpen are still out there awaiting
a call up for the Celtics 15th spot....

Decent pickup. Low risk, high reward. I mean, he doesn't have a ton of upside, but he's a shooter. You can never have enough shooters. He has the potential to be another Hauser or Bertans type of guy.

6'8". Can shoot. Kind of similar to Hauser but Funk is stronger physically, and is also a little bit more skilled in terms of handling the ball, backing his man down in the post and hitting turnaround jumpers or being able to hit shots off the dribble (where Hauser is more of just a catch and shoot guy).

Where Hauser has the edge is he's just a better player. Hauser played 4 yrs of college ball in a high major conference. Funk played 4 yrs of college ball in a mid major conference. If Funk was a better player, he would have played high major all 4 yrs. Or he would've started off mid major, dominated and then transferred up to a high major.

Also, as you can see he didn't put up good numbers in summer league this year, in terms of PPG or 3 PT%. So Funk is a long shot to make the team. But he could at least snag that last 2-way spot if he plays well enough in camp/preseason.

Funk is a stretch 4. Not big enough, not enough interior defense, rebounding or rim protection to play the 5. Not quick/athletic/skilled enough to play the 3. So he's basically a pure 4. But with Davison and Scrubb on 2-ways, we'd be probably looking at someone who can play the 4 and/or the 5 for that last 2-way.

So like I said, he's a long shot. But the potential is there for him to be similar to Hauser but stronger and tougher and a little more dynamic with the ball in his hands. So if he really works out, he could be a solid floor spacing 4 off the bench. Which we kind of already have with Hauser - but he's more of a 3.

We had 4 more training camp spots open and 1 more 2-way available so I figure, why not roll the dice on Funk and see what he can do?

If he hits, Funk could be a slightly worse Bojan Bogdanović or a Hauser/Bertans type of guy. Again, that's a solid floor spacing forward off the bench. And if that happens, he's a steal of an exhibit 10 signing. If not, you cut him during camp or at the end of it and it's no loss.
