That's such a short sighted view. Overall the East leads the West 37 to 29 in All-Star game wins. Yes in recent times the West was more dominant but so what? That's not something that would last forever, they didn't need to mess up the All-Star format because of a span of Western dominance.

My man I'm talking about when I started watching basketball in the 2000's. The West was better for most of that decade. Dudes was throwing out Shaq/KG/Duncan/Dirk/Webber while the East was throwing out Mutumbo/Antonio Davis/Rick Smith lmao

This is correct. While historically the disparity isn’t an issue, at the time (2017) there was a pretty big imbalance between the conferences as far as superstar players. Guys were repeatedly getting snubbed in the West while lesser players were making the team in the East.

I’m glad they are thinking of going back though, as the conferences seem more balanced nowadays and as the other poster commented, these are typically shorter term trends. (Although the west did have a pretty strong run through the 2000’s and 2010’s)

I’ve also mentioned this in the past as well. It’s such an easy and cost effective thing to do, while still being huge money makers.

It’s such a win-win solution for both fans and the business of the NBA at large. Almost like it makes too much sense for them to just do it.

Make this change. Then make divisions matter and make cross-conference games rarer. Finally cut down on player movement.

Maybe them you might get some actual rivalries again.

The thing is though that the amount of West and East players making it into the All-Star game hasn't changed. So this change did nothing to solve the issue of players getting snubbed. It was a failed experiment.

I think the nba needs to be more dynamic about this. Some years east-west, some USA-world, it depends on the players you have. For the last few years we’ve had a nice Embiid - Jokic rivalry going. Why are those guys not the captains? Why not script it so the first possession each way involves one-on-one post ups? Hype the game up as being the match to prove who’s the real mvp.

I think the traditional East v West is the better and more interesting style of All star game.

However I do believe it will be intriguing if we did something like, something bizarre, like all center /power forwards all stars vs all shooting guard/point guards.

I think it will be lopsided but the intrigue would get people talking and some new people tuning in

The correlation between selecting your all star team and creating super teams is uncanny.

Terrible idea from day 1.

Now that Jokic won they don’t know what to do so they go back.

The starting line ups will be comparable, but man the depth in the west is on another level. Good luck picking a starting 5 from this years west
