According to the poll results, over 80% want to go after Murray, so what non-Suggs trade package do y'all believe would cause ATL to say..."Ok. Deal!"?

It has to be pick-based deal and may need to involve a 3rd team if Atlanta wants win-now players.

Re: Should Magic go after Dejounte Murray?
Getting Dejounte Murray wont require trading Suggs, there's a subset of posters who always believe we have to grossly overpay to get players.
The Hawks most important requirement is 2 1sts, so far they haven't gotten any offers as far as we know that meet that requirement
Fultz, Okeke or Harris, 2024 1st Unprotected, 2025 Den 1st could get the job done. Maybe throw in Jett if they won't budge. Maybe take Clint Capela back too, but no way in hell am I taking back Deandre Hunter and his awful contract though
These are assets going out from our end, I'm leaning towards there being a 3rd team and some of out assets going to them so they can send a more appropriate win-now player to the Hawks

That's a great deal for the Magic. For ATL, if they are willing to trade their starting C and PG/SG for an oft-injured SG, oft-injured PG with a seemingly broken jump shot and a seldom used wing player... all the for the sake of getting 2 1st rd picks potentially in the 20's... COOL!ogmagicfan wrote:Getting Dejounte Murray wont require trading Suggs, there's a subset of posters who always believe we have to grossly overpay to get players.

Remind us what it took for Atlanta to land Dejounte Murray a year and a half ago?

Had to look it up, but...Gallinari, three first-round picks, and a 2026 pick swapthelead wrote:Dub_Sax wrote:That's a great deal for the Magic. But at this point, is his value higher, lower or the same as then?

Lower, because defensively he's gone from All-NBA to mediocre on defense, and hasnt made a difference on improving the Hawks
Even the Hawks recognize it in asking for 2 1sts

And his new contract kicks next season AND has a large trade kicker… dude is worth less than what Atlanta traded for him.

Not that I totally agree with that take but the idea that we may be able to get him for Fultz and a young wing not named Suggs, maybe Caleb, plus 2 picks mentioned seems more plausible..thelead wrote:ogmagicfan wrote:Dub_Sax wrote:Had to look it up, but...Gallinari, three first-round picks, and a 2026 pick swap

This trade wasn't some conspiracy - it was just a GM wanting AD bad enough where in most people's eyes he overpaid by a long shot to get him.

Then why did he get benched?
Also
You got the exact numbers and game logs? It'd be fun to break those down because ya know, Franz has been out and our schedule has gotten tougher, ya know?

I actually don't mind him getting benched but it has been obvious that Houstan and Okeke aren't the right answer and that AB is better than both. It's time to end the Houstan/Okeke experiment. Also, as you see here and other trade threads, I'm all about finding a starting PG to allow us to bring AB along slowly. I'm not a 'AB MUST START' guy... I'm a 'FO needs to do their job and build a winner around our core' guy.

I want them to... he fits what exactly the Magic want. But I'm concerned about that personal relationship he has with Paolo. They might be cool now but I don't know if it's really mended.

Black isn't apart of the core TBH. They most likely have Banchero, Franz, and Suggs as the guys. Black hasn't shown enough for them to have that sort of commitment to him.
He seems more like a trade piece for the Vets they'll bring in during this deadline or off-season once they are able to surround the core with the right talent.

Re: Should Magic go after Dejounte Murray?
I agree on the core. I'm curious about the trade piece idea. I've always viewed lottery picks like cars, drive them off the lot and they lose a lot of value. Risky making the pick with a mind to trading it down the road vs just trading it at the time. I don't think this is a reasonable conclusion.JF5 wrote:eyriq wrote:Are you saying he lost the starting job?The-Stallion70 wrote:We did

That’s fine and all until you’re responsible for managing a team and you’re evaluating fit and ultimately responsible for the performance of the team. It could be a home run, it could also destroy the culture and making Paolo and Franz pissed off. It absolutely needs to be looked into by the FO. If we make a move for a guy like Simons instead, it tells me something was there with Dejounte and we weren’t willing to take the gamble. Not being in ‘the know’, I couldn’t be mad at the FO. But we have to make a good move regardless. There are other fish in the sea if they think Dejounte is not the right fit.
Agree completely. They have to take a hard look...I'm just saying I looked a little deeper and changed my mind about him. I haven't come across anything that suggests he's a jerk...but he might be. Not clicking with Trae - who, by all accounts, is a jerk - is no indication of a guy being a chemistry problem... but I also really don't know, so I agree they'd have to really investigate that aspect.
For me, it’s his troubled past. It is hard to recover mentally from two absent parents that were locked up. Dude had to resort to the streets before he even became a teenager and got locked up himself. That’s a rough past. That said, you can’t hold that over him forever but it obviously affects how one grows and matures.
If the FO, and Paolo, can overlook the beef, coach Mosley might be the kind of guy Dejounte needs in his corner. I think Dejounte sees that himself and was why he had positive words about coach after the game.
A prime example of this post puts me in the mindset of Caron Butler. He was a guy who stayed in trouble during his younger days. It took time for him to realize he had to change his ways in order to become a better person in life. DJM I'm sure has overcome his ways also. Granted certain parts of his behavior may have created some ripples in the water fairly recently. I would think that DJM will continue to mature as he ages in life both on and off the floor. If DJM does become a member of the Magic, I think things will find a way to work itself out.
