Stars aligning well for a Grant overpay by LAL IMO.

Grant + Reath + Kris or Walker for Rui + Vincent + rights to Knetch + 29 FRP

G - Scoot Henderson / Anfernee Simons / Gabe Vincent
G - Shadeon Sharpe / Matisse Thybulle / Dalano Banton
F - Toumari Camara / Dalton Knetch / Rayan Rupert
F - Deni Avdija / Rui Hachimura / Kris Murray or Jabari Walker JR
C - DeAndre Ayton / Robert Williams III / Donovan Clingon

I like that quite a bit honestly.

PDX trades GRANT,MURRY,future 2nds
LAL trades DLO,knecht, filler, 29 1st(unprotected) 31 1st (unprotected)

I assume your smileys mean you know this is too much.

I would be absolutely shocked (and delighted) if the Blazers get Knecht back in a Grant trade with LA.

I agree. Think it would be 29 FRP + 30 FRP Swap and some collection of salary (I think we would want Rui as he is sorta young and is rotation worthy at a spot we would need to replace w/ Grant going out).

The protections would be the kicker - I would hope for 2029 UNP and a swap w/ some light protections (Top-4?) but could see something like 2029 Top-4 and 2030 Swap Top-8.

FWIW - I do any of the above. Getting a single lightly protected pick for Grant would be a home run.

I remain doubtful a Grant trade to LA will happen unless its mostly for filler but it
will be interesting to see where Lebron's head is.

Imagine the chaos if Lebron opted to sign elsewhere and all the Lakers could do is convert
Lebron's departure into a TPE

This. Most likely this is the roster that Portland goes into the 24-25 season?

Code: Select all

Deandre Ayton      25   $34,005,126
Jerami Grant       30   $29,793,104
Anfernee Simons    25   $25,892,857
Deni Avdija        23   $15,625,000
Robert Williams    26   $12,428,571
Matisse Thybulle   27   $11,025,000
Scoot Henderson    20   $10,259,160
Shaedon Sharpe     21    $6,614,160
Kris Murray        23    $2,990,040
Dalano Banton      24    $2,196,970
Duop Reath         28    $2,048,780
Rayan Rupert       20    $1,891,857
Donovan Clingan    21    $6,836,400
Jabari Walker      21    $2,019,699
Toumani Camara     24    $1,891,857
Total                  $165,518,581

That is well under the luxury tax.

Do you have your perspective on a positional depth chart?

How’s it doubtful we trade JG to Los Angeles? I’m expecting it within this month tbh

Yeah, I'm in the camp that would put a Grant to LA trade as probably better than 50/50 odds at this point. JG is a Klutch client... If they can get DeRozen on a MLE deal (not having to do a S&T with Bulls), then they do a Grant trade, they have a pretty decent roster that if healthy would be a Top 6 team in the west...

Reaves
DeRozen
LeBron
Grant
Davis

Grant in particular would seem like a really nice pairing with AD, I would think their games complement each other fairly well.

I would still force 2 FRPs out of LA for JG tho.

Portland won't (well, I would be shocked) just salary dump JG. All rumors are that while the Blazers are willing to part with him, they aren't going to do it on the cheap. I don't see any way the Blazers would trade Grant to LA without any FRPs coming back in return.

Why would any other team give up FRP's for the poo-poo platter of salary filler the Lakers are gonna have to give up to match JG's salary tho?

It could happen after Lebron returns from the Olympics but Portland's motivation is for picks
for they don't have to do anything being under the tax.

It would help if Knecht were in the deal for perhaps then the filler + a FRP would be enough.

Gives Portland another young player to add to Donovan, Scoot, Sharpe and perhaps Camara
moving forward

I was thinking if we could not get a frp maybe we get a desirable player :-?

I agree with this thinking. It is also why I think it doesn't happen until closer to the trade deadline.

Same question still applies, just replace "FRP" with "desirable player(s)". I don't think Rui has as much value as Laker fans want to believe, and Gabe Vincent is arguably a negative value player, he's practically unplayable and making 11mil.

Rob Palenka said today they're willing to give up FRP's to improve the roster this summer. I would have to imagine the Lakers are trying to get Grant with only 1 FRP, Blazers are probably demanding 2 of them... maybe the Lakers are willing to give 2 firsts but there is negotiations around protections... regardless, the longer FA drags and the Lakers don't get things done, the more leverage the Blazers have over LA.

I disagree, I think it's much more likely a deal gets done in the offseason with him.

Grant is a significant enough starting quality player that teams will want that before the season starts so he can get a full camp in with the new team and understand the system. Trying to plug in a new starting PF mid-season at the deadline is a much tricker thing to do because you've lost out on all that time in camp and working out kinks during the first month or so of the season.
