That's because Boston blew teams out by over 11 points on average last season, which allowed him to accumulate a lot of +/-.
If you look at who the top plus-minus players were for the 2023-24 season, five of the top 10 players were Celtics, with three Celtics taking the top 3 spots.

And yet he's still not ever been a top 5 player, as I said. He's been in the actual best organization in the league the last 10 years (unlike the lightyears ahead delusion), it helps when your team wins and is that dominant.
This disregards that he is a big reason why the Celtics have been successful.
MVP voters and impact stats had him as top 5 that year. I personally think last year he was 5-7 ish, but 2023 he was top 5. He isn’t the best player in the league but he is clearly in the mix for top 5.
Nobody has said he's not a big reason the Celtics are not successful, I think he's the best Celtics player even though Brown won the personal awards last season. My point is that he's never been a top 5 player at any point of his career. As others have said, he makes the biggest difference but Celtics as a team are demolishing teams so of course those numbers look good.

They've been doing that the last 2.5 seasons under different coaches and with different team constructions. In 22 they had an 22 they won by 12.7 in their last 44 games with 13+ net rating. The Celtics were even better that 2nd half than the numbers they did this year.
The team and other players deserve the credit but so does Tatum in his own right as one of the common factor. That doesn't mean he is the king/mvp of the 20s or that he isnt the best player on his team or one of tge better players of the 20s.

Ok . That’s your opinion and I respect it. I am pointing out that MVP voters and adjusted impact stats show that he has been a top 5 player.

What's funny is usually when a players team has the best record in the league, it helps their MVP chances. But in Tatum's case, even with his Celtics winning 60+ and being the clear best team with him being the clear cut best player, he wasn't even top five in MVP voting.

Re: Jayson Tatum, Mvp of the decade so far
since when does "being in the mix for top 5" consistently make you the MVP of the decade? a lot of players can make that claim
people can understand how another superstar like Durant would win FMVP next to Curry, but Jaylen Brown wasn't even an All-NBA player (which reflects reality because he truly isn't a top 15 player)
but to get outperformed by Brown for ECMVP and FMVP and then be parked on the bench in the Olympics (for LeBron/Durant) while 2 of your role players are balling out in the Olympics as well (Holiday/White)
it all just proves that Tatum is propped up by organizational greatness. Durant would probably win FMVP again no problem if he was swapped in for Tatum

And this is why Tatum is the most overrated player in the NBA, cause of people like this guy thinking so and everyone agreeing with him. I don’t get you people.

He's good enough that he'll see some floortime for USA when KD Steph and Lebron retire

I haven’t seen anyone agreeing with him here.

I expect Tatum to slowly gain more respect. He's going to win another championship and next time I expect him to be the MVP.

This is a worse take than the OP. I’d love to see some evidence for that…but I know there is t any.
