The Hawks are starting to remind me of the MVP Iverson Sixers or Ben Wallace Pistons, which is basically 1 super star and then 4 elite defensive players around him.

Right now its going to be JJ who is going to be Lebron on offense and then Dort, DD, OO, and NAW around him to play defense (also added Zuby who is basically the Ben Wallace of his draft class).

I do like adding a defensive player when you already have your star player, as opposed to adding more offensive players when you already have an all star on your team. Kind of like when the Bucks added Holiday instead of Lillard.

You mean...what they attempted to do with Trae plus defenders but didn't quite get there? We did that era Pistons already back in the JoeJ days. LeBron could still defend.
Hawks need their own identity vs trying to rip odd another team when we don't have The One!

So we only need to find a superstar and make JJ play defense...

Trading him now was the right decison instead of waiting. Our three rookies salaries are roughly what Zacch makes and I didn't think we would pay him the $17m team option after next season. Drafting a 19 year old international talent is something we don't need to do going forward if we're not going to take the proper steps to develop them. Same for any international players.

Same for any young players period. That is why I have reservations about people expecting Newell, Kingston, and Zuby getting minutes. Nothing we have seen from Quin indicates he will play them.

If Quin decides, before the game, the players that will play. this is who plays.
The remainder may as well not dress.

Exception: Players injured or thrown out. Maybe there is a chance. Maybe.

Quin, as the old people would say, "Is set in his ways!"

The main problem with this philosophy, maybe coming more from Ressler than Quin or Onsi themselves, is that it keeps the team just above average on sport level, but at the same time makes it one of the most profitable franchise in the world!

This team had more than $200M of operating income last year (7th highest in the world) and is owned by a guy who:
- made money with money
- bought the team in 2015 far lower than its current value
- had a net worth in 2015 of $1.5 billion and is now at $12 billion.

Why would he change anything in how to run this team?
It's perfect for him and his wife/kids, they got entertainment and money
Trying to compete for a title would bring entertainment too, but less money

Everytime we change GMs the philosophy changes, hence so will the players. So there will always be a rest, a reboot with the mantra being 'we can't spend' until we see what we have and let the young guys develop.
Different offseason, same story.

Which is frustrating when he sends his yappy little dog Koonin on the radio to say how we will for sure go into the tax for the right players.

Why can't we have a Blank style owner?

Spoiler:
Undrafted in 2019, Luguentz Dort has become one of the NBA’s premier perimeter defenders—physical, relentless, and scheme-perfect on the wing. He earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors in 2024-25, his first career selection, and finished 4th in Defensive Player of the Year voting that season. Dort played a pivotal role in OKC’s 2025 NBA Championship run and multiple league-best defensive seasons with elite team defensive ratings.

Across his career, Dort averages 0.9 steals and 0.4 blocks per game, with peaks like 1.1 steals in 2024-25. He consistently holds primary perimeter assignments—including isolations and pick-and-roll ball-handlers—to below league-average efficiency while posting a strong career defensive rating around 113.4 (often dipping lower in championship-contending years, such as 109.9 in 2024-25). At 6’4” and 220 pounds, his blend of strength, footwork, and nonstop effort makes him a nightmare on-ball while fitting seamlessly into switches and team help concepts.

Now with the Atlanta Hawks following a recent three-team trade, Dort will immediately upgrade their perimeter defense. Paired with Dyson Daniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, he forms one of the league’s toughest defensive trios—adding physicality, charge-drawing grit, and the ability to harass star scorers. This should make the Hawks far more tenacious and competitive on that end, especially in the East, while his expiring deal preserves future flexibility.

I love how the Lakers always have interest in players, despite they fact they don't have any assets to trade.

We have some scraps available for the Lakers but not key pieces like Dort.

If Hawks were trading Zacch at his lowest, I would have preferred they take a gamble on Reed Sheppard, Ron Holland or even Cody Williams.
