Giants are not going after Francisco Rodriguez, they might make one more middle relief signing.
I heard they want Furcal but he wants a bit too much.

I wasn't really being serious with that comment, it was a "ha ha ha Brian Sabean's going to give out another ridiculous contract" joke.

That joke can be made when he gives Rafael Furcal 4 years for $44M.

Now he can flip out on Justin Verlander for no reason, when he pitches inside on him.

I swear to God the second FJM hung it up the dam broke and now a whole river of stupid baseball writing is coming out. This one doesn't even have to do with awards voting, and yet it's still the dumbest thing i've read all week. All year, even.

^^^
I'm praying for the sake of human kind, that that article was a horrible attempt at comedy.
This one paragraph makes no sense, whatsoever:

Think about how selfish Rodriguez is. When he came over from Texas in the 2004 trade, he insisted on moving to a new position to prove he could be more than the best shortstop ever. It was Rodriguez that insisted that Jeter keep his position at shortstop. That was all part of his master plan to watch Jeter atrophy into the worst fielder in baseball and make Rodriguez look better by association.

Heh. My bad on that. I kind of half-read it the first time and missed some of the really obvious satire lines.

Bad news for the World Champs
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3715241
Utley could be out until June following hip surgery
If the Philadelphia Phillies weren't aware before Thursday of how hard it can be to repeat, the World Series champs know that now.
The team announced Thursday that second baseman Chase Utley will need right hip surgery that potentially could keep him out until the first week of June.
Utley consistently downplayed speculation about his bad hip during the second half of the postseason. But the Phillies revealed Thursday that since the World Series, he has had the hip evaluated by Phillies team physician Michael Ciccotti, of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital's Rothman Institute, and by Dr. Bryan Kelly, of the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
Both doctors recommended that Utley undergo surgery on his right hip. That procedure, described by the club as an "arthroscopic evaluation with treatment of any labral or bony injury," will take place next week.
According to the Phillies, Utley would be able to resume baseball activities in three to four months -- meaning sometime during spring training, but possibly not until the week before opening day.

Expect Sox to break bank for Teixeira
"Here's a prediction: By the time this is over, win or lose, the Red Sox effectively will have made Mark Teixeira the largest contract offer in the history of your storied franchise. Preposterous, you say? Clearly, you have not been paying attention. Since the Red Sox changed ownership, management, and philosophies early in 2002, the new owners and operators of the Red Sox have stopped at virtually nothing to acquire those things they have coveted most. When the best of the rest were bidding $35 million-$40 million to acquire the rights to Daisuke Matsuzaka, the Red Sox bid $51.11 million. When the rest of the world wondered why J.D. Drew opted out of his contract in Los Angeles, the Red ..."

I hope the Sox get Texira. But the only thing is, is were do we put him. We would have Youk at 1st and Lowle at 3rd, or we could put Tex at 1st and Youk at 3rd and leave Lowle at a every other day guy. Or do we use Tex at DH. But what does that do with Papi does that decrease his playing time? Its all confusing.

I think there are better ways to spend 150 million dollars. Like on CC Sabathia or someone who isn't a first baseman when your best player is a first baseman and your top prospect is a first baseman. And you have a pretty untradeable guy at third base.

Re: The Offseason Thread
I think Tex would be a huge sign for the Sox. You move Youk to third and just get what you can for Mike Lowell. And by the time Lars Anderson is ready maybe you got Ortiz out the door. Or teach the guy how to play left field and he takes over for Jay Bay.
As for CC, I do like the guy. I however don't trust breaking the bank on the guy. He's ate up a lot of innings and died come playoff time. Now is it a fatigue thing or can he just not get it done when it matters most? If I'm giving him a boat load of money he better be able to get it done come playoff time. And personally I don't think this team needs him. I'd rather see what Masterson or Bowden can do.
