Not sure the cap would allow such a trade to even go thru. GS does not need AB. They need more players. Trading a big for a little is a no-no unless it is a Chris Paul or D. Williams.

Lakers will have a offseason when you hear Point Guard a billion times. Resign DFish or not. Brown, is he a PG or SG. Farmar. Restricted. What is he worth.

No first round picks and 2 picks in the 2nd round. Do you try to find a PG there. So many questions and no real answers.

Lakers do not want to spend money and finding a new pg will be hard.

The team that I think would seriously consider Bynum and throw a ridiculous number of assets at us to get him would be Minnesota. I don't think they can sign anyone that's a given to me right now.

If the Lakers could trade Bynum along with Vujajic for the #2, say #15, and a MASSIVE trade expiring the possibilities are endless.

Imagine this team:

PG- Hinrich, Farmar
SG- Bryant, Brown
SF- Artest, Turner
PF- Gasol, Odom
C- Haywood (Brendan for the TPE we use to sign him), 15th pick

That roster is downright hard to beat. It has me salivating. Defensively it's incredible. Offensively it's excellent and versatile. It doesn't cost anymore than the current roster and it holds promise for the future.

Not that bad value wise but championship teams dont trade for picks mid season.

Deron Williams and Utah's NY pick and we talk Bynum. Neither Ellis nor anyone other than Wall in that draft is worth losing an established top tier NBA center for.

Take off the homer glasses and appreciate the view... I'd take Ellis + unprotected pick for Bynum all day everyday.

If the possibility looks like a C like Brendan Haywood, clearing Sasha off our cap, the #2, the #15, and Kirk Hinrich ya I think I'll take that value and enjoy three rings with that team plus an excellent future leader.

I can pick so many examples that prove big for small works quite often because the big is overrated for being a big.

I'd trade Bynum for Deron straight up. Of course Utah would say no, but it's ridiculous for anyone to think Bynum is worth both Deron and the NY pick.

That's right. Health is a long-term consideration. You want the basis for your long-term future to be durable as possible.

A) Ellis is a black hole and a cancer
B) We don't want picks, we want to win NAO

So no thanks.

People jock riding Ellis, but you're not winning anything with Ellis. I don't care about him being in the back court with Kobe, further more that's reason one on why he wouldn't be the Ellis he is in Golden State.

I get it's hypothetical and all, but I deal in reality and in reality that trade is gravely detrimental to a franchises long term success.

Let's stick with reality here, the OP in his opening post stated that Bynum would give them "a chance to finally go to the postseason with some hope". How exactly does Bynum function in a system predicated on quick shots when he's a back to the basket slow pace center ?

Secondly the last time Nelson had a decent big man it was Bob Lanier in Milwaukee in the late 70's and early 80's. And he didn't play that silly style of ball he plays now.

See I look at all the ramifications and long term impact of such deals, Pau isn't a 5 man and never will be and he wouldn't hold up to a full season at the 5. Ellis isn't a triangle guard nor is he a lead guard, if he's never been a distributor how in the hell do you expect him to suddenly be one now ?

Playing along side of Kobe is a deterrent to his game, because Ellis is a 2 stuck in a 1 body. But to play the Triangle you have to have a certain ball IQ, and I think Ellis lacks that to a degree.

And you just can't go off and say the Warriors will automatically get the 3rd pick, not when you consider how the lottery is set up. Yeah the Warriors have the 3rd worse record, but I'm willing to bet they won't be top 3 in the lottery. Plus coupled with the fact a team with a slightly better record can suddenly move ahead of them, much like how the Clippers won the last lottery despite not having the worst record.

Those are good points and I agree. You must be sure that whoever trades the pick in fact has the pick that you desire. Also on Ellis that's definite. He is not a triangle PG. A triangle PG is a young Chauncey Billups, Deron Williams, and that's a rarity.

Gasol can play the 5. I don't like idea of forcing him to play the five all the time. There are plenty of considerations to be made. What would you say to this possibility on the other hand. The Lakers land Kirk Hinrich and Brendan Haywood through a massive TPE, plus say the #2 pick and the #15. The team with Hinrich/Haywood is at least as good as the current team offensively and excellent on defense. In the mean time the team will have a shot at two players for its future.

There's something that Phil values in a big man more than anything. Remember when asked what type of player he'd like to start a franchise with? He immediately replied Dwight Howard. What did he ask Kwame to do above and beyond anything. Rebound, anchor, and clean up then bring the post game. Bynum is a fantastic scoring C, a good to great shot-blocker, but he's far from the presence that Howard is.

We're not as efficient offensively nor defensively with Gasol-Bynum and it's not necessarily a mental or skill development that's going to change that. I do agree that Gasol must have a C next to him but if that C isn't perfectly suited to his strengths and weaknesses then there isn't a point to at least diversify your assets.

I know you don't like the idea of Ellis+3 Deep but do you like Hinrich+Haywood+Turner+Larry Sander?

I'm all for young talent Jajwanda, Hinrich is ok and Haywood is decent but I wouldn't give up Bynum for him. I know you said we could get them through a TPE, thing is the Lakers TPE is only worth 2.5 mil. That's not getting both of them.

No definitely. What I meant was something along the lines of sending him to Minnesota without any salary coming back creating an absolutely massive TPE in addition to draft picks. That TPE can be used to address not only Hinrich without anything at all given to the Bulls but you also gain the flexibility to add a veteran C like Haywood. Thus you don't hurt the teams current title run, but improve it.

Bynum is the future of this team just be patient we have seen flashes of brilliance from him he will get it together and do it on a more consistent basis just have patience with him he is still young, I mean it could be worse we could have Oden on our team instead who was a bust the day he got drafted lool

Well Bynum isn't really an option on this team so avg 15 and 8 is pretty good considering he barely gets touches, when he becomes a main option in a couple years he is going to dominate the league
