I doubt they will try to dump him and will move him to anyone willing to be a "taker." And I hope they don't move him.

Yabs may never make it in the NBA. And looking at the 2016 draft, a lot of first rounders will probably never amount to much, so Yabs would be no exception if he fails, too.

But his skills and athletic gifts and size are so clear at such a young age--and the combination so rare-- it seems the smart course to keep him and see if he can be developed. The upside is very high if everything comes together. The rap against him is that he has yet to play against a high level of competition. Well he just turned 21 and he can get plenty of higher grade competition next year. Then we will see what we have got here. And if he flops, so what? He will be as good as most anyone else we could have taken at 16. Henry Ellenson, anyone? If other teams value Yabs enough to offer us something of real value, that suggests to me that others are seeing what the Cs see and it is wise to keep him. If no one offers much for him, there is no reason to move him.

For the record, Yabs is totally dominating in China and that is all we can ask of him. He is also getting better as the season progresses. His last few games have been scorchers. When Marcus Thornton (2015 2nd round pick) put up mediocre numbers in Australia last year (and in Italy this year) it established that he was not NBA material. Well, Yabs has been anything but mediocre. He is ready for the NBA come fall 2017.

By the way, Brandon Bass has had a solid NBA career as a rotation big. Yabs is bigger, stronger and has much better hands than Brandon Bass. Yabs has made more 3 point baskets in the past two weeks than Bass has made in his 12 year, 731 game NBA career. Bass is nicknamed "No Pass" Bass because of his tunnel vision on the floor; Yabs will never get a nickname like that based on what we have seen in China so far. If Yabs can be a Brandon Bass who can consistently shoot and make three-pointers he is well worth keeping around. I think his upside is considerably higher.

But that remains to be seen, and a year from now he may join Jordan Mickey in the broken dreams category. But let's keep Yabs and find out in the next couple of years what we have.

No thank you. If they can find someone to give a first round pick this year I jump all over it. I don't know what you guys see in this kid. He's a total zero on defense and spends 75% of his time camped beyond the arc like over the hill Antoine Walker. So what if he's dominating China. They play better defense in the D league for crying out loud

Yabs is doing everything we could hope for in China. We do not know what the D being played in China is. Austin Ainge and the scouts who have covered Yabs in China (quoted in Keith Smith's piece) all said that he is conforming to what is done there, and he is not a concern defensively. Austin Ainge said he may develop into a solid defender. The tools are there, and by all accounts he has a high basketball IQ.

If someone offers no. 1 pick for Yabs, that would firm my resolve to keep him. And I doubt anyone will offer a 2017 no. 1 for Yabs, unless it is near the end of the first round. This is a very deep outstanding draft.

We keep Yabusele.

Until and unless there is a reason not to. And there isn't.

I didn't know where to put this, but the Maine Red Claws picked up Ryan Kelly, Again.

He seems like a guy to have around in case we make a big trade and need deep bench depth.

Ryan Kelly = Poor man's Kelly Olynyk = Poor Man's Al Horford.

I'd take the pick as well. His height is the big thing for me. Yes, Draymond Green is short, but he's also rare. And we're undersized at so many other positions too. If he's a beast and grabs rebounds galore, great. But, last thing we need is another 3 point shooting "big" who can't rebound or defend the paint. I haven't watched any of his games, so maybe he does those things, which would be great. But, if he doesn't, I'm all about flipping the asset.

Bingo

We may have all been mentally and emotionally scarred by the Olynyk experience over the last few years, but 3 point shooting bigs and defence/rebounding are not mutually exclusive. He might not get a lot of offensive rebounds being camped on the three point line, but (like Walker) could be a solid defensive rebounder which is what this team needs.

Again, hard to tell too much from the competition, but I also don't see a zero on defensive end, he is a big solid body with great footwork and agility for his size. And one thing you see in these highlights is more of an above the rim component to his game he didn't show in Summer League which at the time made me think he might struggle in the NBA. He is obviously not the second coming of Charles Barkley (yet  ), or else he would probably be on the team now getting 20 minutes a game, but I think there is definitely some interesting potential there. And it's good he is playing so well out there, as Elrod mentioned, it would be concerning if he was putting up poor numbers against weaker competition.

Agreed. That's the key for me, though. If he can defend and especially rebound, he could be a useful bench player for sure. It's just how likely is that given his frame and mindset. I profess general ignorance. Almost 9 rb/game in 29 minutes with a quick look at stats seems good, but who knows how that translates in the NBA. But, if we can get another 1st in a supposedly loaded draft this year (esp when the bigs will be on the board later with all the guards getting the hype), I'd be willing to risk losing his potential for someone else's. Don't hate the guy or anything, just not opposed to trading him either.

I hope Yabusele is working hard and enjoying himself. He's on a good team and the fans seem to love him. And he plays it up for the crowd-- a bit of a showman, eh?

He'll be in for a bit of a rude awakening when he gets to the NBA, as it's coming so easy for him now. Nevertheless, he has some translatable skills. I think he's going to have a decent NBA career and hope it's with the Celtics.

The above the rim stuff is what is more impressive/surprising to me. he's playing with a lot of confidence so that is good to see.

Day by day it looks Danny had phenomenal 2016 draft. Zizic is solid Adriatic league in now in Turkish league +Euroleague showed he can play. Yabu imo should not go to China, but at least he is producing, still league where jimmer Is averaging 40 can not be taken seriously. Hope when season is over there he goes to Europe for 2 months in strong league.

Still imo at least we drafted 2 rotation players what is great for 2nd half of first round.

Jackson had 6p-5r-4a-4s on 2/15 shooting (0/5 from 3) in the win vs. Bulls. He's now been recalled by the Celtics.

Just looking at how little the rookies are producing this year(bigs especially) I'm having a harder time understanding the complaints.

Thanks for posting the highlights again CrowderKeg!

The stats that Yabs is putting up is great. But what I'm more impressed with is his hussle on both ends. Also his handles look really good especially for a big his size. His shooting also looks good and should translate to the NBA good. His form and high release on his shot is what I really love. I also like his willingness to make the extra pass.

If KO had Yabs high release he would be easily average 15-20 points a game instead of 8-10.

Really good signs from Yabs, Zizic and Nader.

Nader looks really good guys.

His shooting, handles, ability to drive and finish, his passing are all very impressive. He has been really working on his game.

From Chris Reichert, who follows the D-League closely:
"Just watched Maine's last game and they're letting Abdel Nader run the point more & more. Love it. He can handle well.
Nader is definitely gettin teammates involved more of late.

First 12 games had 1 with 5+ assists
Last 6 games had 5 with 5+ assists"

A 3-2-1. Nice. He'll be real valuable if he can play those positions.
