Let's keep it 100, how many even had hardaway on their radar before we gave him an offer? I didnt see nobody posting "oh man look let's try and sign Hardaway from the hawks".
But now since he a knick and we gave him that lame contract y'all wanna paint him a new picture and overrate him
Gtfo. He's a good player may have even improved but ain't worth 71 mill. Hope he earns his check though

We didn't have interest in anybody that I'm aware of. Easier for fans to say than GMs to do. Just sit tight and let the cap dictate every decision. I prefer that too, in theory, but it's unrealistic. And I'm not surprised they're making moves to add players. Griffin would do the same.

horrible, just horrible
...this signing makes no sense....better off to just have taken carroll and pick to use up the cap space...this whole FO needs to go, the Jackson stench has rubbed off on everyone the wrong way...let Griffin come in with his staff, need all new fresh blood in the FO

Right. Because Mills and the Knicks FO were never signing guys to too much money before Jackson.

I think Tony Snell got 48M, Timmy is a much better player.
Hawks fan here: it was reported at the start of FAcy that Hawks had an $11-$13 mil/per year cap on THjr., so the max from Hawks would have been $52 million over 4 years. NYK exceeded that by $19 million.
As a player, he improved his game as a Hawk, was still inconsistent at times with questionsble shot selections especially from 3 point range. He excelled in the PnR midrange game and driving the ball. Was more athletic than we expected.
His defense was non-existent when he joined the Hawks that's why he spent the first part of his Hawks tenure as DNP-CD. I can now say, he has some defense but still leaves you wanting more. His rebounding and assists still needs works.
Will he keep working on his defense or will he revert back to only focusing on his offense?
Enjoy the Timmy- shimmy.

This is the only thing I didn't like about the deal. This has been a pattern for the Knicks no matter who's in charge. We're constantly overpaying and outbidding teams that wouldn't have done so. I thought 4/60 was good enough. I think the Hawks would have matched if it was a bit close to 52 though. But oh well, at least he's not a bad player. Not gonna complain.

Let's be real. The Knicks are unjustifiably arrogant. They keep pulling these stupid **** moves where they think they're playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers, yet, said moves rarely if ever pan out. It's why they get clowned so much by the media and deservedly so.
Timothy does nothing for your rebuild and if he plays up to the contract, that's a max in three years as opposed to four, if he doesn't that's a 19 million dollar albatross. It's a no win contract.

If the Hawks didn't already have Bazemore at 4/$70 from last year, they would have more than likely matched THjr. They just couldn't justify having $30+ million tied up in 2 average SGs.

How dare you play word games with me (old married couple outrage). He won't replace him but they're worried about scoring with Melo being shown the door. For $18M, so about 70% or whatever of what Melo makes, THJ can carry about 50-70% of the scoring burden Melo carried.
Tanking for KP, Willy sounds good and could work, but it could also start to seriously regress their ability to play basketball with some effectiveness on the court.
timmy has never played the number one option role. that was milsap. it's a lot harder than it looks. in general, not just you, i don't think people really appreciate the talent that melo has for scoring. my hope is that kp has developed enough that he can do what you are expecting timmy to do and carry that burden. because timmy is not really built for it. it would be like making jr smith your number one option.
I actually agree with this and was typing a long post similar to yours.
Wait...71 mill is not lead scoring option money. That's 3rd scoring option money. If he were a clear number 1, he'd be making a starting salary of 25mill/year. KP is our number one now... like he should be.

How many contracts are justified in the NBA, especially
In the past 3 years?
Everybody knew the hawks would match any offer from 45-50 million, so the knicks went past it and got the guy they wanted.
Don't let the media tell you it's to much money, every player in the NBA is getting paid big at least the guy the knicks paid actually has a chance to be better and grow with the other young players

The Carroll trade doesn't work for us, if you knew a thing or two about the cap

The offer sheet thread was 80% negative and this thread is 80% positive.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -

2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
