Wants $15-16mil. If he gets it from someone then wish him the best. If he doesn't get it from teams and teams offer $8-10mil then he'll probably take the QO and try and get a big pay day next offseason.

I've had like 0 connections for like 9 years now, but I've been saying that for months now. Sure he wants 15m, but he won't be offered 15m, and he'll probably just double down on himself on the QO. Just common sense.

Pacers rumors make a whole lot of sense. They needed a bench and he'd give them a veteran PG (leader) to go with Holliday, Leaf, Sabonis, and Jefferson. They're building something special that would make them a top 3 team in the East. Besides us, the Pacers is just about the best fit for him.

If the Mavs strike out at marquee free agents, I could see them offering generous deals to both Marcus & Aron Baynes.

Nobody is going to take on long term salary for second tier FA's right now. Cap Space is at a premium, if DAL strikes out in FA they can tack on somebody else's stinky in exchange for draft picks, there is a lot of bad money out there if you want you don't have to make your own.

If you sign Smart to a one year deal then he still has a no trade clause though technically he should be able to preserve his Bird Rights in a trade. That said he can't be traded until Jan 15, 2019 so you are essentially buying a one month window to use him as a trade asset with his approval not a great financial decision. In the end i am not sure it is worth all that much more than just letting him accept the QO.

I think this is important. We make all the Trader Danny jokes and we move these guys like stocks all the time but I think the team genuinely tries to foster a family atmosphere. In the end it is a business, and so the family atmosphere can cause hurt feelings like it did with IT.

That said I think the team knows Marcus is a great kid and is going through a tough time with his Mom and this isn't going to be the FA experience he dreamed of. I think it was a really nice touch to put his name on his locker in the new building. What might make the most sense is for the team to offer him a 5 year deal starting at 9 mil with 8% raises. That is a little more than the MLE and basically it means if Marcus is going to test the market it is for a cap space contract. The problem is that I think the team offered him more than that last off season at least in talks and he didn't bite. But even with that I think a 45-50 mil offer is fair and doesn't make him have to get an offer sheet.

It's certainly possible Smart will take the QO, but if I were him, given how often he gets injured, and that this is his first chance at a real payday, I'd be more than okay with 4 years 40 Mil.

Agreed. He really should take the best offer he can get this year provided he can get something around 4/40 . Unless he all of a sudden shoots much much better next year I don’t see him getting a better offer next year... for his sake I hope he learns from how playing on the QO has worked out for players in the recent past.

I can not see a team offering 12-14 million. Indiana maybe its the only posibility BUT they have a lot of guards...and if Young does not out out Im not sure how much cap space they will have.
Dallas is posibillity only if they make a Mathews for Jordan trade...would be left with a cap room, again Im not sure how big cap room.

We will see, but imo he takes QO.

I'm okay w/ the cap stuff, not great.

I got Indiana having $12.3mil in cap by ...
- Thad Young & Cory Joseph opt in (Joseph already did).
- Decline Joe Young & renounce him (I think they declined his option already too).
- Waived Poythress
- Renounced Moore, Booker & Lance.

Basically they could sign Smart & still hav Glenn Robinson III's cap hold to resign him.

Orr .. Waive & stretch Al Jeff & renounce GRob & they'd have $21.6mil to spend.

Say they sign Smart to 54/4. Still have almost $10mil left & have a rotation of ..

Collison - Oladipo - Bogs - Young - Turner - Joseph - Smart - Sabonis

Think they can be an Ariza spot? 4yr/42.6mil deal? he said he wanted 5/50 right? Use the MLE on Mike Beasley?

Collison - Oladipo - Ariza - Young - Turner
Joseph - Smart - Bogs - Beasley - Sabonis
Holiday - ? - ? - Leaf - Anigbogu

They'd be pretty damn good.

^^

Nevermind.

I guess Indiana's going after Aaron Gordon for $20+mil.

So that should take out a Smart suitor. I got Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Sacramento, Phoenix left that can go after Smart.

Don't think Dallas will go after him. Between Doncic & Brunson.. they need a center bad.

Chi, Atl, Sac, Phx. The Suns make a lot of sense. They can clear like $15mil for him. Could go all things Booker won't in a starting PG role? We shall see.

Orlando will match though right? Then Indy is right back as a Smart suitor.

I think Orlando would match 20 million a year.. I still think they end up with Barton over Smart

Yep. Two words for Smart: Nerlens Noel.

I love Smart on the Pacers and would hope they'd run a lot of 3 guard lineups if they got him, especially since Smart can guard 1-4 for the most part. Collison-Oladipo-Smart-Sabonis-Turner is a really legit lineup with good spacing and defensive versatility.

Thad young picked up his option, so less room for the Pacers to go after Smart.

Who else is proud of our boy, out breaking real NBA news? Also, has Smitty stopped being a Mod? I've been working so may have missed something.
