I think we can agree these signings are better than our signings the past 12 years

Manocad wrote:So if Westbrook is "rumored" to be traded to the Pistons, where does his $38.5M salary fit in? With Blake and Dre? Because I don't see that happening and if one of them has to be moved I don't see the point. Without a doubt I can see Blake, Dre and Westbrook being a force, but that means a lot of other players have to go as well.
That's the problem. It would almost have to include a 3rd team to acquire one of BG or Dre unless we absolutely want to gut our entire roster and just run vet min to G league guys all of which are now being absorbed by the Lakers and Clippers. Is that even worth it? Our cap sheet would start with 43 million, 32 million, and 25 million alone for our so called big 3. That's insane to try to build a team around with very little moves you can do.

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
So let's say the deal is Jackson, Doumbouya, Galloway, Brown, Maker, 2020 unprotected 1st rounder, 2022 unprotected 1st rounder
Our squad looks like this:
Westbrook/Rose
Kennard/Thomas
Snell/???
Griffin/Morris
Drummond
Beautiful!

Theoretically if we can wait a month, we could just trade snell, Langston and Reggie.
The “only” thing we’d need is a vet min wing like a Justin Holiday/Andersen

Or let's think bigger. Maybe Andre Iguodola?

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
Drummond, Snell, RJ, Galloway & ONE unprotected 2020 first for Westbrook and Adams
Sign Jabari Parker for the minimum
Westbrook - Rose - Frazier
Brown - Thomas
Kennard - Svi - Sekou - Sirv
Griffin - Parker
Adams - Kieff - Thon
There's your 14
Might not win a championship but would surely be more interesting

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
I'll go on record as being against trading multiple assets for Westbrook. I'm only considering a deal if its expiring contracts and next years first. No Kennard, no Sekou. If they insist, move on as it's not like Westbrook creates a championship core.

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
I don't know if I'd ask for a Adams/Drummond swap: Dre would be a good weapon to catch offensive rebounds out of Russ' bricks... Better than Adams. However, Adams would provide better defense/attitude, would ask for a cheaper contract and would be OK to stay in his role.

Nah, you need Adams to block out so Russ can get his rebound numbers. Dre wouldn't agree to give up rebounds to keep Russ happy.

Part of me would rather have Chris Paul. Shorter contract (lines up with Blake) and a better shooter and better at creating for his teammates. Paul, Lowry, or even Marcus Smart might all be guys I'd rather target over Westbrook.

In a vacuum I might sorta agree. I prefer CP3 as a player to Westbrook. But at that point arent we just worse Clippers? Feels bad man lolbstein14 wrote:Part of me would rather have Chris Paul. We've been a poor man's Clippers ever since we traded for Blake IMO. Our rosters aren't that far off in terms of eerily similar looks.

I’d be willing to give up Kennard and 20 or 20 + 22.

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
For those remembering the Westbrook of yesterday, Zach Lowe said Westbrooks contract is seen as the second WORST contract in the NBA given his declining production and expected decline moving forward. John Wall is seen as the worst one.
No smart GM is giving away any young assets or multiple 1st round picks for that. If Gores just pushes for it to sell seats, I guarantee the people clamoring for him now will want him gone by mid season. He will have the occasional flash games, but overall his game now a days is not what people think it is... Most people on here just see random highlights and not all the other things that wins and loses games. 29% 3 pt/42% from field and also he shot 65% from the FT line last year. This is not something get you a #3 seed or wins playoff series. Ask the OKC fans of recent playoffs...and he had Paul George who had an MVP like season. We don't have anything like that...

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
Oh I love this post. You dont really watch games, you only see highlights. Pistons dont have anything like paul george(blake and andre apparently dont exists)hes declining (only 30 years old)smart GM's wouldnt make this move(every other teams gm is smarter somehow)pistonpat wrote:For those remembering the Westbrook of yesterday, Zach Lowe said Westbrooks contract is seen as the second WORST contract in the NBA given his declining production and expected decline moving forward. Yeah, I would live to sit at 30-42 wins for yet another damn decade when the team has a chance to upgrade a position with an MVP player.
Gotta take a chance at some point, and we have two all-NBA players to build around. At some point you gotta just do it.
I'm sick of the alternative.

Zach Lowe will call Riley a genius though if Miami trades for him.

Re: Trade for Westbrook?
Miami is known for its discipline.
Riley rules the Heat.
Russ could work in Miami, because he lacks bball IQ and discipline. Also they have Jimmy Butler to take leadership of the team on the floor.
However, the Pistons and Russ won't go anywhere at all. To give up the future for an aging horrible contract that can't win with several all-nba wings in a wings league is beyond dumb! Then to tell him to run into the paint the same place where Blake and Dre prefer to operate. Nonsense low-IQ move.

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
