what's burks cap hold? Maybe that's the difference between your numbers?

The reporter did not use cap holds in his simulation. He has said that keeping Cap Holds would reduce the cap space left.

Anyway, Burks is a no bird player. His cap hold is useless to a cap-spaced team. We cant give any salary higher than his cap hold.

Pretty sure we can just renounce Frank and we’ll be fine. He has the largest cap hold

I'm assuming that number is with just with keeping those three guys cap holds cuz realistically we're probably going to want to keep them. It's definitely going to be interesting to see what our plan is this offseason now.

Depends on this series too. If we make it close or win it the FO will likely try to keep more of the core together. Certain players (Burks and Rose) played like they wanted to be paid...... the rest not so much

I mentioned these lesser known guys that may be worth a look late at some point in the other thread...

moocow007 wrote:I would expect the Knicks to package the picks in a trade to acquire an established talent.

But some interesting under the radar, not the usual suspects type of guys that could be options with the later pick if they declare or for the Knicks to draft and stash are...

Andre Curbelo - Illini freshman and Big Ten 6MOY...this kid has elite court vision and is arguably one of the most talented passers in college basketball. He has a none stop motor on both ends of the floor, defends the passing lanes and has great ball control skills. His shooting is a problem but I don't get the sense of watching him play that it's not something he cant improve on. He plays bigger than his 6'1"-6'2" frame on account of his long arms and wirey strength, but this kid is just a baller (speaking of which his passing ability reminds me of the Ball brothers):

Mojave King - he's the "other Aussie" prospect...a long super athletic physically gifted young player with a lot of skill and upside. Can pass, can run the floor, can lead breaks, can be a trailer and finish...and he's one of the best international shooters from deep. From what I've read he wants to stay and play in Australia for a bit. May be worth using one of those picks for his draft rights as a draft and stash. I believe he qualifies for this draft.

Assuming we keep Luca, Peele, and FRP picks, we would have 10 players under contract. If we get 3 players with the remaining cap space (+52-55M), we don't need to concern about Minimum Roster Charges. Anyway, I think it's very unlikely we don't keep Reggie and Rose.

You still need to account for those holds until signing someone with your capspace.

Ok. With 2 Holds, we would have 50-53M left.

we only lose ~300k after winning the tiebreakers, no big deal

2,770,560 (pick 19) + 2,553,120 (pick 21) = 5,323,680

vs

2,659,560 (pick 20) + 2,353,320 (pick 23) = 5,012,880

I say keep both picks. I don't think either pick would fetch a vet worthwhile enough

would consider moving up to get Bouknight but at 19 I feel pretty confident we can get 1 of Mann, Thomas, Bouknight, Moody

There are some interesting names that could be in our range.

Mann, Giddey, Ziare, Ayo, BJ, Springer, and Butler.

We should be able to grab a quality backup big with our second rounder too.

If he's there he's a good pick. I think we'd have to move up for him (or Bouknight), which I'd be ok with.

Any fans of Sengun? He looks talented, though maybe another Goga...

I'm not so sure about that bolded statement

Rose, I think, has been playing like a guy glad to be on a well run team (this years Knicks), run by a coach he likes and admires and UNDERSTANDS. Who he knows understands him. I might be wrong, since money is money, but I don't think Rose is "big contract hunting" and is more likely to be glad to come back to a coach and team he likes, as long as the offer is fair and not insulting. Just conjecture on my part, but Rose seems to have embraced the mentor vet/2nd unit/not the star, and the pay that goes with it, for this phase of his career.
I'd think his contract looks pretty similar to his current one.
He got 7.5 for 2 years with the Pistons.

Knicks should go 8.5 for 2 years.

Burks is important, because until RJ (if/when) gets his sh*t together in terms of having a complete wing game, Burks is the only wing (if we don't put PG's there) that can create his own shot at a high level, and also at 3 levels.
He'll really depend on what the Knicks think they can do and what $ it will take to upgrade the starting wing next to RJ, where if Burks commands 12 million + on the open market, it might give the Knicks pause, since that might ruin plans for "Max Cat Wing" and other pieces they might need.

Or, the Knicks might be satisfied with a Rose/Kildozer PG tandem, pay Burks, and have money left over to slot in that disgruntled wing or whatever the plan is to address the team's most obvious need.

I guess if the Knicks are looking long term, there are 3 cheap young players they might need to replace. I'm not arguing about their merits, just that there 3 cheap, cost controlled players who might be leaving the team in the next 2 years. Obviously all of them don't have to be replaced at once, nor via the draft, though that's the best place to find the cheapest young talent, though again, not the only place.

Frank
Knox
Mitch

Again, there are large cadres of fans who could give less than two sh*ts if Frank and Knox are replaced, just pointing out a smart team would be trying to plug in rookie scale players into those spots.

There is smaller cadre of fans, basically NoDopeOnSundays in number, who think Mitch is a rim runner and could care less if he leaves.

A benefit would be that since Frank and Knox have been so disappointing drafted around 8th, that they can wind up with 2 players that are better but cost 2 million less per year each, for a savings for 4 million. Mitch's production at his cost harder to find, but Knicks were able to find skinny sh*tty Mitch for 4 million, so who knows.

Knicks have Obi and IQ under contract for 3 more years and at least Obi showed some signs late in the year.
Knicks will definitely draft 1 player.
Maybe picks get moved in a trade for a "disgruntled" and/or a move up. I still think one player gets drafted somehow.
