It was interesting seeing everybody lose their minds over Kidd as coach, but Kidd as POBO w/ compensation is 10x worse...

No. He never had those titles, but he was a powerful coach and had a lot of sway. He often bumped heads with his respective GMs because of it.

But the Knicks didn't hire phil Jackson to be RC Buford. They hired Phil Jackson for his rolodex and his star power. When you think of Phil Jackson you think of 11 rings or Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant.

Jason Kidd is not Phil Jackson in any way shape or form.

i realize that last part, i was just wondering.

really wish we knew what role we were offering kidd.

I don't agree that Phil Jackson was hired because of his connections and "Worldwide Wes" persona. He has never been those things. Phil was hired because of his track record of merging and melting egos in to a team concept. Now I don't think he is going to touch any more trophies unless he gets a Shaq, Kobe, or MJ type player. But its not like Dolan thought Phil was going to wine and dine guys and build a contender in one offseason. They tried that route with Donnie Walsh, who actually is a tough talking BSer. In the process of missing out on LeBron and landing Amare... they got humbled a little and realized that simply being the Knicks wasn't the draw they thought.

This time around they went a little bit of a different route, and thought Phil would talk in strange zen quotes and change the day to day focus and approach of the organization. He also has connections to the all time most beloved Knick team and Knick coach.

I can't think up a scenario where this doesn't end badly. I hope it doesn't ruin Jabari in the process.

I'm not doing jumping jacks over Kidd, either. However, in the context of "ruining Jabari in the process" ... how in the hell could Kidd (or anyone else) be any less beneficial to Jabari's development than Larry Drew??? Drew is a good guy, nothing against him. But, he sure doesn't strike me as a coach who is going to directly contribute to Jabari being awesome. I'm completely against Kidd getting the GM and coaching hat. If it's just coach, I see no reason that he could be any worse than what we have now.

I'll never be entirely satisfied until Don Nelson is back as coach. Which, won't happen, because he's 74. Driving him out was the absolute worst thing Kohl ever did. Horrendous mistake. We've had exactly ONE "above average" or "pretty good" coach since 1988 and that was George Karl. All the others? No thanks.

Done that before. His name was John Hammond.

If (more like when) we bring him in I would want him to coach as well at this point. If we are going to give up picks just for some oversight on our team I wouldn't like it.

Just make him coach as well. Give him a shot there.
God is good.

I want to roll this thread over to the poll thread. Interested to gauge how we feel on this statistically.
