That disaster of an offseason (one that saw a 44 win up and coming playoff team go back to 32 or whatever wins and lose all momentum):

Draft:
Noah Vonleh
PJ Hairson

Free Agency:
Lance Stephenson
Marvin Williams
Brian Roberts
Jason Maxiell

All of which are either gone or won't be in the rotation. Thats the #9th and #24th picks, and 20 million in cap space.

I want to kill. It could have been Hayward + Hood.

Cho had no say in that. He gave Hayward the biggest contract possible and Utah matched. Hood was gone at 23 with us picking 24th.

I know, just saying what could have been. Both near misses, beyond his control. His contingency plan sucked ass.

Lin does have fans and is a magnet of interest. So far it has been mostly positive so look like he made the right choice coming to Charlotte.

FWIW, Sports Illustrated graded the signing as B+, saying that their concern is that Lin's style of PnR play is counter to the Hornet's existing system of Alfense. But Lin did say that Cliff promised him he'd get to run PnR's. So I don't know if that was just recruitment sunshine or if Cliff means to change the way the team works.

Has anyone been able to pin down the status of the 2nd year, if it's a player option (as many suspect) or not? Who are the usual sources to go to for leaks and confirmation and insider info for the Hornets? Slick Rick seems to be held in low esteem and behind the curve on breaking news, so probably not him, right?

Literally no one, as evidenced by the fact that we were targeting Lin, had arranged meetings between him and Cliff, and still no one knew we were even interested until Lin himself announced his decision.

Nothing gets out of our FO unless our FO wants it to for strategic reasons (announcing interest in S&T for MoWill, announcing interest in Belinelli pre-July 1, etc.).

Ainge bashed our FO for some alleged proposals that he leaked, and our FO didn't respond and no one knows what was really even offered. They just don't care to let people know what is going on.

Wow, is Lin trying to shore up his D and TOs? Bootcamping himself?

That's an interesting way to look at it. I wonder if helping to make Lin a better player was part of the Cliff sales pitch. He's improved on weaknesses every year in his quest to be a better player, as we saw in this article:

http://www.jlinportal.com/why-jeremy-lin-will-be-a-good-nba-player-whichever-team-he-lands/

I wonder if he is indeed hoping to shore up those areas by working under Cliff.

That's good that they run a tight ship. But not sure why confirming or denying the status of the 2nd year is such a closely guarded secret. They introduced Lin and held a presser but then declined to state the terms of the deal to the press

My initial guess would be that they might give him the full MLE if they strike out on who they are targeting, but he already signed his contract so whatever it is much be final. I bet literally no one besides Lin, his agent, and our FO know for sure and everyone else is just guessing without direct knowledge.

Nothing beats the original Cathouse thread. That thread had an insane number of page views and for good reason. Shocked the LadyCats/HoneyBees thread isnt #2 all-time.

Just saw on /r/nba that it is a player option, as I expected. Signing for two years at that price would have been stupid for Lin.

I just bumped the original Cathouse thread. It has 183,000 page views. That's nuts for a forum with this level of traffic.

Figures. Well, if he likes Charlotte and Clifford/Cho as much as he suggested on his FB post, then we should have a good shot at resigning him next year to a fair contract, assuming he plays up to expectations.

new member here, I am a Lin fan. at first I wasn't too excited about the Hornets, since I do not know anything about them but after reading that him and the coach seem like it better fit than his old coaches I grew optimistic. Plus, the board seems pretty friendly.

As for his reasons to join Charlotte - I think as someone said, maybe he did not want the spotlight nor the high expectations. Now he has gone from overrated to underrated. Glad he made a decision for himself and not for the money or glory.I expect and hope lin to get around 28 minutes.

My thoughts about Kemba - I thought he improved a lot last season? I know some people comment on his overall career FG but wasn't his last season pretty good? I don't follow him but I did look him up at one point.

Also, can someone give me the quick breakdown about Al? Seems to me the board generally dislikes him lol, why is that?

Look forward to watching hornets games, and also HAPPY that I don't have to stay up late to watch those atrocious laker games.

We should have no problem finding money to resign Batum, Lin, MKG (extension) + at least one max level player next summer.

Biggest question will be if we can convince Batum to stay. I am sure he will have several equally lucrative offers from playoff teams chasing him.

Kemba was having a career year (at least from December til mid January) before he got hurt and had to have knee surgery. Kemba really struggled with his FG% after he came back in March. There is a long standing joke about December Kemba - who is an all-star level player.

we are an incredibly optimistic bunch. it's always butterflies, puppies, and rainbows. you'll love everyone here

He'll be here for one season- it's a typical rehabilitation of market value contract- and I expect he'll be pretty good here.

My thoughts about Kemba - I thought he improved a lot last season? I know some people comment on his overall career FG but wasn't his last season pretty good? I don't follow him but I did look him up at one point.

It's pretty mixed. He looked like he was having a breakout year when he caught fire in December and January, but then had knee surgery and wasn't the same for the rest of the year.

Also, can someone give me the quick breakdown about Al? Seems to me the board generally dislikes him lol, why is that?

No defense, holds on to the ball too much, stems the flow of the game, doesn't set screens, isn't a certain African 22-year-old with a 7'7 wingspan, inconsistent conditioning, etc. We'd much rather have a defender or a shooter in his place.

Look forward to watching hornets games, and also HAPPY that I don't have to stay up late to watch those atrocious laker games.

If our games started at 10:30, I wouldn't have watched many last year either.
