McGee clone with less mental errors/higher BBIQ is a pretty damn good player, excellent value @ 36

I'm not sure it's possible to have lower bbIQ than McGee.
He may have a ring but I'll never forget these clips.

We will see. Traditionally, you get a round 2 player and you’re happy with a solid rotation piece. You know I’m high on McGee. Maybe Jarrett Allen type works as well. I remember everyone called Allen awkward and out of it last year as well.

Dont love the way he comes across during interviews, not a big deal though.

I just wanna see him play. Its important for him to play in summer league and play as much as possible. Its fair to question if he really loves the game, fair to question if he is up to play against legit competition. I understand not going to school, school isnt for everyone so thats whatever to me. But dont like the decision of flat out not playing overseas or in the G-League or even straight up pick up basketball here and there. Kinda screams laziness too me.

Kid has some talent, but even if you can block shots left and right doesnt make you a good defender. Ala Whiteside. I wanna see if has legit defensive instincts and proper positioning.

I believe in Fizdale. I feel he can get the most out of this kid and get him into shape. All else is up to Mitchell. He just needs to accept the criticism and willing to be coached. Mitchell can get a good handful of easy buckets if he just runs hard on every fastbreak. Should be a major threat on the break w/ that type of athleticism.

See thats been your problem since he was drafted. You keep trying to peg him as a second round pick. HE IS NOT a Second round pick in Talent. he was considered TOP TEN. And best beleive if he went to college, or what I really think HURT him,was that he could not participate in the combine, cause of Injury. He was already a mystery, and that was the last chance for most teams to really get a good idea of him.

Knicks got a player who if not for some for some unseen circumstances was EASILY a lotto pick in this draft. EASILY.

Another reason why you know the Knicks are high on him. Cause they Flew him in secretly. I dont remember Robinson coming in for any meeting dinners etc. They made sure the media knew nothing about his visit.. They KNEW any interest in him would prob cause him to get picked before they could pick him if he did slip out the first round.

Knicks wanted Mitchell Bad. They did it real smooth and stealth like.

Kudos to Perry and Mills on this move.

It was more he got barred from playing. He wanted to transfer schools but he would be barred from playing for a year. Obviously he didn't want to do that because at the time he was ranked as a 1st round pick. He couldn't go to the G-league because of rules about playing in the NCAA first. The only option was going overseas but he probably wouldn't get much playing time in Euro basket. His only options really were stay home or maybe a lesser international league like China. Giving how young/naive he is going international probably would not work out for him. Staying home and working on his body and skills with AD's trainer is probably the best he could do with the situation he found himself in.

I wouldve sworn some kid a few yrs ago skipped college and decided to play in the G-League instead. He wasnt highly ranked or anything though.

The G-League only requires you to be 18 yrs old. Playing in the NCAA isnt a requirement.

If he was under 18 and couldnt play in the G-League, it makes it easier to understand why he didnt play anywhere else.

If Perry/Mills proactively kept it secret so as not to attract attention, then things may be looking up for this organization. That would be a Spurs/Celtics type move. Time will tell, but for me, just from the eye test, this kid has me more hyped than anyone in the past few decade, Porzingis included!!! And that's taking nothing away from Kristaps.

He's 7'1" and runs like a gazelle. He will prove plenty useful for this team. Will need to add strength, but he should be solid defensively and will be a good threat on pick n roll.

He's not as clumsy....there's more finesse to his body control. He shoots a 3ball too so he's not a spacing spoiler. In a limited role he might actually open some eyes his rookie season with his natural ability.

I don’t know about “EASILY.” Who would he have gone before in the lottery?

He is still a mystery having not played or competed in a year. Seven footers dominating in HS doesn’t really give a true indication of how they stack up against next level competition. I watched his highlights and from what I can gather is that he has potential because he’s athletic. Not sure about his IQ or activity when not involved. He appeared to stand around in some vids I watched.

There's a jacked rule where a player can't play in the G if they've been enrolled in a college the same year so that prevented him. Going overseas isn't always the best option for some kids I guess, especially considering how socially awkward he is. I think in the long run it's not an indictment on his character or commitment.

He had some dominant play in the EYBL which is playing against most of the players that were just in this draft and was among the leaders in rb% block% and had the top 2pt at 73%. You should check out some of the workout videos posted in this thread, it's easy to see the progress in his game from his HS film.

I looked at these highlights and see he has work to do. Doesn’t box out and watches when he should contest at times. A good project for Fizdale.
