Re: 2022-23 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.1)
Rankings change:
1. Luka
2. Giannis
3. Tatum
I can no longer ignore the historic start to the season that Luka's having. He's playing at the level of Harden's 2018-2019 season, one of the best in NBA history. He may even eclipse Harden by the end of the year.
He's doing this as a flawed player(ie. he's got even another gear he can reach). The other guys around him have reached their peak.
The Bucks only have one loss, but Luka is playing at a level right now that makes it impossible for me to rank Giannis ahead of him right now.

Re: 2022-23 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.1)
if bucks keep their winning rate up then I think it has to be Giannis, but the reason a 70 win season is impressive is that's it's really hard to maintain that consistency. 72-10 is waaaaaay harder than 9-1, so until the bucks record truly represents a level of historical greatness it's Doncic for me.
when/if the bucks move into the 40-5 or 6 territory then I think you start seeing giannis make this a one horse race.

Still way too early.
"Wes, Hill, Ibaka, Allen, Nwora, Brook, Pat, Ingles, Khris are all slow-mo, injury prone ... a sandcastle waiting for playoff wave to get wrecked. A castle with no long-range archers... is destined to fall. That is all I have to say."-- FOTIS

Re: 2022-23 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.1)
Giannis actually has a knee problem. He is out again tonight after looking terrible physically against the Hawks.
It's not mere load management because Jrue is also out with a ankle sprain so we will basically play OKC without our 3 best players.
Luka takes the lead.

Luka wasn't efficient in 1'st Quarter tonight. 6/17 from the field.

He is 8/22 in first half. Luckily Magic aren't doing good offensively.

I wouldn't use this game against Luka. He is playing the Magic in an unusual time due to Hurricane Nicole. I bet a lot of gametime routines/digestive patterns are messed up due to this.
The Greatest of All Time debate in basketball is essentially who has the greatest basketball resume of the player who has the best highlights instead of who is the best player

Re: 2022-23 NBA MVP Discussion (Pt.1)
Luka came in with 5 minutes to go and single handedly lost the game.
Took almost all the shots, bricked them or gave up some hot potatos and at the other side kept fouling random guys to send them to the FT line.
Bad night.

Can't have Tatum that high. Can't put him over Jokic or Curry and there's a fairly substantial gap between Tatum and those two.
Before tonight
Luka: 36.0 PER .356 WS/48 BPM 13.5 VORP 1.3
Giannis 32.0 PER .287 WS/48 BPM 11.5 VORP 1.0
Curry 30.1 PER .272 WS/48 10.9 BPM VORP 1.1
Jokic 28.5 PER .281 WS/48 9.9 BPM VORP 1.0
Tatum 26.8 PER .215 WS/48 7.5 BPM VORP 0.9

With the Warriors record you absolutely can.

About Luka Doncic it feels like we giving him too much credit for a guy who doesn't give effort and energy on defense, he is the new James Harden for me. I will never give credit to guys who focus only on their individual stats. We should reward someone who his team is actually one of the top. Winning should matter the most on this award, this is the right way to me. If you don't want to give it to Giannis because his team is great even without him that's fine. But still the MVP trophy should go to someone that his team is one of the very best. We should rewarding winning culture above everything.

Funny enough I think that's just about the worst way to look at it. It's exactly how a top 15 player like Booker was suddenly 4th in MVP voting last year. Why base an individual award around team record? Winning culture gets rewarded by winning already, the MVP should be used to celebrate individual excellence. It's almost like you're implying Luka is hunting stats and should have a better record, while the Mavs are a perfectly fine 6-4 with a pretty mediocre roster outside of Luka.

Mediocre roster???
DAL w/o Doncic 111min +7.1 netrtg
GSW w/o Curry 182min -22.6 netrtg
DEN w/o Jokic 158min -15.8 netrtg
How do you call Warriors or Denver roster? Moody could be 5th best player after Curry/Green/Looney/Wiggs. I mean "best" is less negative than the rest.
