I remember reading something about the insurer(s) for the NBA is/are allowed to drop 5 players every year from contract coverage? Don't know if that's still applicable or any changes have been made to that. However, with the risk... you have to imagine Jo would be one of the 5.

That said, team still has to spend to the floor, which is basically the cap. Also, the team could theoretically have outside insurance on Jo's contract.

When he signed that extension, he looked injured coming out of the playoffs. We all knew he had a degenerative knee condition. I would be shocked if anyone would insure his contract, outside of it being more of a team wide or league wide policy.

Nevertheless, it’s just a matter of insurance paying it vs Harris paying it.

I think the original point was, whether Jo's contract comes off the cap or not, if Harris is actually setting 300M on fire with no insurance compensation to offset, he would be less likely to spend on the payroll of the team above what he has to.

And I think that's accurate.

They would be a non-tax team until Jo's contract is off the payroll.

Problem is there likely is no surgery. If you listened to a few pods you'd know that it's pretty hopeless at this point. At some point you have to think about life after basketball. Honestly think its better if he retired medically and the Sixers got their exception.

1. The pods have no idea what they're talking about. I think Ricky Sanchez was using Wade playing through the pain as an example, but they're situations are completely different. Wade had his meniscus completely removed in college. If cartilage is an issue, and it might just be.... Pain management and getting rid of the swelling is possible.

Which lines up with Morey's actions with Jo's extension. If all the docs are telling you no structural damaage it's just weakened and he will require some extra time off and learning to play through pain, then you wouldn't consider that a huge risk. The problem, of course, is Sadboi Joel. He does not have a grind it out personality. If the chips are down? Joel folds. We've seen this time and again. Morey keeps betting on the talent, which just isn't enough.

Yeah, I totally saw and believe the fact that doctors don't recommend a surgery and it's a pain management issue with Joel being soft, plus the team's actions align. I'm just saying a lot of his speculation or comparisons on top of those facts doesn't line up. I.E. he was a runner with a bad hip for years, all of a sudden his bone on bone required replacement surgery and Joel is dealing with the same thing or Wade without zero meniscus for his HOF career is the same thing as Joel. What I took from that was he was talking about pain tolerance. It's different for everyone and you can do it or you can't.

Nets are trying hard, but I am confident we will out-tank anyone, especially since Nurse hates Bona (+2 against Boston) and Council (+10). These two must have said something against Nurse in practice, there is no other explanation.
Anyway, our team looks horrible, and it is the worst coached team out of all tanking teams IMO. So Silver cannot even be sure we are doing it on purpose! Brilliant.

I just hope we keep our pick. It's been a miserable season. One of the worst I have had to endure as a fan of this franchise.

I don’t know if it’s possible. We are pretty bad, but 2-18 would be tough with our schedule.

We might not be favored in any games, but we should accidentally win 3 or 4. Either way, I think Toronto cruises right by us. Brooklyn is the biggest concern. We only won 2 of our last 16, so maybe.
