It would be interesting to see in a flat percentage how many people do think Middleton is basically cooked. I think I am there. I don't get the team holding him out on the abundance of caution post snowstorm, but trying his first B2B on the road like a week later. The two games bracketing the Utah game looked like he was stuck in mud out there.

I think people get their hopes up when they see a Utah game, but the reality is that Khris is the type of player who is always going to be capable of that kind of scoring outburst, even when he’s like 40 and regardless of injury. He has an old school, old man at the rec game.
But he’s absolutely cooked outside of that. He looks like he’s moving through quicksand.

If Jimmy Haslam don't care about the dollars then I'm not going to worry about the owners' luxury tax spend.
Rather either an extended Butler or LaVine could damage our salary cap situation due to the extra years they'd have vs Khris is the consideration.
But we'd be ducking the 2nd apron and passing on an extension for Bobby as part of the process. On a year to year basis neither of them necessarily destroy our books.
Whether they'd be great fits on the court and / or easily tradeable come 2026-27 is the biggest risk calculus I see.

I think if the bar is him being consistently (not every game, but most games) good, then yes, he's cooked. He can still pull out a great game here and there, but I'm not comfortable thinking he can do it in 4 out of 7 playoff games.

It's not irrelevant. They couldn't give him away 7 months ago. Volatility is not an asset.
According to Bobby Marks. He just throws darts hoping to land on something.
Alright. Would you have been happy if we'd have traded Midds and Bobby for LaVine last June?

LaVine has been objectively good at basketball this season. I hope that helps.
I'm not even all aboard the LaVine train, I understand the concerns and his injury history but you also can't pretend like he isn't having an awesome season.
Don’t you think a guy having a career year 10 years into the league like that is a bit of an outlier? If he returns to the norm how **** are we?
He’s not a good fit offensively because he needs to pound the ball in between Giannis and Dame, it would be a huge waste of money & assets to park him in the corner when the Bucks have superior much cheaper much younger catch & shoot players. Bucks need capable defenders and guys who can play within the offense, not someone that is going to chuck up 20 shots a night.

Khris may be about where Big Dog was in his career when he went off to Atlanta. It's tough to say for sure.

I mean he also compared Lavine to Monta Elllis, so....
I love Jay's passion, but I'm not in agreement with him here.

Gotta admit, the logic of "khris and bobby aren't good defenders so instead of trying to improve there let's add an even worse defender than them who also needs the ball in his hands while being one of the worst contracts in the league, and lets also attach an asset to get him" is really something.

Look, we're working with largely imperfect options here. If you are against LaVine i can understand why but the idea of sitting here and keeping the status quo to me is signing off on a 2nd round exit at best so I'm personally trying to open my mind to other possibilities. I also don't think LaVine is coming here at the end of the day so if you're dead set against it I wouldn't be too worried.

Superior?
He's a pretty damn good catch and shoot guy. Like really good.
To me it all comes down to whether or not he would accept a lesser role to win. You've made your thoughts clear. I'm not sure I agree.
Thr biggest thing to me is the cap hell we'll be in paying those 3 guys $165MM or whatever it is. Tough to build a roster around that.
It would definitely be a big risk.

Bit of a strawman argument, no? Literally haven’t seen anyone saying they would attach an asset to get him.

Also If you bring him it's because you think you he's capable of sliding into a supporting role and being effective without constantly dominating the ball. He would theoretically raise the floor of this offense. Not saying it would for sure work but players can largely adjust and adapt to their situation unless they're just massive knobs.

Don't understand where you guys are getting the ball-stopper part from. LaVine fit fine playing next to DeRozan, a way more egregious chucker and usage sponge, for 3-4 seasons and his numbers were still pretty consistent. He's a good catch and shoot dude and always has been. He's still a nuclear level vertical athlete that can attack the rim, draw fouls, and adds another lob threat to the starting-5. And sure, put the ball in his hands and let him run bench units, and he can keep your offense afloat by himself:
P&R ball-handler: 0.99 PPP, 77th percentile
ISO: 1.15 PPP, 93rd percentile
Like, he's actually a pretty versatile offensive player even if I think his assist numbers are more of a usage mirage than him actually being a good passer. The concerns are entirely the defensive issues, the fact that he's really not that young and durable (turns 30 in March), and how much his contract hamstrings you the next 2.5 seasons. Now stop making me defend LaVine lol.

Lavine is a good volume 3PT shooter, having a career year in that respect and similarly finishing at the rim near the best he's been. Great shooting year from him, but all his other #s are on par with career average (per possession). Above average on the offensive end but he's still terrible at defense, injury prone, and sitting with a terrible contract. Hard Pass!

I agree Marks knows little, but it was reported by numerous sources that Detroit turned down Lavine and a 1st.

I don't get your point. Are you saying a player's career is menaingless and we should only look at the most recent 40 games?
Lavine's career is the reason posters don't want him. You can argue against that, but don't ignore his past.
The reason I am still on board (although wobbly) with keeping Khris is because I know he is a bigtime clutch player. That's because of what he did last year and before.
If I knew KM was toast, I'd be on board with trading him, but none of us know that for sure. I do know that Lavine is no Khris Middleton.
