Wishful Thinking
Is it too much to hope that he was traded to the Clippers?

I'm assuming we'd be giving up Blake for KP? (I'm okay with that).

Blake can't even be traaded unless he specifically decided he wanted to go to New York. The only New York trade we could possible make is the whole Redick S&T + Rivers + Johnson for Carmelo and Lee. Redick has expressed in the past that he likes NY, and I believe he has property there too.

Think we're buying our way into the draft. If for nothing else, G league purposes.

0% of Knick fans would be ok with that. And Phil isn't stupid enough to do so. Melo would make too much sense for you guys. Wouldn't have to break up your core group, just give up bad contracts and some future firsts that will be late rounders anyways.
Be cheap and end up outted in the first round again next year.
Lineup of
Jordan
Griffin
Melo
Reddick
Paul
On Paper...Pretty deadly team and should be able to compete for a top 4 seed in the west. Idk why everyone thinks Melo is washed up, he is still an elite scorer who can score 1v 1 vs anybody and can make any shot on the floor with a hand in his face. On top of that, he is a great spot up shooter from 3 and probably the best mid range scorer in the game.
Melo on the Clippers would be a perfect pairing.

Problem with that is they wouldn't be those late 1st rounders you imply would be. First pick the Clippers can trade is 2022. Paul will be 37 by then, and Melo 38. Jordan 34 and Griffin 33. It can perfectly be a top 3 pick. I don't think the Clippers are interested in being the next Brooklyn Nets for the limited upside that Melo offers, what's the best case scenario with him? barely getting to the WCF?
If they re-sign everyone and they get bounced again in the 1st round, they can always trade the veterans for picks/prospects and build a nice future. If they get Melo for future unprotected pick(s), they are mortgaged for the next decade in exchange for pretty much nothing.

But would Doc be willing to trade his son Austin to make it work? I honestly can't see it.
I know somebody's going to pull up that old post of Doc willing to give up Austin in a right deal, but I think he's gonna keep him. Pretty soon, Doc will treat Austin the same way he treated Paul Pierce. Doc has never made the conference finals without Pierce, and has had two 3-1 collapses without him. Now Doc thinks he can't win a championship without his son.
Let's face it. The only way the Clippers are ever going to reverse their 3-1 omen is to give up somebody they truly love. It can't be from a personal standpoint; it's gotta be monumental. Something that convinces the world the Clippers are apologizing for not seizing the jaws of victories when opportunities were given to them. They've always let things slip away because of what they've been through under the evil Donald Sterling, that losing is the only consistent. They have to be willing to punish themselves.
Clippers must trade Blake Griffin. For what he did in changing the reputation of their franchise, fans will forever thank him for that. Griffin brought the Clippers Chris Paul, Doc Rivers (debatable), Steve Ballmer, legitimacy, and consecutive playoff visits. While he was a lucky charm for good will and fortune, he didn't help get the Clippers to the western conference finals. It's knowing what you can do with the gifts produced by the lucky charm that makes all the difference in the world - that would be Paul, Doc, and Ballmer.
Are the Clippers afraid of turning back into perennial losers if they lose Griffin? Do they keep him around as long as they can just to get a retired jersey up in the rafters behind the hordes of banners made by the Lakers, Sparks, Kings, and Taylor Swift? The Clippers would be doing the same thing Doc Rivers is doing: counting on a lucky charm.
If the Clippers truly care about a title over loyalty, they may have to part ways with their beloved no. 1 draft pick of a savior. It will hurt the Clippers in the short run, but if they can get a conference finals visit, an NBA Finals visit, or even a championship, it will be for the best.
And if I were Steve Ballmer, when the Clippers finally win one, I'd vouch for the NBA to recognize Blake Griffin as an NBA Champion, even without being on a Clippers roster.

Random unlikely idea...
Any chance we can flip PP to Boston (as previously discussed so he can retire a Celtic) in a S&T for one of their free agents?
He's making roughly 3.6 so I'm guesstimating the max we could offer would be in the 4.25 range. Which means Amir and Jerebko are off the table but I wonder if that would be enough for Gerald Green or James Young?
Nothing terribly exciting. But if Doc is trying to do right by Pierce, and for whatever reason Boston refuses to cooperate in a multi team trade, then this seems like a better option than losing the flexibility of a non minimum contract for nothing when our cap situation is so limited.

If you want to pay Green a lot more than vet minimum, I have little doubt that Ainge would be happy to facilitate it in the way you're suggesting.
I think Ainge will likely want to pay Green vet minimum to again sit at the end of the bench, have fun in the locker room with his friends, and contribute for a handful of games. But if he can get a lot more money than that, then moving to LA makes sense.
But please note -- if the Cs trade for Pierce, then he has to retire one of the first days of free agency (to get his salary back off the books). This would be rushed and sub-optimal. So that's a sacrifice that needs to have a reason.
Paying Green a couple extra million dollars would probably count as a reason.

PP can announce his retirement as a clipper, get his contract off the books, then sign a one day contract with the Celts to retire as a celtic. no need to overly complicate the situation.
ehhhhh f it.

I think there's a rule that if a player officially files retirement with the league they can't sign with any other team for a whole year or something like that.

well, then he can retire as a clipper, wait a year to be reinstated, then sign a one day contract with the celts. however the logistics might play out, he already have expressed his desire to retire with a year remaining on his contract anyway.
ehhhhh f it.

Re: Transaction Discussion Part 3 (Trades, Free-Agency, News, Rumors & Ideas)
I come as a Celtics fan, and I promise you I am not trying to cook up deals where the other team gets fleeced. I am trying to do a deal that works for both teams.
Here's my idea. Say the Celtics clear capspace and are able to sign Gordon Hayward to a max deal. Then the Cs immediately turn their attention to Blake Griffin and they agree to a max deal assuming the Clippers are willing to do a sign-and-trade.
Would the Clippers do such a deal if in return the Cs offered Al Horford, Jae Crowder and the return of the Clips 2019 no. 1 pick? Note that both Horford and Crowder are inked through 2010, and Crowder has arguably one of the best contracts (from a management perspective) in the NBA.

I'd sign off on that right now. The Celtics would never agree to it though.
Plus, why would I want to go to the NBA? Duke players suck in the pros.
