I was hoping for an English upset. Oh well there’s always next round.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before;

I’m his biggest critic but I have to give props to Southgate. England have been one of the best teams this WC. Highest tournament scorers as well… hopefully he can bring it home

Have to give Southgate credit at that point. They've had much more talented squads than this over the past two decades but he's the one getting results.

The most important aspect of Southgate is that the players like him and go out there and play for him. He's got the players up and ready for the tournaments.

I don't rate him at all as a tactician or as someone who can turn a game with substitutions or changes in shape.

I do think this is the most talented team we've had since the "Golden Generation" of the late 90s and early 00s, though.

I was going through some of their past World Cup lineups the other day and I'm not sure I agree with that, but I will absolutely defer to your opinion there. And liking your coach goes a long, long way. That's got to be way more than half the battle at the national team level when you barely have them and you've got so many different personalities, egos, etc.

Whatever the reason, given that England has always been my No. 2, I'm digging it.

Wouldn't be much of an upset to go out to a France team that's favourites to win the tournament.

Turco praising England feels like a sign of the end times. :lol:

ahaha still will root against them when the time comes but credit is where credit is due, hard to hate a young team with such cohesion

also helps they have been the only european team that has been a fun watch for a neutral viewer

Man, I hadn't realized Mbappe fed Giroud for the first goal. That's a complete performance.

This is what you can expect. The better teams do what is needed to win. Next round will be much more tactical, which can be a lot more boring. I expect some 0-0 draws with penalies, like the semi final in 2014 between Argentina and Holland.

This World Cup has been nothing but a disaster from the start, no matter how much you try to paint a positive picture for your beloved organizers. All the issues with the hotels(https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-10-04/fifa-world-cup-qatar-2022-thousands-of-hotel-rooms-made-available?leadSource=uverify%20wall), playing the freaking World Cup in November, with only 1 week of pause between club competitions and the start of the tournament, which directly resulted in the top 2 players(according to Ballon d'Or) to missing the tournament, and many more...

oh yea, western media foaming at the mouth about hotel rooms that were all made readily available before the tournament started, not a single person that wanted a hotel room in Qatar didn't get one, so I'm not sure what you or Bloomberg's problem with 'hotel rooms' is. :lol:

as for the start being in November, that was 100% for the safety of players who would've been playing in the middle of 120 degree heat if the tournament started in June/July like it usually is. so unless you wanted the players dying of heat stroke, pretty sure that was the right decision.

by all accounts from people on the ground it's been an incredibly well run tournament and one of the safest, but of course that's not gonna stop the disgusting xenophobia and racism from western outlets that wanted the WC to fail so badly to seep thru.

I gotta hand it to you. You really think you're running on some sort of platform here aren't you? If only you channeled all this energy in real life instead of on realgm. My guess is you don't do jack **** about it outside of these forums.
