Re: Official RJ Barrett Thread Part 2
Put whatever stock you want into this, but the last 15 games RJ is averaging 25/7/6 on 50/38/75 shooting splits with a TS% of 60.3%
He started the year off amazing, but then he had a brutal 7 game stretch shooting 34%. I do think RJ settles into a guy who can give 24-26 nightly while giving a TS% of around 58-60%
He has been amazing in my eyes this year, close to allstar caliber. The passing is something I honestly did not expect.

Also important to note that RJ had that brutal 7 game stretch with Scottie out. There's more and more evidence piling up that he's an effective player when not having to carry the load all by himself as both scorer and creator.

24/7/7 in an efficient manner as a 24 year old.... but sure, let's trade him.

WITHOUT RJ, this season, Scottie has averaged 15.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 5 games(1-4) .
WITH RJ, this season, Scottie has averaged 21.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists in 13 games (4-9)
Let's see how that evidence piles up..it seems to go both ways which is great both making each other MUCH better.

Right on.
RJ Barrett has averaged 21.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 36 games with Scottie Barnes in his career, while shooting 54% from the field and 39% from deep.
The two complement each other very well.
They went from being high school rivals to becoming an elite NBA duo.

Just more Baffling stuff.

The 2 performances against the Knicks should have stood out.
The Knicks have 2 of the best Wing defenders in the world in OG and Mikal which is the main reason I am picking them to beat the Celtics, if healthy.
Anyway, Mikal could not guard RJ at all; while OG has tasted 30 from RJ regularly to this day.
I would love a first round playoff series against them to assess everyone properly this season (one can dream)

PER36 RJ W/Scottie 24/25
25.0/7.4/6.0
True Shooting - 62.4%
PER36 Scottie W/RJ 24/25
22.5/9/8.5
True Shooting - 56.1%
Obviously Scottie's efficiency needs to improve, but RJ is the only other guy on the team who can do the things he does. They're going to be dangerous next season.

I’ll always be on the side of trading him because I don’t believe in wings who can’t defend but his passing has been so impressive this season.
It’s nothing special but he fully utilizes the passing windows that are open to him on his downhill drives, he did not have that in his repertoire last year.

Will Lou was saying they haven't made any push to promote RJ to be named to the all-star team after doing the same for OG and Gary. This is either a major goof or our organization is truly bottom rank at the moment.

We have the 2nd worst record in the conference and 3rd worst in the league, we’re in no position to making all-star pushes for anyone.
The all-star talk doesn’t start heating up until the new year anyway. If we go on a 3 game win-streak at any point in January, I’d bet the over on Matt Devlin calling RJ an all-star 5 times per game

Tell that to the social media team that continues to shove "Scottie All-Star" narrative down our throats.
RJ deserves an all-star nod a lot more than Scottie.

But no fans think Barnes should be an All Star this year

That's fine with me. 3rd worst record in the league...deserves zero all-stars.

Is 46/34/72 efficient? He is also a poor defender. Not in play style, but overall impact he is like a poor mans Demar.

What people keep pointing to is that he IS efficient when he plays with Barnes.
When he plays with Barnes, he isn't forced to do more than he can handle plus having Barnes on the court makes things easier for him.
It's why a bunch of us do want at some point, to see Barnes, IQ, RJ and Yak together to see how everything is impacted. And see what those 4 are like with a Gadey or Walter as a shooting option, or with Ochai to gage the differences.
Not sure that will be this season or not.

It is more like he shoots well at home and poorly on the road.

So how about 45/28/73? Is that efficient? Has anyone complained about how Scottie isn't a good shooter with him shooting 28% from 3????????? But apparently RJ is a bad shooter because 34% from 3. Right....makes sense?
No one is making the argument that Scottie Barnes is inefficient despite the fact that he's shooting even worse than RJ. I wonder why?
Scottie is averaging 20 pts, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. RJ is averaging 24 pts, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. And yet, RJ is the problem??? So we expect that Scottie will continue to develop and yet RJ is RJ...but RJ is just older by a year. Double Standard??????
RJ is having a career year. He has improved immensely since coming home to Toronto. It's time to put the NY stats behind and focus on what he's doing right now.
RJ is our only option that constantly puts pressure on the rim as he's always looking to go downhill (for better or for worse). Meanwhile...Scottie shrivels when there are rim protectors roaming the paint and settles for 3s for which he is shooting 28% only. If Scottie only had RJ's level of competitiveness...he'd be all-NBA easily.

Relax. RJ is 44/35/71 for his career and is 46/34/72 this season. He is the same guy he was with the Knicks other then that his usage is up and he has improved as a play maker. Not sure why you are bringing up Barnes, everyone knows that he can't shoot.

I bring up Scottie because he is the golden child around here. Shooting 35% isn't a knock-down shooter but it isn't 28% bad. And if we want to hope that Scottie improves...there every chance in the world that RJ could improve. Again...they are only 1 year apart in age despite RJ having another year or so in NBA experience.
If we are calling RJ inefficient...Scottie is more inefficient.

I never even said RJ was inefficient. I asked if he was. I agree that Barnes is more inefficient though. He needs to stop taking so many 3s and get his ass in the post and to his mid-range game. The sad reality is that most of the team is inefficient, which is one of the reason that they stink. There are tons of reason that they stink, but that is one of them.
