Well, at least tell us where you're going!zong wrote:Portland GM on vacation?
Hey guys, its been a blast playing in this competition with y'all, and unfortunately I have to take a breakand go on a real vacation. My flight is tomorrow at 5 AM and I prolly wont sleep tonight haha, so anyway, if you have offers for any of my players, dont feel offended if I dont reply because I probably wont have the tools/resources to reply although I am unfortunately still bringing my laptop. I'll be on occasionally and at awkward times since its a 12 hour difference between there and america.
Anyway, take prior warning that my email replies for your trade offers will be slowwww so keep your pants on
Cheers and good luck to everyone for the rest of the competition!
And when will you be back? (I guess you're already on your way, so no use in asking now.)

I have a question, I know in the last game if you traded for a restricted free agent, the team that received that player kept his bird rights; my question is are we doing that again?
I know I was under that assumption when I made a couple of trades, and I think some others were as well but can I get a clarification on that.

And there are no buy-outs, but in terms of FA, the hunt for a person to help us run it continues. FA was scheduled to begin this Friday, but I haven't been able to contact zong and also with this new layout we are not authorized to PM, but I had planned to contact about 2-3 posters about helping us run FA through PM.

We are currently looking for a poster (preferably a mod) to help us run free agency, who has an extensive knowledge of how the free agency period works. This facilitator would make important decisions like who opts out and who doesn't and what teams a player signs for after receiving offers.

Re: GM a Team: Part 3 Main Page [NEED AN FA FACILITATOR P.30]
Im the guy you wanted all along, i run 2 leagues so far in my career and i ran free agency, but yeh it was easy for me becos im mod. Anyways I know, if u dont believe i will show to u, in my 1st game, we did restricted wherein all non-owners bid in 48 hrs, after 48 hrs, whoever has the highest and valid bid, it will be between him and the original owner, if owner doesnt match, the player is his with the amount of the highes bid he bidded, if owner matches, he retains the player but with the highest bid amount.
example,
u bid 1m in dj mbenga
cle bided 1.2m
den bidded 1.5m
i bid 2.0m
someone bid 3.5m
memphis bid 3.7m
gsw bid 5.0m
as u can see here, gsw had the highest bid total for dj mbenga, which earned only around 100k, if dj mbenga's owner match, he has dj for 5m, if he doesnt match, gsw has dj mbenga for 5m.
i can run this, jsut gimme a team trust me, im known in hoopshype and other leagues.
example,
u bid 1m in dj mbenga
cle bided 1.2m
den bidded 1.5m
i bid 2.0m

gsw bid 5.0m

^Well that's sort of the point, I'm looking for someone who ISN'T running a team, so there is no bias involved. And you really didn't have to go all out to show me, but do you have an AIM or MSN account? I'd like to discuss this with you.

Re: GM a Team: Part 3 Main Page [FA Decision P.30]
Good afternoon (morning/evening for some of you) GMs:
Effective immediately I will be re-signing from my position as the Toronto Raptors GM to become a full-time FA facilitator/game administrator. I made this decision based on the fact that we could not find a facilitator quick enough to get this off the ground and I believe this will be a good learning experience for me. With the help of some of you guys we should be able to get FA done successfully and collectively. Through sterncohen's appreciated advice, this is how I believe FA will be run:
1. A list of all FAs (classified) will be posted, this will be done today. [for FA, we will be using the draft thread, I will change the title/first post and I will let you know what you have to do in the thread]
2. I will rule (looking at all factors) who will opt out or exercise their early termination options.
3. A salary cap for next season will be decided, it should be around $58-$60M, but I will let you know for sure.
4. I will act as an agent for negotiations and I will receive all offers for players' services, once again looking at all factors I will decide who signs where.
This is how the actual process will be done starting June 20th:
Friday - Monday
1. GMs announce whether they are letting players go or can make offers to keep their free agents around. This is also the time to excercise team options.
2. GMs must post their salary information for next season with the following rules:
-- Roster limits apply.
-- First round draft choices have to be signed to a scale contract and count against the roster limit, unless the player is European and the GM says the player will remain in Europe (he can't show the player on his 08-09 roster).
-- Second round draft choices don't have to be signed yet, but if you do wish to sign them, they can be signed for the league minimum (ie. Carl Landry).
-- In addition to actual salaries, teams have to post cap holds on their restricted free agents (the DX salary page has this info) and add this amount to actual salaries to show whether they're under the cap.
-- Teams have to post their cap status - over, under by less than the MLE, or under by more than the MLE. (Teams in the first two categories are effectively in the same place - all they can offer to free agents, except their own free agents for whom they have Bird rights, is the MLE.) All owners have a couple of days to check over these posts and raise any questions, to make sure that we don't have teams making big free agent offers when they really don't have the cap space to do so.
[props to sterncohen for his ideas on the process]
3. A list will be put up of players in a certain range, for example, players who are predicted to get above $10M, and offers will be sent to myself via e-mail. If the highest bid for an RFA is above the team that currently has him, that GM will be contacted with the details of the offer and will have a chance to match. If it is a UFA, the winner will simply be posted in the draft thread. For each group of players you will 48 hours to bid, you will have notice as to which group of players is going when, so this doesn't fall between that Friday-Monday timeframe, it will be longer.
4. This will keep on going with lower ranges and free agents will be added to your rosters.
We are now in search of a Raptors GM and I know a few have shown interest so I'll get in contact with them.
This is the greatest part of the game, so make sure your active and I hope we can do this together guys.

Re: GM a Team: Part 3 Main Page [FA Decision P.30]
Contingent on you being active for at least 1-2 hours a day throughout this FA period, the job is yours flix360. You can post your roster (you can basically copy mine on p.1) and get ready for free agency. If I find your not going to be active I will try to get on it ASAP, but if you are there should be no problems. Can you please post your e-mail/AIM/msn messenger accounts so other GMs can contact you??

The staff of Memphis Grizzlies, the not so solid squad (yet) of Grizzlies and the young and upcoming general manager, Me, warmly welcome you to the organization. We hope your knowledge and experience brings in ideas to enhance this squad and the ingredients that this team lacks.

Damn, I'm going to be gone for the weekend (including Friday). I'll try to get mine in later (hopefully I'll still be around when bryant posts what exactly we need) since I'll bring my laptop (though not sure on the internet connection.)

Now that we are about to start Free Agency, are we at the point where we need to use 08/09 salaries for trades?
