Best backcourt in the NBA?

Stephen Curry and Monta Ellis are easily the best scoring backcourt in the NBA.

Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant, though... clutch. Kobe being one of the best players in NBA history and Derek Fisher is always a guy you can count on to hit a big three.

My vote goes to Parker/Ginobili.

Nah, Monta is averaging 28 points a game on 52% shooting. He scored 46 points on 75% shooting on opening night and he doesn't even get superstar calls from the ref.

Monta was a chucker last year because the Warriors had the 2nd most player injuries in the history of the NBA and Nellie ended up running him to the ground as Monta tried carrying an injured Warriors team by himself. That's why it's no surprise to me that Monta is finally doing well now that he has a healthy team around him and Steph Curry finally stepped up to help out. I doubt Manu Ginobili would have done better than Ellis last season if he was in the same situation.

The fact is that Ellis has always been good, he was just set back the past two seasons because of the moped incident and all the injuries. He's finally picking up where he left off from the 07-08 season. You think Ginobili can average 26ppg on over 60% shooting for an entire month? You think Ginobili can average 20+ppg on over 50% shooting as a third option while two other guards on his team are averaging 20+ppg as well? I doubt he can.

I respect Ginobili and all; he's clutch and is an 3 time NBA champion, but as of right now he's not as good as Monta Ellis.

Well your definition is wrong.

A chucker is an inefficient scorer.

Ellis is not that. At least not this year.

Ellis has decent efficiency in this tiny 7-game sample (although his 58% TS% is still worse than Manu's 60% this year, as well as Manu's career average) but he was downright awful the last two years (50%), so I wouldn't count on him keeping it up.

He was set back the past two seasons, though.

He was out for like 3 months in 08-09 because of he was coming off the moped injury and spent the rest of the season trying to get his game back along with his athleticism and speed. Then in 09-10 the whole Warriors team was plagued with injuries so Ellis tried to carry the team by himself which caused him to chuck too many shots. He didn't trust Steph Curry most of the season since he was a rookie, and Corey Magette... well Maggette just isn't that good. Everyone else was out for a long time, and players were taking turns getting injured. There were also games where the Warriors top 4 big men (Brandan Wright, Andris Biedrins, Ronny Turiaf and Anthony Randolph) all missed games together and the team was left with D-League calls ups Anthony Tolliver and Chris Hunter as their starting frontline.

They had like 3 injury exceptions last season; it's rare for a team to even get one. Also, even their D-League callups were getting injured, too. The following video kind of sums up what we had to go through when it comes to lack of players available.

Don Nelson also missed games due to pneumonia.

Monta did chuck shots last season, but a big part of that was because he was forced to. That's why I see the last two seasons as setbacks for him and he's finally coming back to his 2007-2008 form when he was one of the most efficient guards in the NBA.

It's not a surprise to me that Monta is finally doing better now that he and his team is healthy. If this 7 game sample was the only time in Monta's career where he played good, then I wouldn't get excited for him yet, but the fact was that Monta has always had the capabilities to be this good. People forget how good he was in 2007-2008 before the setbacks in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.

To be considered the best, you have to show it on court, several times and have success.

Monta Ellis played only once in PO (2007), his 2nd season in the league.. This were his stats:
21,6mpg; 8 ppg; 39% FG; 11% 3Pt; 2,3reb, 0,9 assists.
Stephen Curry never played a PO game..
How can they be THE best?

I'd take Fisher/Kobe; Rondo/Allen, Parker/Ginobili over them with no hesitation..

We're talking about right now, buddy. If we were talking about the best backcourt statistically over recent years, then Monta and Curry obviously wouldn't be in the discussion. However as of now they're doing well. Good job trying to discredit them, though. :lol:

I am being hypocritical since I brought up Monta's stats from 2007-2008 and said he's coming back to being that efficient player from back then, but still, that guy bringing up Monta's stats from the 2007 Playoffs when he was like the 5th or 6th option on the Warriors to justify why he's not a good player in 2010-2011 is laughable.
