Heres a crazy trade that would allow us to compete this year while keeping 2015 plans intact

NY- Josh Smith, K. Lowry, L. Fields
Det- Jr smith, Bargnani, Felton
Tor- C. Villenova, Metta, Beno, 1st rd Pk Via NY

NY- They reload and make a push for the playoffs, Josh might be a better fit playing next to Carmelo and give Tyson help down low, we also aquire fan favorite Fields back lolz (Also keeps 2015 plan intact as Jr/Felton were set to make 10 Million so replacing them with Smith is only going to be a 4 Million hit)

Det- They are said to want and get rid of smiths contract... Easier said then done, but all things aside he is juat a bad fit in Detriot.... So we give them our excess for theres.... Felton,Bargnani, Jr are all smaller contracts and all run out before Smith does

Tor- IF they are serious about dealing lowry and getting a asset for him, they dont take on any contracts as everyone is expiring, get a pk in the process and also gets rid of landry fields contract...

if josh smith isn't working out at the three in detroit, what makes you think he'll work here in new york when melo at his best is best at the 4? on top of that, we're giving up a first round pick for that and half a season in kyle lowry? pass.

Yeah, it's a terrible trade b/c-- even best case scenario---the fit is great and we get to the ECF, we can't resign Lowry.
But I can already tell you why I think this FO would consider Josh Smith. Detroit doesn't lack offensive rebounding, pts in the paint, and rim protection. We do. Smith wouldn't be redundant here. Not to mention FT's and fast break pts and defensive stops. He'll help us in all our weakest categories.

He's one of the few "difference makers" we can get in his prime that will allow us to keep Shump, b/c Detroit is looking to dump his years, so although his contract is past 2015, we still keep Tyson and Shump for a future move.

but yeah, it would probably never work.he's as dumb as JR with worse shot selection--and that's hard to do.

DBC10 wrote:Dang I was actually going to make a thread titled, "The Mystery of Josh Smith"

It was going to be about his offensive lowlights and as well as dispelling any myths about him as well. I guess I'll do it here, if you want, you can also quote my post and paste it onto the first post too.

Myth 1: "If Josh moves to his natural position at the 4, he'll chuck significantly less and play more near the basket."
Answer: False: Image - Courtesy of reddit via DetroitBadBoys
That's from this season and commenters regarding that picture had this to say as well.
He needs adderal. -redditor

he needs a shock collar for every time he shoots a three
He would die of complete electrocution.

Myth 2: "Even though he's 28, he can change into more of a traditional PF and you can teach an old dog new tricks."
Answer: False: Image
He played his natural position all of last year and ended that year by shooting 17% over his given shot attempts at the 3 point line, 47% of the time at shooting the midrange and 36% of the time, he took it to the rim. So no, he will still chuck off a significant amount of his shot selection at either midrange or the 3 ball.

Conclusion: He's not going to stop shooting and contributing to his historic lows in FG%. If you have a bigman that's willing to shoot with this much frequency and with miserable success rate, he's going to shoot you out of games or at the very least it'll be a roller coaster whenever he plays. I'll end with this:

He can alternate with cArmelo on offense defense, melo can't play 4 against all the 4 of the league , Carmelo is a much more versatile player then Monroe .... Plus he comes with the excess of jr and Felton , sounds good

you must mean that Josh Smith comes at the expense of JR and Felton?
that's wrong too, Josh Smith and his contract would come at the expense of knick fans' hopes and dreams and all that is pure and decent in the world.

Wow, I disagree. Thad is exactly the "3rd option"on a championship team type player, especially with Melo.
He can guard West and Ibaka// and Lebron and Paul George. he can bring the ball up the court, rebound, block shots, score in the paint, and hit the 3. oh by the way, he's very low maintenance and doesn't need plays run for him. very good on ball defender, elite team defender. top 5 in steals in the league and is a glue guy.
One of the few availabe (maybe) players that is a definite upgrade from Shump.

Knicks can win a chip with Tyson/Melo/Thad/Timmy/
depending on the pt guard and bench and coach.

but I'm pretty sure we'll end up getting Josh Smith.

All the more reason why you go get your PG before you worry about getting a guy like Thad Young tho right? Not sure how you can tell he's capable of being a 3rd option on a championship team when he's never been close to playing on a contending team but lets say that he is: you still believe we need a PG and thats gotta be first, second and third priority. Not winning a chip with thad young if there is not an elite pg on this team.

Watching how melo played with jkidd in the line up was a revelation. Jkidd just brings so much extra to the table that most pg's in the league couldn't. Rondo is jkidd 2.0 to me. Kidd wasn't a "shooter" until the tail end of his career yet he went to the finals twice with the nets. Rondo, much like kidd, can get you a bunch of triple doubles w/o being a shooter. He just knows how to play PG. Running an offense is so undervalued in today's nba. There are def PG's in the league that I would rather have from an excitement standpoint but short of cp3, i'm not sure there is a pg in the league that I would feel more confident and comfortable with then rondo. I KNOW you can win a championship with him, that he will understand time, score, situation and personnel and make the right plays.

You missed an important point, you saw Melo paired with Kidd when Kidd had an outside shot that needed to be respected. Rondo's doesn't. Teams can pack the paint against him.

I'm not claiming he was as good as Rondo, but Melo had Miller as his PG for the first part of his career. Miller is a good floor general, but couldn't shoot worth a lick. Teams would just pack the paint and clog things up for Melo while daring the rest of his team to shoot. Maybe it would have been different if the Nuggets had some shooters in those years, they didn't though.

Then he was paired with Billups and came close to making it to the finals. Billups was also a good floor general and had an outside shot that needed to be respected.

If the Knicks could get a good shooter at SF and SG to pair with Melo and Rondo, then it may work.

Actually j kidds shot isnt the reason why i thought the knicks looked good anyway. Remember jkidd's shot faded half way through the season and we replaced him with Priggs. To this day, most of the board thinks we look better with Priggs than we do with Ray which highlights the point I was making and what's important to me. A floor general is necessary. The shooting is not nearly as important as creating and maintaining offensive flow as a team. Thats what jkidd did no matter how he was shooting and thats what priggs does. Again, jkidd with no jumper and an ok team around him when he was with the nets was enough to get to the finals twice. Rondo, went to the finals twice as well. Yes he had KG, PP and Allen with him, but thats why i think he's necessary. Teams could pack the paint all they want, he still orchestrated an offense that made teams pay for that and as a result, had multiple trips to the finals and conference finals, one championship, etc etc. Doesn't matter what the opponent does if you can counter it and rondo has proven he can effectively, and DOMINANTLY counter teams who try that crap. Besides that, tell me where billups 2.0 is in the league?

i don't like him as a player at all. the only way I'd take a player like him on is if we're getting a first round pick, or a talented young player that could develop over time. he's really not worth it at this point. not with that salary eating into the 2015 plan.

highlighted is an absolute truth.
but I believe a FO has to keep an eye out for opportunities. when and if we make the move for that pt guard or max player(s), we'll only be able to sign players other teams don't want.
only reason a player like Thad is available is b/c Philly is in rebuild mode, he's a tweener, and probably getting paid a little more than he's worth. A player like that for the knicks is worth picking up, especially since Shump will be included in any trade getting a worthwhile player.

Also, that Doug Collins coached philly team( the year b4 they traded for Bynum) was pretty good in their own right, and Thad delivered. that's where I developed my nbaplayer crush on him--- besides just liking his game, versatiliy, and stats.

let me also add, we don't have enough assets to get a legitimate player. so someone like Rondo is going to have to force his way here, so as long as we don't trade Amare, Shump, and maybe Tyson we should be good in that respect.

NY Trades: Felton + Shumpert for Kyle Lowry (someone needs to float to Lowry's agent to tell the Raps he isn't re-signing there and that he only wants to be a starting PG wherever he's traded. That would limit Toronto's options to NY basically)

NY Trades: Chandler, JR, Bargs for Deng, Varejeo, Miles, Jack (I don't know if Deng can be traded again in a package before the deadline)

Varejeo, Melo, Deng, THJr, Lowry start. Filthy. Bring KMart, Tyler, Miles, Jack, and Prigs off the bench. Build a team around Melo so we can compete now in his prime.

Amare/Tyler/Motie
Melo/MWP/Hamilton
Shump/THJ/Murry
Lin/Prigs/Udrih

No...no at all from us

Not only do we not want bargs or any of the other players

Not only is Lin a good player for us

Not only has motie been playing well as of late

Not only could we get a better package for Asik (even if disgruntled we don't HAVE to trade him)

We have a 2015 plan too and we aren't ruining it for jr spliff and fatty Felton
