Meanwhile the Sixers are more or less proving on the court Morey's point that there's no reason to trade Ben for role players. They have a decent collection of role players that are winning games already. They need guys that will take them to the next level.
One can argue that Ben's value on offense was never really that high which might deter teams.
The main stat everyone pointed to was Ben created the most three opportunities in the league. Well, we are only 12th in 3FGA currently, but 3rd in 3FG% and 9th in ppg compared to 14th last year. Obviously early days, but it doesn't appear that there has been any impact lost offensively from Ben not playing.
You could argue that, and my response would be asking how many people that were on the team last year are actually shooting much better from 3 so far this year? It's basically just Curry (who was already top 5 in the league last year, and probably isn't going to shoot 54% all year), and Green slightly though his attempts are down. Embiid, Harris and Furkan are all down.
I think a lot of that is Niang being the greatest upgrade from Scott imaginable so far and Drummond being able to actually set shooters up as opposed to being a black hole like Dwight.
I don't think this proves Ben is overrated as much as our role players were underrated offensively. Meanwhile the relative drop-offs in defense and rebounding speak for themselves.
For example, when Embiid got hurt last year, the defense didn't really drop off when they subbed Bradley in. That didn't mean Embiid is overrated defensively as much as people were underrating Bradley's ability to step in and keep things afloat.
