Some interesting names. I'll be watching Borucki, Tinoco, Urena, Tellez. I see Carlos Ramirez is making the transition to the mound. Alford is always intriguing too.

In the twelfth plate appearance of the season, Franklin Barreto records his first out on a ball in play; he was 7 for 7 previous. A sad day.

Be interesting to see if there are any posters out in Vancouver who get a chance to see this guy. He's one of the prospects that intrigues me the most.

According to Vancouver Canadians radio:

Castro sat 93-96 often touched 97, 99.

This guy apparently has the best slider in the organization and has an average changeup.

He's 6 6 and 190lbs, so he obviously hasn't filled out yet, very encouraging.

He's definitely one of the young guys to watch. Sickels had him as one of the sleepers in the organization entering the year, and the fact that they dropped him into short-season rather than rookie ball suggests that they think that he has the pitchability to handle college hitters.

Baseball Prospectus pumpin' Barreto's tires

For Barreto, it’s about the bat, which is going to play right now and will be his ticket for the future. It may also be his ticket to a full-season league before 2014 is finished.

According to tonights lineups, Nessy and Danzler have been promoted to Dunedin, playing today. Pompey is not in the lineup, it doesn't seem like he's been promoted. Chung and Hobson are going to NH with Norris.

why can't the Jays just package transaction info in a press release.

I'm disappointed that Pompey doesn't appear to be moving up. He's been all sorts of good this year at Dunedin.

He's terribly interesting as a prospect, I want to see how he fares in AA damnit.

Barreto is looking straight up legit.

4-6 last night with a 2B a walk an RBI and 2 SB (3). He did make his second error though.

In 20 PA so far, he's reached 13 times.

I was curious if he was the youngest guy in the Northwest League. Turns out there's a guy who is younger by one day. It doesn't seem like the other guy has actually played yet, though.

While there's a massive dollop of luck involved in that, hard not to suspect that he's probably making good contact.

Danny Barnes might also be finally, mercifully healthy; he's back to dominating in the bullpen as he was a couple years back. Not sure what his velocity is like these days, but he threw in the upper 90s when he was getting touted as a fast-moving relief arm...wouldn't be a surprise to see him in New Hampshire quite soon, as well.

Does anyone know if Anthony Alford will be sticking with baseball fulltime this year or still heading back to school for football???

He transferred to Ole Miss to play football from Southern Miss, which largely killed the likelihood that he'd commit full-time to baseball in the near future. That massively undercuts the chances of him making it...it also undercuts his chances of making it as a football player. Doing the two-sport thing post-draft is, IMO, very silly in general; the first couple years out of high school are extremely important, especially for raw athletes like Alford, and he's missing a tonne of reps.

Barreto reached in two of 4 PA's again last night. He also had another two error game. Would be interesting to get a first hand account of his fielding.

Hobson homered in his first game at AA while Chung went 0-3 with a BB. I believe that Norris is supposed to start today for the Fisher Cats.

4 errors in 5 games isn't exactly great, but I'm looking forward to the day we develop our very own 5'9" 175 pound DH. We've got plenty of options on Lind, hopefully Franklin moves fast. :D

I do have a weird question, do Venezualans typically play DSL? I don't see Gudino or Freddy Rodriguez on the DSL team, isn't that the most likely place for them to be? It couldn't matter less, but all the short season stuff will be in swing by the weekend so I'm paying more attention right now than I usually do.

I guess it would depend on how advanced the prospect is and whether the organization thinks they're ready for the GCL. Barreto for instance signed in the summer of 2012 and began playing in 2013 in the GCL at the age of 17.

Yeyson Yrizarri is another 17 year old venezualen SS that was ranked 1 spot ahead of Gudino by BA. He's played in the DSL and has fared quite well.

If you do an milb.com search for Gudino and Rodriguez it lists them on the DSL team. BA said that both have the ability to start the year in the GCL. I'd guess that since they haven't played in the DSL that they must be in Florida.

I did that search and saw the DSL thing with no stats. I thought that might mean they came to extended then get sent to DSL when everyone goes off to short season, or just that milb had to assign them a league when they put them into their system and guessed.

Could be either. I noticed that milb also has Hansel Rodriguez assigned to the GCL roster with Patrick Murphy
