We have a better option at the 2.
To be clear, I only advocate for players to play in comparison to other players at their position. I wouldn't want Amare playing if there were viable alternatives.

First off JR and "better option" shouldn't be used in the same sentence.
And I strongly believe Cole Aldrich is a better option than Amare. The only thing Amare does better than Cole is score. Cole rebounds better, defends better, he a higher motor, and is a smart basketball player.
JR is shooting 25% from 3...he's is not a better option at this point.

What is there to evaluate?????
The whole team sucks except for Carmelo.
Shumpert needs to play like this all year, before we can say he is any good.
Everyone else sucks.

Cole is a better defender than Amare, and should play the 5 exclusively.
Amare should play the 4 and Jason Smith probably shouldn't play at all.
If we win games this year, it will be with our offense.

Tim's offensive production isn't really in question. If that's where his value to other teams is, it will remain there.
The issue is that he can't play with Amare on top of being unable to defend his position. That alone pretty much gives the nod to JR more often than not.
If I'm coaching Amare would never see the floor as it is.
I don't get how you can kill THjr defense and then you want Amare to play when he is just as bad and is even in a more crucial position to be a better defender.
I can hide a weak wing defender. You really can't hide a weak big man.
you could but not at center when you have jason smith at power forward. it's the most ridiculous defensive duo ever.

But Cole's a 5 and Amare is a 4. I think what GONYK is saying, and I agree, is that Amare should not play the 5 - unless, maybe, when the other team is playing small and we have Acy or Melo playing the 4. Forget about Jason Smith and Amare every playing together again.

simple question through the first 9 games who has been better?
THjr or JR
I'm trying to be as rational as possible. I am not even a THjr fan but there are know stats to back up that JR has been a better player so far this year meaning he doesn't deserve more minutes. I thought JR deserved more to start the year and he has again proven to me he doesn't with his awful shooting. His main job is to score and JR has been doing a terrible job of that.

Are we really complimenting Shump after he got absolutely torched by Evan Fournier last night?
I mean holy-crap - the French kid tore him up like he was Tony Parker. Drives, cuts, 3-pointers -- Shump was exposed big time -- he looked like Timmy out there.

Amare hasn't been playing the 4 all year. How many times have you seen Amare with Dalembert.
When Jason Smith is in the game Jason Smith plays the 4 and Amare plays the 5.
Amare has played the 5 the entire season. Outside of the first game where he started vs the bulls.

JR is shooting 26% from 3 this year
who is shooting better?
coming off the bench is a certain mindset as it is, now you are asking him to just sit the entire 1st half. And come out hot in the 2nd half after not playing?
you being a bit harsh on the kid.
