Itd be an opt-in-and-trade, similar to Chris Paul:

SmartWentCrazy wrote:
Basically, Horford and KD agree to an opt-in-and-trade:

Bos sends: Horford and Brown
GS sends: Durant

Kerr gushed over Horford and he would be a perfect fit for them at the 5 post-Boogie. Jaylen Brown gives them a nice piece to build long-term. This gives them two solid pieces for a player who’d elsewise be leaving.

Second deal:

Bos sends: Hayward, Tatum and as many first as needed
NO sends: AD

Boston rolls with a Kyrie-Smart-KD-AD core with as many ring chasing vets as needed.

Swing big, Danny—lets get this **** done. Maybe this is KG part two, only KD is our ‘Ray Allen’ move.

So KD opts in, then the GSW trades him for Horford or Hayward with possible other assets (draft pick?).

I think the Kyrie thing has just pretty much been sour here all year. Since the Knicks moved Porzi and suddenly could take on Kyrie and KD (and even maybe AD!?!), that likely changes Kyrie's perspective dramatically (hence the not so seemly celebration with Dad at MSG on Friday) and thus KD's interest likely also shifting--though they want to keep backup bidders going if they can, too. Dark horse competitor? The Clips, with Danny possibly even greasing the skids to keep them out West by shipping Kyrie to Doc.

Im sure theyd rather Horford and Brown than lose Kd for nothing.

But that is unlikely to be a binary choice.

Not 100% sure on that one either. They could lose KD for nothing and the Celtics fall apart at the same time. You do this deal and basically pave the way for a Kyrie/AD/KD trio in Boston.

Are we their top competition? Durant could make a half dozen teams top competition by signing with them.. The Mavs - who can clear room - the Lakers - the Sixers - hell, even the Nets could max Durant and have a relatively easy trade path to creating 20 million in space or trading for a power forward.. Dinwiddie/Russell/Durant/Aaron Gordon/Jarrett Allen, with Napier, Levert, Joe Harris, RHJ off the bench?

We would be with Kyrie/AD and Durant without question.

Meh, I think he’d jump for joy at playing with GS, but we can make it work woth Smart and fillers, too.

Tough to work out the details - both guys agree to opt in and are straight-swapped? It would be a nice save for the Warriors, and could probably let them max Klay, who's likely to walk if they don't pony up.

I dont see a GS with Curry-Klay-JB-Dray-Horf-Iggy-Livingston being afraid of anyone.

Here’s the thing, I know you have to trade at least one of Tatum or Brown for AD. I really don’t want to trade both though. I’ve gone back and forth on this, but I really think DA should be able to hold onto one of them. If not, I don’t agree to the deal without keeping the Memphis pick.

This AD stuff has kinda burnt me out, so I’m honestly not even that upset if he doesn’t go to Boston. I like our guys and feel like they’re starting to figure it out. Internal development and low-cost veteran additions is underrated imo.

I’d be feeling a lot better if one of our picks fell in the Ja Morant range. Maybe if the NBA rigs it so that LA gets AD and NY gets Zion, Kyrie and AD, they can rig it for us to get Ja as a consolation prize.

The next five days are crucial - if the wrong trades go down, Sacramento has a shot at the playoffs, LA at the lottery - both would be a disaster for us.

KD, AD, and Kyrie definitely seems like Ainge’s master plan since he’s always been after Durant and Davis. Same 2 players I always wanted on the Celtics as well. It’s possible, just need some the guys to buy into the idea and there’s no way Davis would then leave the Celtics. It’s why it’s important for the Celtics to make this Davis situation go past the deadline to explore all options.

Honestly, KD and AD arent certainties..despite my confidence we will land AD.

That said, Kyrie is the one that's here, and right now, most my mental energy as a fan is just on hoping we resign him

Houston had ways to clear cap space— we dont.

That's not actually true.. - https://www.sbnation.com/nba/2017/6/28/15886854/chris-paul-houston-rockets-trade-no-cap-space-nba-free-agency - they needed to dump one of Beverly or LouWill for no money back (probably possible), and do the same thing with Ryan Anderson (probably not possible). Chris Paul was going to opt out because the Clippers wouldn't give him a fifth-year max - he could have signed somewhere else, but he wanted Houston - they got him without clearing cap space, remember, they had Williams, Beverly, Dekker, Harrell, and then traded for or bought a bunch of minimum and non-guaranteed contracts to include in the deal. Not sure how they got around the 60-day trade restriction, is that in-season only? They basically turned 14 million into 20 million and traded for a 24 million dollar player.

So, yes, if Durant says he wants a trade to Boston or he'll opt out and sign somewhere else - and Horford is willing to trade places with him - Curry/maxed Klay/Iguodala/Dray/Horford has a depth crisis but is still a contender - there'd be a good chance of that happening.

The only thing I'm not clear on with the CP saga is how Morey was able to coordinate the deal - it happened at the end of June - the opt in/out deadline is usually at the end of the month. Was Paul's agent a go-between? Did the Clippers grant permission for Paul to talk to Morey?

Jackie has said a lot of random things over the years that never amounted to anything. That being said, Durant loves Kyrie as a player. And if Kyrie was smart, he’d recruit KD. On the other hand, Kyrie said him and AD are like brothers. If Kyrie were smart, he’d also be recruiting AD. So Kyrie has the powers to make this work. I just don’t know why I don’t trust him to do so.
Only if Kyrie had a little more DWade in him.
