Would be similar to LA’s haul for AD. KAT is already a top 3-4 big man in the league (behind AD and Jokic but at the same levee as Embiid) and would look even better in Miami, where Bam can facilitate and guard the opposing teams best big.

Towns in Miami? You are kidding right? Towns tried to get Thibodeau fired WHEN THEY WERE WINNING because he didn't like being cussed or yelled at, you know, the things Butler talks about being good in Miami, keeping people accountable and understanding it's about getting better and it's not personal. Bam, Robinson, Nunn, and Herro have mentioned this too and said it's helped them in their development.

Good lord, Towns just forced the Timberwolves to trade for his friend, Towns is a HIGHLY talented guys who just wants to do things his way with friends while being paid the max. He's like a nice version of Cousins in Sacramento, so talented but just wanted to do things his way and kept that small market hostage.

But KAT Probably wont be made available to trade until his last year on his contract when he most likely tells Minnesota he's not sticking around.

I heard that Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler don't get along that well, but if they can solve their problems, Karl-Anthony is the perfect player to pair with Giannis Antetokounmpo. If Antetokounmpo joins the Heat in free agency, we could trade Adebayo for Towns. While Karl-Anthony Towns is unavailable, I wonder how much a younger Adebayo, better center with a 5-year contract can move the needle for Minnesota.

Karl-Anthony Towns
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Jimmy Butler
Tyler Herro
De'Aaron Fox? / Duncan Robinson

 I completely forgot about that whole Jimmy Timberwolves thing

Loved the Game of Zones episode on Jimmy and the Wolves

I doubt that was true, but maybe. Also there were major issues during the season before that alleged situation.

You made a very attractive proposal for the team roster. It is very intriguing. If we use Duncan Robinson in the starting five, defense will be a problem and if we use De'Aaron Fox we are short of shooters. De'Aaron Fox is 22 years old and can improve enough to be respected by the opposing defense. The good thing about his contract is that we could easily trade him for the right player in case it doesn't work out.

If we can avoid that kind of drama, we should. However, we are not talking about Minnesota and Thibodeau, we are talking about Miami and the great Pat Riley.

https://www.nbadraftjunkies.com/precious-achiuwa

Some stuff that stuck out to me:

I’m high on him as a prospect because of his versatility and I see him as multi dimensional weapon that can be difference maker if he goes to the right team. He’ll need a that places a strong emphasis on player development and a creative coaching staff that will used him to exploit mismatches..

I feel his real value in the NBA will be as a switchy versatile defender than can defend multiple positions.

Achiuwa thrives and is at his best when he’s running the floor making plays in the open court. He consistently sprints the floor with aggression and projects to be an elite rim runner and transition scorer on the next level...

What he lacks in aesthetics and feel for the game he more than makes up for it with her energy and effort. At the minimum I believe he can effective as blue collar high energy offensive rebounder that creates second chance points and extra possessions for team.

Achiuwa's ability to put the ball on the floor and attack rim is just one of the reasons why I’m higher on him than most.

He has the ball handling and quickness to get to the rim off dribble penetration. I feel has the skill set to create problems by attacking the rim on straight line drives.... I believe if used properly, he could exploit mismatches with his speed especially if he’s getting the opportunity to play minutes as a small ball 5....

That open-floor athleticism... how many times last season did we force a turnover only to get nothing out of it in transition. So frustrating

On offense, his unpolished, high-motor garbage man role with the quickness/handles for explosive straight-line drives sounds like a Montrezl Harrell comp. Defensively... I feel like I'm reading a Bam scouting report

If Achiuwa can merely become a poor man's Harrell on O and a poor man's Bam on D... that's a pretty nice role player for our squad

Based on what I've reviewed for the past two hours (such a bum after draft night, lol) he's not likely to be a poor man's anything. I think we'll realize real fast what kind of defensive dynamic duo we have in Bam and Achiuwa.

The point you brought up about transition is the real key here. Many who're looking at this pickup might not realize the value he's about to bring. Though labeled a big, he's been raised as a wing in his basketball career thus far. He only played as a big once Wiseman left and he had to. The role fit him well, but it doesn't exactly speak to his open floor ability and skill set in transition. Now Bam has help on the boards and on defense. One of those two will be able to grab the ball and push it up the floor as fast as need be. Our transition game should be impacted greatly. No longer will our guards have to be responsible for rebounding the ball. They can now get down the floor for easier buckets. That will help our offense a lot.

I would also add that now, we can get 34 minutes of full energy Bam just because his backup will no longer force Miami into playing Iguadola, Crowder or Salomon Hill at the 5 for defensive purposes, rushing Bam back on the court. I mean, even KO becomes more valuable as a stretch 5 since now someone else can hide his defensive limitations besides Bam. Offensively is where I would be interested to see how he fits. Maybe next to KO like in Bam's first two seasons with KO as the playmaker and Precious the slider?

I am pumped. We still need Nunn and/or Herro to take the next step. Our guard play outside of Dragic was shaky during the finals.

Yes. Riley spoke about that in his post draft presser. Bam needed help. That was brought up a lot on the boards over the season as well. Bam is a human being and would get gassed. Anybody would with the way he plays defense. The guys insane. We now have two Bams, for sake of a better term. Imagine if we did get Giannis too?

Squeezing out super small ball is such a great thing for us moving forward. I'd take a swing at Serge, but Aaron Baynes might be the most cost effective purchase, if available at all. We almost won the whole thing last year with zero help for Bam defensively and PGs who couldn't make stops.

As for PA on offense, I think that's going to take some seasons. Initially, just let the kid offensive board and take wide open shots. He has a good handle though, so I'd guess that wouldn't have to last too long, as soon as he can start to visualize how his game fits with the spots he'll be given by the defense.

Elfrid Payton just got released from the knicks along with Portis and Gibson. Wonder if Elfrid would be a fit here? I know some also wanted Portis to play next to Bam

That would be some team; that Fox part isn't possible, in fact I'm not sure if we'd be able to retain both Herro and Robinson in such a scenario-- But yea', Towns/Giannis/Jimmy would be some trio-- if possible

Spoelstra has a lot of Thibodeau's qualities, it's why Butler loves both Thibodeau and Spoelstra, Miami is essentially the same environment/culture as Chicago was under Thibodeau.

Thibodeau just happened to be in 2 bad situations.
- Chicago Thibodeau was hired by the owner against the FOs wishes, they had to make ownership hate him to get rid of him and did. They also tried to trade Thibodeau to Memphis and actually named his successor a year before he was fired. Chicago is a horrible franchise that didn't deserve MJ. That same FO refused to retain Ron Adams for "basketball reasons" and then win 3 straight assistant coach of the year in Golden State.

Oh, and there was this also the thought that the FO was bugging the office....
According to Wojnarowski, a visiting scout made his way to a Bulls practice this season and watched Thibodeau and GM Gar Foreman interact awkwardly (which shouldn't really surprise anyone who's ever seen either of them in an interview). The scout made his way into the office of one of the assistant coaches and asked "What the hell is the deal here?" Instead of an immediate answer, the coach turned on his fan to the highest setting before saying "I'm not taking any chances," in the event that the team was listening in like the freakin' FBI.

https://www.complex.com/sports/2015/05/chicago-bulls-assistant-coach-office-bug

Minnesota, Glen Taylor(the owner) used a 3rd party to pick the coach and also offered up the President of Basketball Operations to Thibodeau which he took but the 2 were never on the same page. Glen Taylor refused to let Thibodeau to trade Wiggins for Butler(which was reported), had it happened the trade would have been Wiggins and Dunn for Butler but since Wiggins was off the table, LaVine was allowed to be traded because he wasn't to be back till half way through the season, Dunn and swap of draft picks, giving up their 7th overall pick for 16th. Minnesota could have rolled out Teague, LaVine, Butler, Markannen(7th), and Towns. The owner was the one who gave Wiggins the max(went through the media to tell Wiggins he's getting the max) and the next year, Thibodeau used him like a role player, not anywhere near a max player although Wiggins still jacked up the ball a great amount of the time he touched it.

I think people are going to be surprised with Thibodeau in New York, he knows how to win games when he doesn't have to placate to players and should have the people above him on his side for the first time.... then again there is Dolan but he seems hands off, he just made bad hires previously.

Meh

1 PG that can't shoot
1 headcase
1 Old energy big

Can't decide which I find less attractive.

I guess Payton is the least horrible addition to us, he can kinda defend.

Wayne “Golden Arm” Ellington was let go as well. Maybe a cheap replacement if we were to trade Herro/Robinson

We don't have 50 roster spots, go after players we need like Payton. We actually have a chance at being a top 5 defense during the 2020-21 season.

Return to Miami Heat
