Scottie is doubtful with a sprained right thumb. He's probably out for a week.

I still get pain in a thumb I sprained 15 years ago. Hopefully he's shut down and red shoelaced for two weeks.

Once you win a championship, people's perception of those players are wayyyyyyy increased. If lowry didn't win that championship, we would've still be whining about how he falls short in the playoffs, or some other complaint. This board were asking for Ibaka to be traded, disappointed with hiring Nick Nurse, even whining about trading derozan.

I would say the Raptors can be more of a mid- tier contender (e.g. Jazz or trailblazers) as early as 1-2 years, and one or 2 pieces away from being top end contenders. Also the talent is somewhat comparable to the 2019 team (talent and potential only, not playoff experience)

Lowry > FVV (but that gap is on a decreasing trend given FVV's fast development into a tone-setting primary PG). You forget how many sub-Lowry performances lowry had throughout his playoff career. FVV is arguably more clutch in big games than Lowry.

Siakam = Siakam
Gasol = we legitimately need a Gasol replacement. We need a defensive, reasonably passing big (not necessarily with Gasol's resume). We can probably get that over the next couple of years from Europe or through some trade.

Precious < Ibaka (but can develop roughly into an Ibaka-type impact player over the next 2 years)
Delano + Svi > Mccaw + Lin
Boucher = Boucher

Just focusing on the centers, not the whole comparison argument: the thing about Marc and Serge was, in addition to their superior skills to what we have now, they were both much bigger. We need 7 footers.

I wish, as that "reasonably passing" Gasol replacement, we had signed Kelly Olynyk this summer. 6'11, can shoot from the top of the circle, not the passer Marc was but decent, a big body to play against opposing bigs, and a Canadian who's still only 30 to boot. He'd have been so perfect for us, and he's wasted on bad teams like Detroit and Houston.

agreed on Olynyk. I mean, honestly, any average true center at this point would be an upgrade for certain matchups. I would trade any of our non-core assets, i.e. boucher, khem, yuta, svi, malachi (although we need a backup PG). Not saying you can get huge value for these guys easily, but hopefully some masai magic to find some diamond in the rough.

depends on the type of sprain. Worst case it's torn ligament and he is out for 3 months. Mild sprain might only be 10 days.

Either way I'm not sure why he is listed as doubtful. That they doing a precautionary MRI definitely doesn't sound good though.

Among many pathways in entering in to the league and climbing front office ranks (e.g. Agent, Businessman, Lawyer, former player), it was Masai that came in to the NBA as an unpaid scout. He cut his teeth in this area and got his break as a scout. I think its no accident that the Raptors' draft success has been moulded around his vision and skillset in this area.

And trade success. And low end FA acquisitions (e.g. Svi) Many are quick to let Bobby share the credit, but he's a cap space nerd. Still very necessary in a successful franchise, and he may be learning some scouting tricks from Masai and Dan Tolzman. But it will never be his strength. Masai is the leader in that regard.

It was interesting to hear lately of the contrast in styles between Masai and Dan. Masai wants the longer types, Dan wants the skills. Malachi apparently was a Dan pick. But I can't remember who really wanted Siakam at #27. Not sure it was made clear in that Open Gym draft episode.

Siakam was a Masai swing for the fences pick, Poeltl was the safe analytics pick

And how does blocking a single shot mean that Green is locking up Donovan Mitchell on defense? The media wants Green to be the ROTY, but to this point Scottie is the actual ROTY and it's not relatively close.

While I actually changed my opinion on Barnes vs Suggs like days (if not hours) after the draft, I've been blown away by his play so far.

So glad to have him on our team.

You should have changed it days before the draft. Better late than never though, so I give you credit for that.

90% of the ppl here probably wanted Suggs. There were like 2 posters who were pro Barnes.
