I can tell someone on the bench whispered to McCain that Dillingham who's been barking at him is a string bean. He's been way more physical the last few possessions putting his body into him. It hasn't amounted to much but positive sign he didn't back down.

Geez McCain honestly, is not even an NBA player. He will be out of the league in three or four years. Bona however has some potential.

McCain to me feels like someone that would play better in a structured system surrounded by better players. He is physical, yes, but his lack of length and high end athleticism will likely prevent him from ever being a reliable on the ball scorer.

His advantages will come from capitalizing off of elite players gravity. Either shooting from kick outs or leveraging that into putting that on the floor and taking advantage of a scrambling defense. I also don't think he's playing all that poorly.

Bona has been decent as a rim deterrent. Nice to see him knocking down his FTs as well.

All of McCain's jumpers are coming up short, course they did play last night so it could be fatigue

Either way he's looking very average out there now.

Really gotta relax, man. Not high on McCain but there's nothing in this game that would suggest anything like this. He's just doing random SL things out there, driving into triple teams and stuff, and he's looked fine handling and creating (besides the driving into triple teams). I think these games have told us almost nothing about McCain as a NBA guy.

There’s actually no one on this summer league roster that will contribute anything this year and that’s a good thing

Yeah, hard to fight against Negadelphia mentalities. If you tell a player he sucks, he probably will suck.

If he was on the Lakers, they would still be calling him the next Steph Curry regardless of how he looks in SL.

Bona looks closer to 6'7 than 6'9. Great energy but not a very good rebounder, foul machine but good shot blocker, solid finisher, looks a little raw on both ends.
Should probably watch alot of Montrez and Bam tape.
I don't see him being anything more than a energy big depending on matchup.

So far I’m encouraged by Justin Edwards. He’s showing flashes.

Could easily see him developing into a rotation wing in a couple years.

I don't understand all the doomerism about McCain...

Yeah, the shot is not falling but he's being guarded like a first option which he is not, and is doing more than what he would be required to do on this team on a small sample.

He's showing more on ball than whatever was advertised which is highly encouraging too.

I don't expect him to get too many minutes this year anyway, so it's whatever.

McCain has alot to develop in his game, but I definitely wasn't prepared for his bumping and grinding drives. I was just expecting a spot up shooter, but he was showing (dare I say) a little Brunson in his game.

In a bench role, which will be small, he should be better than this role of being the main target they are defending. Right now, he might be the 10th man off the bench, hate this early is just that....too early

At least for me, it’s just whether someone drafted after him would contribute to winning in the playoffs (assuming McCain doesn’t contribute himself). If not, then it doesn’t really matter imo. But I think people underrate how important a role player can be in a series. The Knicks beat us, not really because of Brunson imo, but because their role players stepped up. So like if Da Silva would have given us 10 key minutes in the second round or something, that might matter (I don’t know if I’ll ever forget Greg Monroe coming in for game 7 against the raptors and playing two minutes and fouling Lowry for a 3 point play for no reason). Every minute and point matters. We’ll see though. I’m rooting for the kid.

most rookies generally don't contribute to winning in the playoffs. People will point to Lively but hes a rim running big playing off of two great creators. The idea is that McCain's spot up shooting (something that is hard to show in the thrown together nature of summer league) gets him spot minutes and then his work ethic adds on from there. He gets to learn from Lowry, Gordon and Maxey on being smaller guards and HOPEFULLY by playoff time he has added to his game and body to make up for his flaws. That is basically what Morey said after the draft

idk if that works but my guess thats the idea behind it

Way too early to be trashing McCain. It's also not far fetched to assume that Council won't be seeing the floor this year. He most definitely will be part of our ten man regular season rotation.

McCain has shown more on ball ability than I expected, he makes smart reads, has good instincts, and he’s competitive. I like that we’re seeing a lot of 6-7 rebound games when his shot isn’t falling. I just think he’s had a cold stretch while also forcing some bad shots out of frustration with his play & the team’s lack of ball movement.
