i am starting to take a real disliking to any decent west coast team that loses to portland from here on out. today's rather directed at the nuggets.

Is anybody else starting to worry that once we beat the Pistons two straight last week to probably deny them a place in the playoffs they decided to tank the heck out of the rest of the season to deny us their pick this year? We need that pick!

They would need a major move this offseason to pull off a rise like that. If they want to keep Monroe which is what you keep hearing they will have to move Smith to make any rise. Also Jennings will need to be moved because he is not a good fit there for his price.

I have a little altar. On it is a photo of Lamarcus Aldridge. I light candles every night while chanting 'LOLcats' and smear the photo with raw chicken in the hopes that he gets some sort of benign, long-term, salmonella-related illness. Nothing too severe mind you - but severe enough to say keep him in bed for 2 months.

I'm just wondering if people realize that DET is quickly dropping into an area where we do not get their pick, and if that happens, then our first pick will be the POR pick in the mid-20s, and CHA mgmt will look incredibly stupid for not ensuring we kept our pick this year, and you can kiss the whole James Young vs. Doug McDermott argument goodbye, and start debating the merits of Semaj Christon vs. Wayne Seldon?

Maybe it's just me but I have a ton of faith in the Knicks and everyone below the Pistons staying below the Pistons except for the Cavs. pick will be 9th or lower down the draft. There is a brick wall to 8 built by Raymond Fatlon and the dysfunctional Knicks.

They've actually been tenth for awhile, but it's definitely getting closer. Lots of variables though:

- Cavs will likely catch them and will possibly take the eighth seed.
- Knicks could put a few together and catch them.
- Jazz are playing well and could also overtake them.

On the other hand:

- Pelicans have been just as bad, currently tied with Detroit in the win column and cling to a half-game advantage. Davis also got hurt last night.
- Nuggets have also hit a tough stretch.
- Hawks are in free-fall, likely concede the eight spot to Cleveland, Detroit, or NY ()
- Nets have Jason Kidd as a coach.
- Wizards are playing well post-Nene, will be interesting to see if they keep it up.

And of course, we have a terrible stretch coming up ourselves.

If I had to guess I'd say Cleveland and maybe Utah catches them, but New Orleans and maybe Atlanta fall below. Still 24 games left to hash this out.

I would honestly relish in the outlook that the 2015 Detroit 1st rounder is only top-1 protected. I have a distinct feeling that the Pistons will be worst next season than they are this year after destructing their roster a bit to rebuild, and this draft class of 2014 was totally overrated in terms of talent and lack of transcending talent. The draft class of 2015 will be PF heavy with players that'll fit into Charlotte's future core. Going into next season as the Hornets will virtually the same roster to build upon isn't really that bad. Continuity is just as good as adding talent sometimes

You also have to consider if you were the team holding a top-1 protected pick from the Pistons, would you trade it for James Young?

Hell no, you'd want Jabari Parker.

as long as Detroit is within a few games of that 8th spot, they will keep playing hard. that alone should keep them out of that bottom 8, at least for a few more weeks.

worst case scenario, we will have a top 1 protected pick from the pistons in 2015, at team that really doesnt look like they will sort out their mess in the offseason. i think that pick would be very valuable this summer if we needed to include it in a trade to get a really good player or two.
