Re: Summer Runs and Random Player Sightings
Deangelo Russel is pure garbage. There's a reason this dude was benched in the playoffs for the Lakers in the WCF. Zero interest in him.
If we want to find a replacement at PG after FVV leaves...I say we go for Tyus Jones. He's really really good and has breakout potential as a starter somewhere
I think Tyus Jones can be better than FVV and will be far cheaper

Why?
Russell would be an interesting fit in an up tempo system with a lot of movement and shooting and cutting. His best scoring year came with the Warriors. He’d also create some more interesting scenarios since he can post up unlike Fred.
That being said, he’s a bonafide chucker with bad shot selection, and he also takes nights off regularly where he doesn’t put in max effort. Guy seems to have maturity issues, and hasn’t really improved all that much since he came into the league.

You said YOU wouldn't wanna pay Russell more than 18 mill. My question is, you'd rather pay fvv what he wants than give a similar contract to Russell?
Not sure where you got that from. I've said that I think FVV is a valuable player in a certain role, but wouldn't want to pay him what it seems he'll be asking for.
I asked a question I didn't make a statement, hence, "my question is..." reason I asked that question is I'm not sure how their market values aren't similar.
I guess we'll see. But Russell is a guy who has been traded three times in the past few years, including at the deadline in a multi-team deal that mostly included middling players or way-past-their-prime players. I just think his value around the league has declined significantly.
Also, not to get too semantic about it, but your formulation of "you'd" as in "you would" rather than "would you" appears to pre-suppose what my position already was.

Players like DLo should be run out of the league. Plenty of younger, cheaper, hungry guys looking for a chance. Teams need to stop recycling trash just to get 1 good game out of 10.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

No team has kept Russell for more than 3 seasons. He's not a good basketball player and the fact some would rather have him over Fred just shows people have an inability to think objectively here.

Re: Summer Runs and Random Player Sightings
I have liked Russell as a replacement for FVV because he has a few things in his favor.
Age: 27 vs 29
Size: 6'5 vs 6'0
3P%: 40% vs 34%
Pick and roll - Russell can use his size on inverted pick and rolls to screen for bigs. Overall he is an excellent passer in pick and roll and has been reliable to make good reads. Him and Gobert did not get along which us why he was traded. Darko is a pick and roll expert and should be able to use DLo well.
Cost: Russell $80m vs FVV $120m
You could frontload Russell close to what Feed will get in year one and get a prospect plus a pick from LA to make the trade. Saves Toronto long term money especially if they want to re-sign OG and Siakam.

D'Lo averaged ~ 17 ppg, 6 apg and shot 47% fg and 40% 3pfg while playing 31 mpg and 71 games on both the Lakers/Wolves last season
FVV averaged - 19 ppg, 7 mpg and shot 39% fg and 34% 3pfg while playing close to 37 mpg and 69 games on the Raptors last season.
Fred definitely gets his hands on more steals and might be a smarter player...but D'Lo is more efficient. Give D'Lo the minutes Fred played and the stats are probably better.
I don't think D'Lo is a bad player but he shouldn't be making Jordan Poole/Tyler Herro type money. If you can get him for less than 4 years 130 million...he might be an ok option.
FVV averaged - 19 ppg, 7 mpg and shot 39% fg and 34% 3pfg while playing close to 37 mpg and 69 games on the Raptors last season.

D'Lo is the perfect example of why boxscore stats aren't everything. There is a reason why this guy was barely playing as the Lakers got deeper into the playoffs. Minnesota essentially traded this guy for a 36 year old, injury-prone Mike Conley. lol.

At the right price and role...he isn't a bad player. That's all I'm saying. If he isn't looked upon to be a primary or secondary offensive option...he can fit on a team. He doesn't have that 'bet on yourself' selfishness so that is a start.

That "Bet on Yourself" selfishness has played on the same team for 7 years and is universally respected around the league by both players and coaches. So he must be doing something right.
There is clearly a few things that NBA teams don't like about Russell which is why they are so eager to trade him. I'd stay away.

There are many guys who bounce around the league before finding the right situation. Who thought Lauri Markannen would be an all-star after being on 2 other teams?

Take it from someone who was very critical of Fred last season, DLo is a much worse basketball player. Dude should be playing in a 3v3 league. He's not a starting calibre player on a winning team anymore.
