Next year... As long as we suck. I'm so glad the Spurs got the pick this year. Rookie of the year is going to be Mike Miller level.

Who knows, only time can tell.

But considering we drafted a player who is a terrible fit for our roster currently, I would say he was the BPA to our FO.

There’s really only one guy on the roster we should worry about fitting with. In general fit isn’t the best primary drafting motivation; for rebuilding teams it’s even less meaningful. The car lacks an engine atm, it’s counter-productive to worry about whether the seat covers match at this point imo.

When he was being interviewed, he thanked God for making this happen. I feel that he will be a good player for the Raptors, but I'm just not into injecting religion into sports, politics and general life.

Oh. That I didn't know. I wasn't watching the draft at all. Just following and posting like a mad man in the first draft thread last night. Avoided getting a warning and ban as well

Bobby pretty much confirmed they drafted for BPA instead of fit, rightfully so

Just my 2 cents,

I probably watched Walter around 8-10 times during the season, and he was firmly placed in my top 10, and there where times I really contemplated putting him in my top 5. He's a guy who can come in right away and contribute, and he has some of the highest potential in this draft.

He was asked to create his own shot off the dribble quite a bit during his time at Baylor, which isn't quite his game. He's a guy you want running around screens, and then catching and shooting. He has a killer pump fake, which is why he has such a great free throw rate for a shooter. Stylistically he plays like Rip Hamilton. He's an off ball scoring threat who has the ability to draw fouls.

Im not worried about his percentages at all, because he has all the makings of a great shooter. He's always square, he gets good lift, and he shoots the same way every single time, he really is a text book shooter. At the NBA level, with his current skillset he's going to be used as an offball threat rather than on the ball, and I really do think the percentages will back it up. Raptor fans are going to love this pick, dude is a competitor.

He looks good as a catch and shoot, transition pull up shooter. I even think he’s got ball handling potential with some change of pace dribble moves. Don’t think he’s necessarily an advantage creator at the nba level yet but could develop that with a lot of work. I’d say it’s not a bad idea if we let Gary Trent walk if it frees up some time for this kid.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

I think Ja’Kobe may be a better prospect than Gradey, Keyonte George and Jordan Hawkins

The first of Dick, Hawkins, or Walter that develops a handle will be the first all star of the group if there are any.

GTJ sucks. I expect Dick to outplay him this season.

Gary sucks bro and is the least valuable player type. A non play making guard with no size, no positional versatility on both ends, poor defender, no consistency and low IQ. He is a one trick pony bench player that wants to be overpaid on a team with a bunch of SGs. Love Gary as a person but bye. We are done being a home for scrubs. He can join Precious and Flynn in the complete disappointment category.

He's a career 39% 3pt shooter in 6 seasons on 6 attempts/night and only 25. Letting him walk for nothing is a mismanagement of assets. Better to keep him as a starter/6th man on a tradable contract.

Watching his highlights he looks like he could be an off ball threat with his ability to catch and shoot the 3 while on the move. Will be fun to see him build chemistry with our guys.
I like you.

It’s not hate.

He was praised coming into the draft as a 20 and 10 guy with Pau Gasol comparisons.

He hasn’t lived up to the hype and deserves the criticism coming his way.

I recall the draft coverage that year and nobody said that. Most said he was nba eady without much upside. + rebounder with a soft touch around the rim as he played volleyball but i never heard Gasol comparisons.

For him to be a tradable asset he needs to sign a 3 year deal max with no player options at the MLE max or else he will be a negative asset that no longer gets minutes as the roster gets better and can't be traded like Duncan Robinson. The Raptors have tried trading Gary for a while now but he isn't worth much cause he simply isn't that good.
