All in all great season considering you got as far as you did with the lowest payroll roster in the league

It felt great hearing "defense" chants in MSG again.
FO decided not to tank when they hired Thibs.
I am not gonna fault him for trying to win.
We all know this team lacks talent.
It would be nice Cade/Suggs playing next to RJ, Obi & IQ but FO chose different path.
One definite positive from this series is finding out Randle is not a max player and not even close.
He doesn't have characteristics of a winning player.
He did his part to increase his value so FO better do their part to maximize his value.
This off season should be interesting.
I expect franchise changing transaction to be done whether good or bad.
Ehh but he's MIP, that's a winning characteristic right there. Terrible in this series but who's to say he wont pull off another MIP ...playoff version?
I applaud Randle for what he has done this season and winning MIP.
MIP doesn't mean he is a winning player. Hedo Turgolu won MIP.
We all want to step up from this season.
I am just suggesting it would be wise move to deal Randle when his value is high.
Well his value has lowered after these playoffs. I’m willing to give him another opportunity to prove himself in next year’s regular season/playoffs before making a definitive assessment on him

I’m happy with the season as a whole. There’s a lot to build on, we have more clarity about who can do what, and the draft to look forward to.
I’m disappointed it was such a lackluster series in the end, but this is life.
Hawks did a great job. It’s a good example for Leon to look to.

The Bulls made a terrible trade for Vucevic and won't even have a draft pick at all if they don't win the lottery. We actually have more draft capital with our two first round picks than the hornets and pacers do. The Hornets have a nice player with LaMelo but Hayward will be an albatross. Nobody cares about the Pacers. Toronto I expect to bounce back next year when they get to play in their home arena again.
The Bulls still have assets, and their pick is top 4 protected. They have a player that would be the best player on our team by a big margin in LaVine. The Pacers have a lottery pick and Turner, the 19th and 21 don't have more value than that, and the Hornets don't need nearly as much as we do.
These teams all have more offensive talent than us, whether anyone cares about the Pacers is irrelevant when they have a PG and we don't.
I just don't see anything to envy about these teams and their situations in comparison to ours. Besides the Hornets having LaMelo. If the Bulls don't' win the lottery (80% chance they don't) I wouldn't be surprised if LaVine left next summer. He's also never made it to the playoffs in 7 years. Vucevic was a bad trade. The Pacers are locked into a treadmill and no free agents will ever go there.
Nothing to envy, yet you also say LaVine might leave, I wonder to where you have in mind
There are 4 teams who could all make a jump next season without the need of free agency, which is all that anyone seems to talk about here. The trade assets these teams have, are better than ours by result of them already having talent & getting a lottery pick. They don't need free agents as badly as we do.

Here is my two cents for the whole season. I’m proud we made the playoffs this year with our team. As far as playoffs we lost pretty bad but what makes this worst is the way we behaved as fans. We asked for that ass kicking front the way we acted. I’m passionate just like any other fan but some of the behavior on our end was pretty bad.

We have to go dumpster diving again. If we don’t mess the cap up we could potentially sign a Max player and another good piece in 2022. The only difference is we have a better idea of ways to improve internally and some of the young players will get older and Thibs might you know play them steady minutes. We also know certain things like we need bigger wings, and Randle can’t be the only focus of the offense, and Rose should be brought back.

We were the 4th seed and all those teams missed the playoffs. How will the pacers leap frog us simply by virtue of having the 13th pick when we have 19 and 21? Unless they win the lottery. You think whatever rookie they take 13th is somehow putting them over the top and our picks will be useless?

By building a culture and organization worth coming to, for starters.
I would say the probability of NY being a desirable place to play, if the organization proves competence, is about as high as losing all season, getting the odds to be in the top 3, and then picking the right 19 year old to be a generational talent.
Especially since we've built a FO with deep relationships around the league. Trades play out like FA. Players go where they want. Nobody forces their way to Portland or GSW or Charlotte or Toronto.
There are various avenues to improvement. How good one is over the other is how the franchise positions themselves to take advantage of the circumstances.
We've been singing this same song for a decade now, we need to build without having some unknown superstar free agent or trade as the backbone of our future. Everything people are saying here centers around stars being disgruntled or caproom, and there are no tier 1 superstars coming up in free agency so the caproom is moot. That means the only other avenues are the draft, or trading for one, and the trade will be difficult because there are teams with more assets than us.
And progression isn't linear, the Pistons made the playoffs a few years ago with some young talent, they won 44 games and then missed them the next two season and were in no mans land in the draft. Everyone just assumes we'll come back next year better, when we could presumably have the same hole at PG.

I think this is where we totally disagree. Cap room is an asset unto itself and is good for more than just signing FA's.
We hired someone who is known as one of the more creative minds in the league when it comes to manipulating and pushing the boundaries of what is possible within the cap structure. I think he can make use of it in many ways, in addition to our draft assets and upside youth.

Re: PG: Knicks-Hawks aka 1,2,3,Cancun! (Hawks win series 4-1)
Losing this series in the manner we did isn't what's bothersome since we clearly overachieved all year long.
What was really upsetting to watch was the lack of effort in an elimination game. I would've been totally fine if we got blown out by 30 points tonight and the team actually played with consistent effort. The lack of boxing out was a direct result of low level effort given by some of our key guys.
All in all it was an excellent season for them given the lack of expectations and the fact they ended up with HCA in the playoffs. It's still ok to criticize their lack of effort in this series, especially in the close out game.

We went .500 on that trip and then finished the season on a winning streak.
How did that trip kill us?
Look at the teams we beat and how we beat them. Other than the memphis and clippers game, we were the drizzling **** at the end. Beating **** teams by the skin of their teeth when we did.

We were 5th in the entire league in wins lost due to injuries. Yeah RJ and Randle were health. But every single other player in our rotation missed major time. Especially Rose and Mitch our 3rd and 4th best players.
