Smart & scraps ended up getting you Zinger, a 2024 late-mid first and 5 seconds. Brad did great in fixing the looming frontcourt problem and restocking the draft pantry. BTW, the 5 second-round picks, all likely to be in the top half of the round, beat a 25th pick. Once you get past the mid-first rounders, it's always a crap shoot.

It was a money dumping move.
-It was a money dumping move that allowed us to use the full taxpayer MLE. A veteran we can pay $5 mil to on the taxpayer MLE is more valuable to a contender than the 25th overall pick
-The guy we picked at 38 was higher on my draft board than the the guy Miami picked at 18, so by trading back, we still got a really good prospect. Walsh was arguably just as good (especially in terms of fit, with what this celtics team needs) as anyone who was still on the board at 25..we moved back 13 spots and still got him
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

Not sure if they're still available but some bigs we should look at as UDFA:
-Patrick Gardner
-Jack Nunge
-Jake Stephens
Also, let's get Joey Hauser on the summer league team, cause why the hell not? It's Sam's little bro. Surprise surprise, Joey has size and can shoot!

Re: 2023 NBA Draft, part 2 – Thurs, 8PM, June 22
As disappointed as I was over trading the 2023 #25 Pick (there will be NBA Players in the group from #25 and above, you will see); I guess I can see some reason to getting in Exchange:
2023 #38 Pick Jordan Walsh ???? What?
2025 Best 2nd Round Pick of Detroit, Washington or Golden State's
2026 Best 2nd Round Pick of New Orleans, New York or Portland
2027 Atlanta's 2nd Round Pick
But there were NBA players that will be rotation level players that were just passed over last night.

Gardner has an SL agreement with the Heat. Hauser signed with the Jazz as a two-way.

I don't watch college but this Walsh guy sounds exactly like Jarred Vanderbilt who everyone likes.

That last trade seemed to be Brad running out of gas, plain vanilla 2nd round pick?

Ah, bummer. Would have been cool if we had Joey on SL team, and Sam decided to play just 1 SL game so they could play together haha.

I hadn't thought of that one before, but that's actually a pretty good comp. Walsh is shorter and more of a wing (whereas Vando is a PF / small ball 5) but you could say Walsh is like a wing version of Vando, yeah.
Walsh (while obviously not a great shooter) is a better shooter than Vando was in college, too.

Juhann looks like a SG to me, and Walsh likely a SF.
I like them both. Begarin doesn’t get in your pants with you on defense the way Walsh does — he seems more of a “jump the passing lanes” defender.

not that it ever made much sense, but the "owners are cheap" line really looks pretty silly now after taking on KP while keeping JB.
They have to build some depth here and they don't have the money to do it without going into the tax.
If you go into the tax without resetting before Browns huge contract kicks in, then they're gonna have a really hard time figuring it out.

-I wouldn't say he's a worse offensive player.
-I also don't think Begarin factored in whatsoever to who we drafted with this pick. Begarin was the 45th pick, has played 0 NBA games, hasn't developed much in the 2 yrs since we drafted him. His 3 pt % has dropped in each of the past 2 seasons, since we drafted him
-Clearly, Brad likes taking guys (JD, Walsh, Begarin) who are really young, have NBA bodies, NBA level speed and athleticism, who play with good energy and he doesn't worry so much about their 3 pt %. Begarin and JD haven't worked out (yet), let's see if this one (Walsh) works out. And there's still time for JD and Begarin - they're both only 20 yrs old.

Ok, you go do that.
Either way, Walsh is still just as good (especially in terms of fit, and what this team needs) as anyone who was on the board at pick 25 - and he's better than the guy the Heat took at pick 18, imo.

Looks like Walsh is 2 inches shorter but has higher standing reach due to his wingspan. He's measured at 10 lbs. lighter but either way these guys are trading on length and high motor.

Semi is short and has short wingspan. His standing reach was 8'6, a half inch more than Derrick White.

Re: 2023 NBA Draft, part 2 – Thurs, 8PM, June 22
Jarred Vanderbilt can guard anyone (PG's included), and can stay in #1 Option's faces (watch him torment Luka).
It's a stretch to say someone's that good defensively, but if the chatter about Walsh is even close to Vanderbilt defensively, then Walsh has a place. But being able to stay with PG's and while having the size to pick up LeBron is so friggin rare that I still wonder about the comparison just made. I won't call out the poster because I hope he's right.

Jarred Vanderbilt isn't special lmao. He's got length, high motor, and decent lateral mobility. It's not a common combo but acting like that's some special unicorn player is just ridiculous.

The one thing that Walsh may help right away is in practice. We need someone to hound the **** out of brown and Tatum.
They need to practice beating that cause I have seen them wither to many times when someone gets in there shorts.
