Would hiring Mitchell do anything to enhance the chances at landing Bosh with a sign/trade? Wouldn't some combination of Brand/Speights/Kapono/Lou Will/Green put you around a max deal?? Not sure they are all that attractive to Bosh, but you never know how the free agency period will play out.

I hate ruling anything out but I think the prospects of Bosh coming to Philly is an impossibility.

Oh he should come once to twice a year, depending upon his division.

Without turning this into a trade thread would Thaddeus Young, Dalembert, Willie Green, and our sixth pick be enough to net Bosh?

No. Because Bosh is a FA, so no amount of players would net him, because he won't want to play here. And the more we give up in a sign and trade, the less he wold want to play for this team.
If they do a sign and trade it will be pennies on the dollar and be more about a small kick-back to Toronto in order to be able to add the extra year and higher raises to the max contract.

I hate Stiff as much or more than anyone here, but whenever he listens to the board it seems to backfire. Elton Brand, Kareem Rush, re-signing Iguodala.

Kate Fagan saying in the Inky this morning that Collins remains very much in the mix.
I would take him over Mitchell. Would rather have Laimbeer, though...

That's way too much to offer, which would make our resulting team even worse. If you want to go the "impossible trade that will never happen" route, they'd take Dalembert, Williams, Kapono, Green, and Smith for Bosh @ max, Calderon, and Hedo. You'd just need to get Bosh drunk and convince him that Philly is the place to be.

I don't know...the whole "The Bulls have no intention of interviewing Collins" part might be a roadblock to your Laimbeer love fest.

I don't have a problem with Collins going elsewhere. I can't say I know much about Collins as a coach to really have him as one of my top candidates.

Re: The Coaching Thread/SF76 Update: Page 35
Without re-hashing Collins' entire coaching career, his strengths are 1) working with young teams to improve fundamentals; 2) his teams almost always improve on the defensive end (in the case of both Chicago and Detroit, they improved materially); 3) he has had success working with talented, athletic swingmen (think Grant Hill in DET). Critics do not like the "pace" of his game (certainly a concern given the thought that the Sixers are best playing a fast-paced, transition-oriented game), and he did not have tremendous success in the playoffs (even though he took crappy mid-20's-win teams in CHI and DET to the 50+-win level, it never translated in the playoffs).
Unlike Avery Johnson - who was handed a 50+ win team in DAL and it could be argued that he underachieved badly relative to expectations - Collins took bad teams with young talent and - at least at CHI and DET - got them to play SIGNIFICANTLY better...particularly on the defensive end.

Re: The Coaching Thread/SF76 Update: Page 35
So essentially, he is a guy that can max out his team's capabilities with a disciplined and step by step approach. That being the case, is this the right time for a hire like that? I think I'd like to hire a lame-duck guy for a couple seasons until more development/lottery picks occur. Then I think we go out and make our max capabilities hire.

Other side of Collins:
1. Teams make a big jump his 1st year, then get burned out by his approach.
2. Not just slow pace, slowest pace of any coach in the modern era (I'm not using hyperbole, I read his teams had a slower pace than any other coach in the last 30 years.)
3. Does better with vets.
If you like LB you will like Collins. Both are good, defensive minded basketball coaches. Both do best with hard nosed vets. Both are a questionable fits for a young team with some athletes, not much BB IQ and are years away from contending.

Positives:
Collins’ track record of immediate improvement is tough to ignore. In his past three coaching stops, his teams have improved by 10, 18 and 18 games in his first season on the bench. With the talent Chicago has on hand, plus the first overall pick, there’s a good chance he’ll have a fourth straight double-figure victory improvement.
Collins brings a lot of strengths to the table. He’s a master of details, and one of the ways he got his teams to turn around so quickly was by fine-tuning all the little things — his teams were among the league’s best-prepared.
That carried over to the hustle side, too. Collins got his teams to compete and defend, as can be seen by the improvements in defensive efficiency at each stop.
By an odd coincidence, each team Collins took over was the worst defensive team in the NBA the year before he arrived, based on defensive efficiency. Unbelievably, Collins got two of those three teams into the top half of the league in his first year, with Chicago jumping from 23rd (last) to 11th and Detroit motoring from 29th to a shocking seventh. The effect wasn’t quite as strong with Washington — 29th to 21st — but it was there.
So, obviously the problem isn’t that Collins can’t coach. He can. The problem is that his strengths and weaknesses are a terrible match for the team he’s taking over.
Those strengths would make him a great fit for a lot of teams, especially teams that are struggling to defend.
Problems:
Problem No. 1: Pace
Collins might be the most extreme slow-pace coach in the past quarter century. I’m amazed nobody has brought this up yet — the guy makes Jeff Van Gundy look like Paul Westhead.
Problem No. 2: Youth
Collins’ history is that he gets an immediate jump from his team — then things level off in subsequent seasons.
There’s a reason for that. Few coaches in recent history have trusted young players less than Collins has.
Problem No. 3: Temperament
At each of his previous three stops, Collins’ constant harping wore out his players within three years.

tk:
Never heard the "he likes vets" comment about Collins...looking at the 2nd season coaching CHI and DET (where you could expect to see the biggest relative improvement from what he was selling), I don't know if that argument carries water...
1) 1987-88 Chicago Bulls (improved from 40 wins to 50 wins) -
Only one guy in the rotation was over the age of 27 (Dave Corzine, who was 31)...Jordan and Oakley were both 24, Sellers was 25, Paxson was 27...and two rookies (Pippen and Grant) averaged better than 20 minutes a game. Don't see a "vet-heavy" team here, bro...
2) 1996-97 Detroit Pistons (improved from 46 wins to 54 wins) -
Perhaps a better example of what you were saying in that there were a couple of over-30 guys in the lineup (Dumars and Thorpe), but the two leading scorers were Hill and Hunter (24 and 26, respectively) and a rookie named Theo Ratliff started 38 games for that team.
It looks to me like the blend of young guys and a couple of role-playing vets would fit well with what Collins has had success with in the past.

I could have coached that Bulls team to 50 wins... But overall you make good points.
I agree he is a good coach, just not sold on him for the Sixers.
But honestly, whomever Stefanski hires will be lucky to be around in 2 seasons.

Just bring in Westhead and call it a day. Give us something to watch for a couple years and see if we can score 200 on Golden State.

Whoever gets hired has there work cut out for them.
Mainly the team needs some personnell changes.
You'd think they would realize after how many coaches? That it might not be the coaches, but the same " core " of players that are the issue.

I hope Collins goes to Chicago. Actually I hope he stays with TNT because I love him as an analyst. He's top 5 in sports. But I don't want him here.
But I also don't want Sam Mitchell, and that is who Stiff is going to hire probably. He's a scared little *****.
Also, I love how no one wants to coach here. Look at what you did, Stiff. You made this place the Oakland Raiders of the NBA. You deserve whatever slop is left at the bottom of the barrel.
