Both teams were trading stars in that deal. Apples to oranges.

has anybody taken a look at John Wall's salaries over the next 5 seasons:

$19,169,800
$37,800,000
$40,824,000
$43,848,000
$46,872,000

and he's got a 15% trade kicker

yikes!!

Ah yeah, good point. How about this one?

Deron Williams for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors, and 2 future first-round picks (Enes Kanter and Alec Burks). Harris was subsequently swapped for Marvin Williams, who started about 100 games for Utah. Given Deron Williams' rapid decline and the moderate success of Favors, Burks, and Kanter with the Jazz, plus the fact that the Jazz get the Thunder's first-round pick this upcoming draft from the Kanter trade, this seems like a win for the Jazz. Not a smashing success, but a win nonetheless.

I also think Denver trading Allen Iverson for Chauncey Billups was very good (for Denver).

Denver got a bunch of rotation players for Anthony in 2011. Enough to make the trade pretty even at the time, based on how well each team played after the trade. The last domino to fall on that deal was NY's 2016 pick, which I think was Jamal Murray.

I can't decide who I'd rather see lose the WCF. I so dislike Harden because of the flops and the foul calls he gets. But I also hate "super teams", and would love to see GS go down.

I don't hate the GSW and like the way they play but totally dislike the Houston Rockets. Imagine the
dislike for the Rockets if Lebron ends in Houston...

I keep seeing people say Lebron to Houston....

James Harden $30,421,854
Chris Paul $35,350,000 (cap-hold)
Ryan Anderson $20,421,546
Eric Gordon $13,500,375
P.J. Tucker $7,969,537
Nene $3,651,480
Clint Capela $7,003,585
Troy Williams (stretched) $122,741
Chinanu Onuaku $1,544,951
Roster Charges (five) $4,100,000

that's 124M and the salary cap will be around 101M. AS is the Rockets will start out over the tax threshold counting cap-holds (and that's after letting Trevor Ariza, Tariq Black, and Gerald Green walk in free agency

even if Houston renounced both Paul & Capela they'd only have about 16M in cap-space and sice Lebron is scheduled to make 36M next season you have to expect he'd want at least 30M

the only chance is a S&T and if the Cavs are going for something like that it's just about guaranteed that other teams can beat what the Rockets can offer

Easy call IMO. They way Harden plays the refs is a disgrace to the game.

Yeah, I guess given the choice between a fourth year of Cavs vs Warriors and seeing Harden and CP3 possibly flop their way to ring, I'll take the repetitiveness.

if someone would have told me a year ago that the Warriors would beat the Cavs in the finals, I would have said that is a logical conlusion given the league's talent distribution.

logged in from my laptop and realgm had a "remember me" checkbox. kind of some heavy ish. nobody wants to be forgotten. but is it really that much better to be remembered for wanting to trade meyers leonard and questioning evan turner's fashion choices?

also noticed:

https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/249997/Dan-Gilbert-Staying-In-The-Present-As-Cavs-Advance-To-Finals

good for you, staying in the moment. personally, I use my way-back machine to live life in my 20s because it was way more fun.

and that is kind of where society went wrong. kids under [x] years get in free. but parent that does not want to be there in the first place - pony up.

you probably won't get that now, or you're my wife.

Why wasn't twitter a thing during the JailBlazers era? Sure, Bonzi would have just been tweeting poo emojis at fans, but Rasheed? Or Sabonis' wife?

Woj and Bobby Marks were talking about the S&T and how executives around the league have discussed it as a way that teams are going to be a lot more aggressive in pursuing that vs just straight up FA this summer. Specifically they sited the Chris Paul to Houston deal as an example of how that is going to be a new model for players going to the teams they want to goto regardless if the team in question has cap space.

Using that same CP3 trade as an example, if the rest of the league knew Paul was on the market, there would have been numerous teams willing to put up MUCH better offers than the one the Clippers accepted from Houston. The idea that "it's just about guaranteed other teams can beat what X-Team can offer" simply isn't an end all be all excuse for why a player may end up somewhere that we logically don't think they should.
