To make things worst, Chris Paul had a great last season. His price is up. He has already played more times on this shortened season (62) than he had played past 3 seasons (58 to 61). Everybody knows you must not buy a product with a unstable price when the price is up unless you are desperate.
yeah, but i also understand that he could set the team on a good course over those 2 seasons.
i'm not considering chris paul for Ws and Ls in the short term. i'm considering him for setting the on-court product right, regardless of his total number of games played. he adds value from the bench.
not saying it's the right idea, but i get it. this isn't just any vet. you look at what he did with that OKC group people counted out and think he could be great for your kids the same way.
i wouldn't want to part with significant assets to acquire him. but i'd consider it if OKC were looking for cap relief. like you say, we're not contending just yet. CP3 is an ultimate rebuild vet.

We dont know if he would make the same positive impact in a really bad team that cant compete for victories. OKC has a good group of players like Adams, Shai, Galo and Shroeder.
Besides, I doubt if his price would be low. I think that will cost us a FRP for sure. OKC doesnt need cap space (small market team in beginning of a rebuilding process in a bad FA market window).

Of players that played 40+ game in 2019-20, he is one of 26 players to average 2 or more 3-pointer made per game on 35% 3-point percentage or better with a +/- above 1 in a really bad year for him (https://stats.nba.com/players/traditional/?sort=PTS&dir=-1&CF=FG3M*GE*2:FG3_PCT*GE*35:PLUS_MINUS*GE*1:GP*GE*40). He is a pro's pro in terms of work ethic and what he brings to the locker room as a leader and mentor to the young point guard we'll probably draft and would probably come relatively cheap (Knox and Randle?).

Utah
Conley (1 year - 34,5M)
24 pick (draft 2020).
Knicks
Randle (2 years - 18,9M)
Frank (1 years - 6,1M)
Bullock (1 year - 4,2M) or Portis (1 year 15,8M)
38 pick (draft 2020)

Yes that's a no brainer for the Knicks but don't think Jazz are interested. They made a priority last summer of giving Mitchell spacing and playing more modern style of ball after they got exposed by Houston back to back years for lack of shooting. Don't think they have interest in bringing in Randle and having him clog the paint with Gobert. Don't think Utah does it

A more realistic fair trade would be:
Utah
Conley (1 year - 34,5M)
24 pick (draft 2020).
Knicks
Portis (1 years - 15 M)
Bullock (1 year - 4,2M)
38 pick (draft 2020)
We get the pick because we're absorbing salary and Portis is a piece that can help them out. They could keep or waive both

They would have to have a free agent target in mind and be confident about landing that FA otherwise it might just be a lateral move. They might prefer Conley for his experience and he was getting back into form towards the end of the season but I would definitely propose that deal to them and see what they say. It's better than the Randle deal for them so they might consider

Let's be real: The Knicks have nothing to offer contenders anymore. Conley has always been a very good point guard. Now he's still a good one. Why should they make that trade?
HarthorneWingo wrote:I posted this in the CP3 thread but it really belongs here. What about signing (or sign and trade?) Wood and Ingram to the starting front court to go along with Mitch? Ingram may have to be a sign and trade but we have the picks. They can have Randle back if they like, or not. If not, then Julius can come off the bench for a season. If he demands a trade, great!
I'm not really interested in CP3 unless it means getting rid of Randle and getting first round pick(s) back. In no way do we give up picks for that contract dump.

At this point who knows, he's had a bad year after injuries (13ppg) but he's still looking to cash in as an all star. So far it doesn't look like Indiana wants to pony up.
