Glad he's a good lockerroom guy at least.

Also definitely seems like this didn't help the Wizards fix things with Beal.

Had Smith still been with the team, he likely would’ve remained in his warm-ups and only acted as a beacon of sunshine from the sideline through Washington’s low-effort 116-101 loss. But Smith’s presence was missed where he had made his biggest impact — the locker room.

“It’s been a crazy 24 hours for us but we’re making due with it,” Bradley Beal said late Saturday night, bringing up Smith on his own. “A lot of us are a little iffy about it. We love Jason. Jason is a huge part of our team but you know, this is a business world that we live in and organization that we’re in ... things happen. Players come and go and now we have Sam. We can’t heckle on it, because it happened but we definitely didn’t come out with the right focus tonight.”

Players understand the business component and accept the fact that their friends can be reduced to transactions. Even so, the Smith deal hit the Wizards hard.

In a straw poll conducted within the locker room Saturday night, Wizards' players expressed myriad emotions about losing Smith, with reactions ranging disappointment to feeling “pissed off,” as one player acknowledged. The word “tough” came up often as teammates described Smith as a morale booster, a brother and all-around good guy.

Maybe Beal will go off the rails and demand a trade to Milwaukee. Lol.

Beal sounds very sad that Smith is now on the Bucks. Somebody should tell him that with the next trade he will also play for the Bucks

Was busy most of the weekend but yea pretty happy with this trade. I've been worried the whole time we'd have to use 1sts to clear one of these contracts but that we were able to clear two of the contracts plus get back two useful players to finish this season (over two that wouldn't) has me definitely thinking this is a good move. Now, how they handle the extra space and subsequent moves is a whole other question but this move to set it up seems like a home run.

Are there any restrictions on how Hill can now be traded or is he fair game for everyone? Such as, using his contract in the Beal scenario. I know a move like that is now supremely difficult due to having two first round picks tied up with stipulations the next several years. But just in general on his tradeability from here?

I guess our best Beal offer now is at the deadline for Hill, Brogdon, DDV, Maker and their two 2nds back. Midds and Bledsoe make no sense for them, since they'll walk away.

On the trade machine it says Hill can't be traded along with another player?

My initial reaction to the trade was a big fat B, because of the 2 picks. A first and a second? Then I saw the protections on the 1st and wanted to take my vote back and do it an A. I was quite disappointed I couldn't. Although afterwards I thought about Rodzilla and what we will really miss.

I'm happy for Delly. Hopefully he finds some PT in Cleveland. I kind of want him to come in Europe in 2-3 years.

Yep, not until February 7th. Oh that's the trade deadline date too? Weird.

In the game coverage they said the trade happened to set up the field in order to keep the team together. So, don't get your hopes up for a follow-up move...

Sure, however no team is really ever gonna say they plan on trading people. If a situation arises though...

Can someone confirm what we actually got from Washington?

If you look at the RealGM future drafts site it shows us getting the Wizards second round picks in 2020 and 2021

https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

I knew we got a protected pick for Meeks and the protections were lifted on the Dekker deal. But where did we come up with the additional 2nd rounder or did we get both items (2nd rounder and protections lifted on Meeks 2nd rounder)?

Yep, that's what I heard. 2nd rounder AND protections lifted.

Hard to believe that this deal really happened. I like it.

Bucks get: Hill, Smith, cash from Wizards (not sure how much), Wiz 2021 2nd (from Cavs), protections on 2020 removed (from Wiz)

Wiz get: Dekker

Cavs get: Henson, Delly, protected FRP (from Bucks), 2021 SRP (from Bucks), 2022 SRP (from Wizards)

I feel like the roughest trade for a fan has to be the one where you trade away multiple picks and cash to defray tax costs for a team that is unexpectedly bad.

So Grunfeld gave up TWO second round picks (one to us, one to CLE) and protections lifted on a third pick that we already owned from the Meeks deal?

I just don't think people have reported enough on how bad the Wiz got screwed here to bring down their tax bill by $6mm. Because I also believe the Wiz sent the Bucks cash ($1mm??) to offset the Smith/Dekker salaries.

ETA: This Wiz poster has a breakdown from their end. He's saying Cleveland sent us the Wiz 2021 2nd rounder which they owned.

viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1776248&start=20#p70881503

That doesn't make sense that we'd send a 2nd but then CLE also sends us a 2nd back.

No, we got one of the Wiz picks from Cleveland, who already had it... Washington traded it to the Jazz for Trey Burke 2 years ago, and the Jazz traded it to Cleveland in the Burks/Korver trade.

So if you look at the ledger with Cleveland, we basically sent them a highly protected first and then swapped 2nd round picks, with us sending our own future 2nd but getting back a Wiz future 2nd they owned.

I just never saw that part about Cleveland paying us more. Have to admit Horst did really well here on the draft pick ledger.
